He had a 3 hour surgery yesterday afternoon. The muscle that closes the little hole in the baby's heart after they are born sometimes grows up higher around they aorta - they said they see at least 1 case a month like this. That was also the case in my little nephew, so as the muscle was doing what it was supposed to, clamping down, the problem is because it wasn't in the right spot it was clamping down on his aorta. By the time they did surgery the Dr. said it was a wonder that he was still alive because there was only a pinhole for blood to go through anymore
He's doing okay though he'll need to be in the hospital for at least 1 week to 10 days. He forsure needs to regain the weight he lost and be over birth weight again and be nursing well before they'll let him go home. A huge bummer for my sister though because the childrens hospital is almost 2 hours from home and she also have a little girl who is just a few months over a year.
Oh wow, but they found it in the nick of time and he will be ok! THAT is a miracle! I forget where you live, do you live closer to the hospital so that she could come stay with you for a bit? I can't imagine being so far from a newborn at a time like that.
My sister lives in British Columbia so a little far away from me. That being said she and her H are staying in the Ronald McDonald House by the hospital.
i'm so glad she has somewhere to stay nearby. i will be dropping a couple bucks the donation box next time i go to mcd's..haven't been often lately, but i will next time i see one, for your sister. many nextie hugz to her.
