We stopped in Manhattan on the way home. In a change from the trash they usually try to pass off as pizza in NYC, there's a place called Prince Street Pizza that basically makes it Buffalo style. Extra cheese, thicker crust, cup pepperoni. It’s famous on insta. Not QUITE as good as my B-Lo favorites, but definitely the best option I’ve had within 2ish hours of my house.

That pizza looks so good!! I'm supposed to be working on something today that I have been unable to complete during the regular work week for ages, but I'm taking a 2 week course of doxycycline to clear up an infection and it's WRECKED ME. Sob. I projectile vomited all over the kitchen this morning and then took a long nap... and I'm only just now starting the stupid thing and it is either not going to be done by tomorrow morning or is not going to be very good... hoping for the latter.
It was a rough weekend over here my Dad has dementia and he was not great this weekend he’s been very agitated lately. Today I went to a Bernie rally which was interesting.

puglife, you're new to the board (welcome!) but we don't put kid-related stuff in the randoms, even if it's not about your kid. Just FYI. There's a pinned post about it at the top of the board.

I am so sorry! I removed it and reread the pinned post.

That pizza looks fabulous!!!
An old friend spent the day yesterday and it was so good to see him! He arrived around lunchtime and didn’t end up leaving until after 10. It was like old times and was so very nice! It’s been forever since I’ve had that type of casual, random hangout and I didn’t realize how badly I needed it!

Bad pizza in NYC? Unless you're talking about Sbarro's and Domino's and shit like that, I object to your insult! Also, if you've only ever had NYC pizza in Manhattan, you're really missing out. You gotta go to the outer boroughs for the best, notably Staten Island and Brooklyn.
I bought a cute fall jacket at Zara the other day. I generally wear a size 14 in most brands, sometimes a 12 or a 16 if the brand runs bigger or smaller. This is generally either a L or XL. I haven't been to Zara in a while so I found the jacket and took out the Large to see if that fit. I was swimming in it. I ended up needing a SMALL. Vanity sizing is out of control and I hate it. I am not a small person wtf.
I think I said this last week, but I'm goin' to say it again - I got rid of my most hated job at work, and it's like I have a whole new job that I'm excited about.

- I started my day yesterday taking DH to the ER because he had vertigo and nausea. They did some evaluations to make sure it wasn't a stroke, then gave him valium and zofran. They wanted him to stay home today, but he had a lot going on a work and would have to use his very limited PTO.
He seems to be feeling better - just tired and a bit "off."
- I bought new everyday work shoes and I love them. My old pair was pretty close to falling apart, but I hadn't seen anything like what I wanted. These aren't anything special, but they are exactly what I was looking for and super comfortable.
I'm waiting for my therapy appointment. I don't feel like talking today, at all. This should be interesting.
Also, it's a basement full of mini offices so each room has a white noise machine outside of it. Sitting in the waiting area is like being inside a dryer or a shell or something. I hate it.

I went to Emily in Clinton Hill a few months ago. I know that's "fancy" too, but it was fine. They also use cup pepperoni. I don't like thin crust, so everywhere that advertises they do "ny style" pizza is usually a hard pass from me, but perhaps you can give me suggestions next time I'm in town!

The best around here is indeed thin-crust but I will accept the challenge to convert you if you want to make your way to SI one day. It's the closest borough to you and happens to have the best pizza, IMO. I say that as someone who's lived in all five boroughs and isn't an SI native.
I want to help out a couple neighbors who are having a hard time financially but I don't want to be tacky or insensitive.
There are these two brothers in my neighborhood who I see maybe twice a month or so at the dog park. They are about 40 years old and have had a series of really bad luck and are living in poverty. They are pretty open about their situation, and one told me he's been going to the food bank because his disability check isn't enough to pay rent and buy groceries.
We need to clean out our cabinets before we move and we'll have a bit of food to take to the food bank. Beans, unopened jars of condiments, other odds and ends. Would it be weird if I offered it to them? Like a "hey, we are getting rid of some stuff in anticipation of our move, and I'm going to be dropping off a couple bags of food to the food bank this week. If you guys can use it, I'm happy to bring them by your place instead."
I don't want to offend them but I would like to help them out if I can. If they accepted, I'd buy some other items and stick them in the bags. Thoughts?

If I may be honest....
As nice as the sentiment is, I'd be extra embarrassed to get a handout from someone I knew. When I was using a food bank on the regular, I would visit ones way outside of my neighborhood to avoid seeing anyone I knew. I know poverty is nothing to be ashamed of, but those feelings are still there.

Just my opinion, others may feel differently!
ps... it's very kind of you to consider this.
I actually think this probably depends on how it is presented. Maybe don't mention the food bank? But if you see them, just say "I have some stuff I need to get rid of before we move. Would you like it?"
I gave away a bunch of food when I moved last year. Some went to the food bank but some of it was open (like a half finished pack of frozen fish or box of pasta, not half eaten food) so I gave it to friends. I would assume this is common and as long as you aren't presenting it like charity, I don't think it would be taken as such. They are helping you out by taking it off your hands, too!
ESF If it were me I’d work it into a conversation with them that you’re moving and need to downsize your pantry and you’re looking to give away/donate food, and see what they say.
I’ve got to take my cat to the vet later today. He’s always a total beast at the vet so I’m not looking forward to this. Plus parking is really tough since the office is on a busy city street and crossing the street with him in a carrier stresses me out.
For those of you who’ve had cats, have you ever seen “reverse sneezing”? We Googled the cat’s symptoms and this seems very close. But he also had surgery for ear polyps a few years ago so I’m thinking they may have grown back.
I’m hoping it’s not something very serious. He’s 11 years old. He seems fine otherwise but I’m hoping I won’t be faced with any tough decisions :/

ESF, since they've been open about using the food bank I'd just bring up in conversation that given your move, you have stuff you're looking to give away to people you know locally and see if they mention anything. I totally hear BlondeSpiders on her thoughts and thought about the embarrassment as well though, but I'm leaning towards the side of offering stuff to them just to unload them from your home since they haven't been keeping their food insecurity a secret.

I agree. They’re not being secretive about their situation. There are limitations to what food banks usually provide so some extra or something different would be appreciated, I bet. You can’t use it but he can. There should be no shame in sharing things you can’t use. I’ve been food insecure as a kid and an adult. We went to food banks when I was a kid. I hated going. Being given things was so much better, imo.
You’ll probably need to off load other things too which they might find useful, like cleaning supplies, paper goods, etc. Maybe even household things? When things are really tight, used items in good condition from someone who you know can be a treat.

Re NY pizza, I think there is great pizza by the slice at Pizza Supreme on the corner of 8th ave and it’s either 30 or 31. It’s across the street from Penn station on the southwest corner of 8th ave.
I also had this delicious pizza - Roberta’s - in this food hall on Lexington in the old GE building. I believe Roberta’s may be from an outer borough - I had this pie with hot honey and it was amazing.
The cat was such a nasty asshole at the vet that they couldn’t examine him properly and so they have no idea what may be wrong with him. They gave me a prescription to mellow him out for another visit, which I still have to schedule.
