I have an open floor plan home. On our main level we have 5 of the same ‘builder basic’ (boob) lights which I would like to change. I am also changing the one above the dining table.
Would you change all of the lights to the same or would you do different fixtures based on where they’re located?
Here is a photos showing 4/5 of the boob lights. They are from the listing photo- this is not our furniture...
Also- here are the lights I was looking at for the flush mounts, and the chandelier for the dining room.
Any advice would be appreciated! (Cross-posted on ML)

Im confused by this question... do you mean use the same light over the table as you do over the island?

It's a little hard to tell from the photo, but if there are two directly next to each other, like the two on the ceiling in front of the island, I would do the same ones. If they are in a separate space, though, I would do a different fixture. I just bought this and it is nice, and relatively unobtrusive without falling into the "boob light" category.

No, I mean use the 5x flush mount light that I posted I place of the boob lights (you can see 4 of the 5 current boob lights in the room photo I posted)
I plan to use the chandelier I posted in the dining room. I am not going to change the island lights.
So my question is, do you think 5 of the same flush mount lights like I posted would be too busy or too matchy for one big open space.

My house is one big rectangle which is why I’m wondering. There are two in front of the island, one in the living room, one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom of the stairs. But they are basically all the same big room due to my open layout.

So honestly, I think some of them look misplaced? Like they should be can lights? The ones by the island would compete with your pendant island lights, and I can’t tell if the one in the dining area is over a designated space.

Yes the ones in front of the island really should be can lights but they aren’t.
The flush mount in my dining area is at the landing at the bottom of the stairs - it is used when coming down from upstairs.
(When I mention the chandelier- I’m referring to the light above the dining table, not the one at the stairs).

Ok. Here is a floor plan. All the green circles are the current flush mount boob lights. You can see the 5 are in the great room /dining area which is all open to each other.
The small purple dots in the kitchen are can lights. The big purple dot in the dining room is the chandelier. I don’t have the island lights marked but it’s obvious where they are.
Here's what I would probably do. I would make the 2 lights beside the island as subtle as possible and keep those 2 the same. I would either change them to can lights or pick a very plain flush mount light that matches the finish of your pendant lights over the island.
For the great room, I don't think you need to have the same lights but I would make sure they compliment each other. How tall are your ceilings? I think I would try to do more of a statement piece in the front of the great room but I'm not sure how low it could hang without blocking the TV (if that's where you're putting your TV). Could you do a semi-flush mount/larger fixture closer to the shelves and then do the same fixture in a smaller / flush mount in the back of the room? For example, these 2 fixtures are from the same line but are different:
I think you could go with a completely different fixture at the bottom of your stairs as long as it compliments the other fixtures, especially your chandelier.

Thank you. We will put a larger fixture near the shelves (no TV, just art). And smaller, more bland fixtures (or just keep the boob lights) elsewhere. We replaced the dining room chandelier today and I think it looks awesome!
