I'm DIYing a Snoopy costume for DS (who's turning 8 in November). All-white union suit, and Snoopy Ears and Tail from Hanna Andersson. I was talking to H about needing to go to the craft store this weekend to get some red felt to make the collar and he asked why not just get a regular dog collar.
I'm not handy with crafts, so this would be SO much easier, but is it safe? Obviously, I wouldn't make it tight, and he won't be left alone unsupervised with it on.
If you can find a breakaway style like safety lanyards I think it’d be fine- I’d definitely stay away from the belt style, you want it to come off quickly if it needs to.
Honestly the biggest risk to kids on Halloween are cars not seeing them. The biggest costume risk (besides not being able to see properly if wearing a mask etc) is probably capes because lots of people have lit pumpkins on their porch and fire + fabric is an opportunity for disaster, so if anything I’d make sure the tail isn’t super long.
Either would be fine for an 8-year-old, but unless you have a red dog collar, I agree that a felt one would be cheaper and easy! That sounds like a super cute costume!
