DH and I are both home because we both took today off since daycare is closed. We probably should have talked before we both took the day off. We decided we needed a 3 day weekend. I'm going to take the kid to work later, since people want to see how big he's getting.

We had an awful morning today. DD insisted she was too sick to go to school because of a stuffy nose. She has a tiny cold, but nothing worth staying home for. We have this argument nearly every day so I don't have much patience for it even when she actually isn't feeling well.
I'll keep her home if she's actually sick. Being tired with a slight cold doesn't cut it, especially when she has Thursday and Friday off.
I hate fighting that hard in the morning. We were both so angry and sad and upset.

Any MOOKs dealing with the Fortnite outage? lollllll Fornite did an event yesterday and ended it by displaying a black hole on the game and essentially disabling it. My kid has been fine about it, a little grumbling just because he is used to playing while he talks on the phone with his friends but its a very strange way of going about whatever they are doing.
I made a pumpkin stuffed with everything good for dinner last night and neither of my asshole children would eat it. IT IS BREAD, CHEESE, AND BACON WTF.
I also made pumpkin chocolate chip oatmeal muffins to eat for breakfast all week, and DS1 refused to have one this morning. FINE, MORE FOR ME, ENJOY YOUR GO-GURT.
My daughter tried out for her elementary school musical and got the lead. Yay for her, but listening to Aladdin music for what seems like all day every day is getting a little old. Lol! I now know more than I would ever want to know about the play. I am glad for her that she is super excited for the part she got and that she’s actively memorizing her lines, songs, and dance moves (she just turned 9 and it’s difficult to get her to even clean up after herself so I’m pleasantly surprised), but there’s just so much of Aladdin I can take.

A mom posted in our local mom fb group that she thought schools were closed today. Her kids reassured her so she made flu shot appointments. School are NOT closed. She only found out because she got the autocall that her kids weren't at school.
I don't understand how that happens. There are constantly posts like that - moms shocked that school is closed the next day (not to the point were kids were actually absent). I'm so jealous of parents who don't have to plan weeks in advance for days that school is closed.

I don’t get how people don’t put this stuff on their calendars! Or read emails and newsletters that always list upcoming days off
Yesterday, in the back of the car after what was an exhausting trip to the mall to exchange clothes for my kids who have grown out of EVERYTHING, my kids were fighting (like usual, because cars make them feral). My going-to-be-6-on-Wednesday son told my nearly 10 year old daughter "stop antagonizing me by making faces in my direction."
On the one hand, that shows that my kids ARE listening to me and my husband when we discipline them. On the other hand, that shows that my kids are only listening to what we say to the other kid.

Listen, you don't know me. Last year we whiffed on a school day off (not a day on). My husband's office, my office, school, and daycare (thank goodness my son is now in school) all had different holiday schedules. I realized it at like 9 the night before. So, my girl came to work with me for half a day and with my husband for the other half. Whoops.

I once sent my kid to school in "beach day" attire, only to get to school and realize it was actually the next day. I get it.
But my favorite part was that she just asked her kids and didn't check the calendar. I wonder if they thought they were going to get away with it.

DS is in both soccer and fall baseball right now. Both seasons will end in about a month. I'm trying to get him to choose another activity. I've proposed ice skating, basketball, and karate, but he says he doesn't want to do anything.
If it were summer, and we could go out to the park or playground most weekends, I'd be fine with that. He has SO MUCH energy, he needs an activity to get it out. Not to mention, I think that he thinks that is he doesn't sign up for an activity, he can stay home and play Minecraft all day every weekend. No sir, not happening.

DD wants to start ice skating lessons. I can't really complain since I was also 5 when I started skating, but I kind of hoped we'd have more time before she wanted to pick that one up.

It's so easy TBH. I do that sort of stuff too. I read the emails with little attention to detail b/c they aren't that interesting and probably bc I don't care enough.
Mine did, but he shaved it off last week. I may have cried (he's 12). I think he was self conscious.
Mine is 13 and I won't bring it up anymore, but it was palpably present this weekend. Unavoidable. I felt like I couldn't stop staring (poor kid).
Mine has a blond/light one that doesn't need to be shaved yet - 13, but all of his friends have shaved or currently shave. It's such an awkward age, huh?

I did the same thing last year. I confused "Elementary holiday/Secondary staff development day" with "Secondary staff development day". We sent DS1 to SIL's house last minute and she parked him in front of the TV so she could WFH.
Also, just to note, why do moms always get the blame for this? Can't dads read a school calendar? #rhetorical

My random is that I had a kid-free weekend and ended up watching my two nephews for my sister. I know I shouldn't complain, but those kids are so obsessed with video games and youtube it's f*$king annoying. I mean that is all they want to do on a weekend and they act out when I said to turn them off. I don't know why, but my kids are so not into electronics like that... not allowed a gaming system or fortnite on the computer... mostly play minecraft and watch youtube and then I make them get off at 1 hour per day max. I don't envy those of you who have kids obsessed with gaming. It's boring and hard to parent those kids (maybe not all kids, but my nephews for sure and my sister usually has to fight them after 1-2 hours on the weekend - she's pretty serious about that).
Also what do you get a 7 year old who already has scooters, bikes (multiple), a ninja line, and all sorts of toys for his birthday? I am striking out trying to get my kid a present for this week. Ugh.
We potty trained our 2 year old this weekend. He had zero accidents all weekend and has an amazing ability to stop himself if he starts to pee even a little bit until he can get to a toilet.
He didn't pee all morning at daycare, but finally went just after 1pm. I was so sure I was going to see a notification about an accident, but nope. He went in the toilet.
I think we're officially done with diapers except overnight! Wheeee!

Book, board game, movie tickets (so he can go with you and get popcorn/candy), some other experience he would enjoy? A new item of clothing that he needs, like a nice jacket?
Semi-related, I'm kind of on a toy-strike for gifts for my kids because they have more than they can possibly play with (desperately need to purge). DS1 is getting a toy for Christmas from Santa because he's been talking about it for months now, but his gift from us is a new bike (he's gotten the hang of the strider and ready to move up) and stocking stuffers are a new coloring book, bath toys (the one thing they don't a lot of that is age appropriate), and bath bombs. And they're getting a joint gift of a new board game.

It was posted by the mom on a mom's board...
Although, I am the one who prints out the school calendar, adds the days off to our family calendar, and highlights the days on a calendar on my bulletin board at work. That's mostly because I have more PTO so I take most of those days off.
My granddaughter joined NJROTC (Navy ROTC in the high schools), spent the weekend at the high school (overnights from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon) and was promoted and pinned this weekend. My hope is ROTC will give her the discipline I haven't been able to.
And downtoearth I totally get you on the video addiction. Mine will ask for my phone in the car, even if it's just a few minute ride, or she'll drag hers with her and not put it away even when I tell her to (or she'll put it away then take it out again. I have had her phone in my possession more than it's been in hers.)
My 7 year old DD was singing “old town road” and told me she wanted to sing an alternate version with inappropriate words. I asked how it was inappropriate. She told me because it has the P word in it.

Poop. The p word was poop.
When My DS was younger, he was convinced that 'shut up' was a bad word and was very disturbed by "Shut up and Dance with me." How times have changed.

Um, I may or may not have tried to bring my DS to school during spring break because I thought they came back to school on Monday and not Tuesday

Haaaa. I used to tell my little sister to shut up all the time. She would tattle on me by yelling "mooooom, she said the SH word." lol

Oh man, I love that stuffed pumpkin recipe. I make it in acorn squash halves since I'm the only one who will eat it. Plus you bake it cut side down so the filling gets a delicious browned, crunchy layer on it.
DH has been OOT for 5 weeks, and I'm getting really tired of just cooking for kids, even relatively non-picky kids. I want an adult around who will actually appreciate it when I put some extra effort into meals (and then do the dishes).
