I’m on a plane. I left my pretty S’Well water bottle in the airport bathroom (most likely). Whomp, whomp. I’m also going somewhere cold and forget the inside liner for my jacket. So. Great start!
Halloween camping this weekend so that should be fun! Also glad it's not going to be freezing - last year it was really cold and rainy. This will be our last trip for the year before winterizing the camper, always makes me a little sad. H just texted me & my kid found one of her friends at the campground which is awesome because we know she'll have someone to play with.
It's been so quiet in my office today and more than 1/2 of the staff are out, makes it tough to stay motivated! One more hour...
Something embarrassing/my fault happened today. My daughter is in Kindergarten, and every Friday parents go in to help them draw/write in their journals. Today was the first time, and the kids had already colored the covers and backs. They were all bright white, new and shiny and white, and knocked my coffee over a little bit. It left a quarter size stain on my daughter's friends journal. I feel so terrible. I should not have brought the coffee, I don't know what I was thinking (well I do know, dealing with a teething toddler that doesn't sleep - but still).
We're going to see this friend tomorrow. Do you think I should buy another journal (obviously won't replace the school one) and write a note about how I hope she was a great year writing?
Gah it was an accident, but I'm still thinking about it and cringing 8 hours later.
I spent a lot of the morning and early afternoon removing the insulation that my dad put around the firebox when we did the stone surround. I pulled off the exterior siding, cut into the plywood, and pulled it out. Then I had to spend a bunch of time cutting a new piece of plywood to fit, caulking the spaces, and put the siding back. It wasn't fun, but I'm so glad I did it and can stop stressing out about that insulation catching fire and burning my house down. lol
I also went to Michael's and Home Depot to get stuff for the boys' costumes. DS1 is going as an ice cream truck and DS2 (whose name is Sam) is going as an ice cream Sam-wich. It's still early enough in the day that I may start trying to get the structure of the truck put together so that I can focus more on the decor stuff tomorrow. It's going to have a melting ice cream cone on the roof, a menu board, and functioning headlights.
DH is out of town, so we're on our own for the weekend. A new Crumbl cookie store just opened right behind the boys' school and they are giving away free cookies today. I'm going to take them for cookies when I pick them up, then to the library to play for a bit.
A sale sign post (but not the for sale sign) went up at my loud neighbors house. I'm one part excited that they are leaving, and one part worried that we might end up with people who are even louder. They still seem to be working on fixing up the house though, so it could still be a little while before they are 100% gone.
I'm trying to meal plan for the weekend and I'm feeling 100% uninspired. My H wants soup, but we've already had soup twice this week so that's just not happening, and he also suggested lasagna, but I've got a mild cold and my energy levels are just not there to be making lasagna.
Today is our last full day on vacation so we’re beachin it. This has been such a great vaca, minus getting sick. Once we get back we’re getting our puppy and I have a girls weekend and then it’s Halloween and then the holidays... where did this year go?
I've been home with two sick kids yesterday and today. They did sleep a lot yesterday and I managed to do 5 loads of laundry and and bunch of cleaning. Today is less productive but I did get a couple hours of work done during the baby's nap. DH is out of town until Tuesday. I hope they both go to sleep early tonight.
I am so tired. We left last Thursday night. Spent the night in Orlando. Cruise Fri-Mon. Cocoa Beach Mon-Wed. Took DH to airport Wed night on the way to Legoland. Been here since. Flight home at 9:30.
I've been invited back for more case interviewing practice with the consultants from the big firm I'd love to intern at. This is all so stressful, lol. Exciting and flattering, but stressful.
We also had tryouts at school today for a consulting immersion program next semester. I'm really not a fan of one of the guys running it (he made a racist joke during orientation) so I'm really take it or leave it as far as being involved. But no one likes rejection, lol. 24 of us tried out for 13 spots so not bad odds. But everyone is awesome. They said we'll find out tonight so at least I won't have to think about it all weekend.
Next week is going to be insanely busy. I mean, most of my weeks are now, but I have a lot of evening stuff happening next week now too. Group meetings, mentor happy hour for school, Rachel Bloom concert, now this interview practice. Yikes. I did get four As and one B on my midterms so that's cool.

So so happy it's the weekend! We're supposed to have beautiful fall weather, and I actually feel OK this weekend.
We plan on doing a couple hikes, going to look at getting new phones (we both have iPhone 6's and my battery is pretty much shot and DH needs a new phone for his job to meet their security standards). I think I might do the 11 Pro.
We also have a drag/burlesque show/costume party tomorrow night. I'm going as Cruella again and DH is the dog catcher. It should be fun.

I just finished ordering a fresh turkey from a local farm for Thanksgiving and it made me very happy.
I have been wanting to try something like this for awhile, rather than the store-bought frozen turkey, and even though it's ridiculously expensive for a fairly small bird (like more than $5 a pound!), I talked it over with DH last night and pulled the trigger, so to speak, today. Living out in the sort-of boonies of northern Virginia means that I actually had several options (and have even seen wild turkeys roaming around in addition to the farm-raised ones!). This is from one of several farms I follow on FB, and I'll pick it up from them -- processed, of course, I'm not going to have to wring its neck and pluck it myself -- the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
This is probably going to sound absurd, but I consider this a bucket list item. Bucket turkey, lol.
I have a god awful busy weekend. Work tomorrow morning, then to a horse rescue to pick up blankets for my friend who adopted from them. Then to drive to my friend who lives and hr + away. Then home, and then up Sunday morning early to go another hr+ to watch my friend show her gelding at the show we couldnt make this weekend.

When I onboarded to the new job they asked what percent (up to 3) i wanted go put toward optional retirement. Thrown off guard I picked a number. Now that I've been paid I'm about 85 off of what I was doing at the last job. Payroll has go wait for the company to authorize if, then they'll "get to it"...but probably in a couple of pay periods. Awesome.
I also figured out I'm double paying unions. Had to pay for 3 months at my last job, now back date time I wasn't there for rhis one since its different. Its a bigger deal as its a lot of money.
I should be reading as I'm behind goal, but DH is finally working and its pin drop quiet so I'm playing on my phone lol.

lauren170 all journals look beautiful now. They will all look stained and tattered by the end of the year. If you apologized in the moment you are good.
Last night of vacation and there is a tropical storm here so it’s been raining all day . We went out to lunch and to see the Adams Family. More rain tomorrow and our flight isn’t until 6pm so I’m trying to figure out what we are going to do all day.

I've always wanted to do this too and have never pulled the trigger because of the price. Maybe I'll do it this year. We're not hosting anyone or traveling so it will just be our family.

That's one of the reasons I did it, too. My parents were planning to come down for Thanksgiving, but they can't now, so it's just going to be the four of us. So I can splurge a little even if it's with a smaller turkey, and the farm-raised ones are definitely smaller than the commercial turkeys. Like somewhere between 10-15 pounds. I think that is going to be fine, but if we pick it up and think we need a bit more, we'll get an extra breast/wings cut from the store.
litebright, that would be plenty for us since our kids are little. I’m going to look into it. I know there are some farms south of us that do this.
So, a story about my early morning. It’s 5:40am. Fire alarm goes off. I bolt out of bed and run downstairs. No smoke, no smell. I go through the whole house and don’t find anything concerning. I go back to bed. Alarm sounds again. This time I’m fast enough to see which one it is (despite DS1 screaming bloody murder while running after me). I pull down the alarm and take it into the garage to look at it. While I am doing so, a spider crawls out of the alarm. Upon googling, yes, it apparently is possible for spiders to set off smoke alarms. Cool, guys. So cool.
DS1’s friend who switched schools is coming over in a bit and he doesn’t know it. He was asking yesterday about her coming over and I was able to arrange it with her mom last night. I decided not to tell him. He is going to be so freaking excited.

Someone here (I think) mentioned you can spray things with cheap vodka or rubbing alcohol to get rid of residual cat pee smells. THANK YOU. My couch has been scrubbed and Nature's Miracled and power washed with a hose and there was a lingering whiff to it. It is now gone. Fantastic!!!

I didn't know about this! I will keep it in mind the next time my cat goes off script. We do love the Nature's Miracle products, but it's always good to have a backup plan.
