I need a recommendation for a detangler. I’ve tried probably 5 different ones over the years. Honest co., Suave, Little Twig, a salon one, and others. She has very straight hair and lots of tangles so I practically have to douse it, so that kind of leaves out expensive kinds, the salon one was gone in a week (travel size) and greasy. Suave is cheaper and OK but not great. Honest co was just OK and pricier. I think my sister uses Infusium..
Detangler doesn’t work for us. Instead we upped our conditioner game. She now uses shampoo plus conditioner and then a separate conditioner and leaves it on for 3 minutes before rinsing.
ETA and we use a wet brush, then spritz it with water in the morning and brush with the wet brush.
My daughter has super thick tangly hair and we don’t use detangler, but found a particular wet brush that works great. It’s the only one she’ll tolerate. It has both soft and hard bristles and is called the ‘shine’ wet brush. We use it in the bath with a lot of Little Twig conditioner. It’s this one:
How often are your DDs washing their hair? I feel like the conditioner route works best in DD1s hair to remove tangles and she’s only washing every 2-3 days. She has very fine hair but a lot of it and it’s tangled again as soon as we are done brushing. The brush sdlaura linked is the only brush she will use. We started putting in a leave in treatment after she’s out of the shower and that helps too.
We have been using the old school "No more tangles", it has a funny smell, but seems to work.
Unrelated, has anyone tried "Splendid Spoon"? I'm thinking about it. I am very bad at packing my own lunch and eating breakfast while I am getting everyone ready and out the door. I think that this might help me with that it. It's also all gluten free, which means that I can eat it.
waverly, leave in conditioner and a braid before bed helps with DD tangles. She is a restless sleeper so if we don't braid her wet hair at night it is a mess in the morning. She uses the Suave detangle spray when needed.
waverly, We found that switching to "grown up" shampoo and conditioner instead of the kid 2 in 1 stuff made a big difference. I also swear by the wet brush, it's a game changer!
Anyone have a good body scrub? My elbows and knees are a mess.
FabFitFun had a good one that was a sugar scrub cube and it's a game changer for me. I'll probably try and make my own once I run out since they're kind of pricey, but it's probably my favorite thing I've ever gotten in a box.
It's this one (but the one in the box was different quantity)
mommyatty I was just about to post the exact cubes k3am did, and then thought ‘I should click on her recommendation first on the odd chance it’s the same.’ I like that you can just tear off part of a cube and not use the whole thing. I just saw a sample pack of different colors for sale at Paper Source the other day from the same company.

+1 about the importance of a good adult conditioner. DD has long hair like me. Thin hair but lots of it. We use Suave kids detangler as a supplement to that
We wash every other day, but sometimes I need help until I can get her in the shower. She just had her hair trimmed and more layers to make it easier. We should braid everyday because braids and pony tails help, but we don't often get to it.
We do use an adult conditioner and a wet brush, and also have tried just leaving the conditioner on. We've done everything, but I need something just to get a comb through it. Basically in order to not use leave in, I would have to wash it daily and brush while wet with conditioner in it, and I don't really have time to do that plus with winter here then now I have to dry it as well.
phdmomma, I've never heard of splendid spoon. Off to google.
waverly, I fought DD's crazy tangly hair for years. We tried every detangler and conditioner out there and nothing helped. Mornings were still awful. Once I took her to my hair stylist for a real haircut her hair became so much easier to manage. I about threw up paying $50 for a child's haircut but it made a big difference. She didn't really take any length off but whatever she did to clean it up was magic.
abs , We are getting closer to that real haircut. I had them start to add layers, which they did, but they were so long that I didn't notice a difference. Then when I took her in again she had a different stylist and I said OK shorter layers so I can actually tell there are some, and it is probably the best haircut she has had thus far.
