Our sewer line broke! We had sewage backing up into our crawlspace, and managed to stop it just in time to keep it from flooding our actual basement. We are going to have to dig and repair at least a section, and maybe the whole thing.
I'm sure you know this but get a few bids. Here the companies are all over the place in terms of pricing. They also don't have to have a license unless they're going to be connecting to the city's sewer line so you get a whole bunch of shitty companies. Before the warranty expires get a video scope done on the line to make sure that there's not a problem that needs repair.
@sameoldstory - I have State Farm and got a sewer line rider for $18/year.
Thanks. I just emailed my agent to find out if I even have this type of coverage, and if not, what I need to do to add it. My house is nearly 50 years old so I do worry about having this exact same kind of issue.

I didn't know that this was a thing. I know that you are local to me, do you have a company that you recommend?
I'm sorry dr.girlfriend , that really sucks, but at least you found it before you had a complete failure.
Our sewer lines are riders and our water lines are through the township
So, apparently my homeowners insurance doesn't offer coverage for any Service Lines. I posted on a local FB group looking for recommendations and got a hard sell from a local agent trying to convince me to switch to a company that offers this, so, we'll see. Thanks.

Hmmm...I have State Farm...that's good to know. I called my insurance agent to see if this was covered under my regular homeowner's policy and he said "only if it's due to a covered event" like if it was damaged because a tree fell on the house or the house caught fire or whatever. I do get water line insurance policy notifications through the water company but I'll check if that includes both water and sewer. At the time I thought I would just eat the cost (I think the letters usually say the repair can cost up to $5k)but I definitely wasn't expecting it to be so soon after all our big addition expenses.
it really is. Our sewer line backed up into the garage 3 days after our final plumbing inspection and 1 day after we moved in.... After going way over budget on our renovation I wasn't exactly excited to shell out another $5k for a sewer line.
