This is saying a lot, since Biden is running. And really, that's not a knock on Biden - it's just that he has been in Washington since 1973 and a lot of best practices, let's say, when it comes to talk and action on race in America have changed in that time period, so I'd honestly expect there to be some cringe-worthy things in his past. (And there are.)
The most recent poll I saw shows Biden with 50% of the black vote, whereas Buttigieg is at zero. I think that voters will give some latitude for missteps if you also have some evidence of doing work for the community. That's what we saw with Hillary Clinton at least. Biden has problems, but some of those are cancelled out by some accomplishments. Buttigieg, on the other hand, seems utterly unaware that there were black people living in his home town until he announced his run.
Biden is now forever linked with Obama for black voters. Same with HRC. Black folks loved them some Bill Clinton, so her numbers were always going to be high with black folks.
Pete - he can go sat down.
Here's another thing about Biden and black voters. Biden is very moderate. Black voters tend to be far more moderate than they are progressive. ESPECIALLY older black voters which is where Biden is carrying the sheer number of supporters.
Well, this morning I was going to vote for Kamala.
*sigh/sob*
I guess I’m behind Warren now, unless a miracle happens and Castro can hang on and somehow gain a foothold by the time I get to vote. But honestly, if it’s coming down to Warren, Biden, Bernie, or Pete, the only choice for me of those top 4 is Warren.
Billionaires who bought their way in/generic white men/Tulsi- take a seat.
With today's depressing update, my vote has change to Castro - real choice, Warren - feasible choice
Yeah, if I were caucusing in Iowa, I'd plan to stand in Castro's corner until he inevitably got less than 15% of support, then move to Warren.
My state doesn't primary until the end of April, so I'm sure the chance of Castro still being around is less than 1%. :/ If there's more than one person in the primary at that time (I have a feeling there'a really good chance there will be) I'll vote for Warren.
If he can hold out, my vote is now going to Julian Castro. I'm rather gutted right now.
I liked your post in solidarity, not that I am happy that you are gutted. Gotta admit, I cried on the way home from work yesterday, and again when I saw a Tweet from her husband.
