I can't speak for them and what they expect.

However, I can see the logic and efficiency of sharing a press release on the topic. There are still going to be people who search for "antebellum wedding" and "plantation wedding" for years to come. When they can't get any indexed search items on Pinterest or theknot.com, they will complain. The social media team for those companies can then efficiently reply with a canned response that refers them to the press release. 

I imagine the platforms will also have to periodically remove hashtags on people's pins as part of this effort to curb their platform's contribution to perpetuating this business. That activity will require an easily accessed reference for quick and easy replies.
