In honor of the fact that H walked in on DD1 teaching her five year old sister the F word and later she vented to him that she “hated” a classmate because “she’s better at everyone at everything.” Joy! Now I get to be subject to another lecture on how my choices to put her in public school have ruined her for life. 🙄
Also there are times that I hate working with the federal government. Hate it. No one will respond to me, there is no sense of urgency, the paperwork requirements are insane, ever changing and opaque and yet everything is the contractors fault when things go away.

TGIF is right although NOTHING is going right today.
Work is totally crazy but crazy with multiple totally disparate projects. Kids school fundraising that I'm in charge of is totally crazy and things keep going wrong that I then have to fix. All stuff outside my control based on other people's errors and weird expectations. I was messing with school fundraising this AM and suddenly looked up at realized the kids were going to be late to school. First time. The thing that makes me crazy is that when the kids are late they have to go to the desk and get a note. They are super sweet about it when you do it, but it feels shamey to me. But there's no negative consequences but somehow this happening messed with my head all morning long. My niece who has been driving with me to work noticed how upset I was and told me i needed to do her breathing exercises. It didn't really help. In my rush to get the kids out the door I didn't change shoes so now I'm going to all these meetings in sneakers. Also I'm making a bunch of little mistakes. I'm driving myself bonkers.

librarychica, getting someone to respond in the federal government is the worst! My small work unit of about 50 people get overloaded with emails from outside clients because other work units won't respond to their emails, or it takes weeks to get an answer. My unit has to work quick and has a reputation of getting things done, so we end up doing a lot that is not part of our job description. Even being on the inside, it's still frustrating for me because I often can't get answers in the time I need either.
I am very ready for Friday! Today is the start of my week with DS, but he's being throwing up since yesterday, so basketball and his friend's birthday party may not happen. It was a weird week for me and I'm ready for it to be over.
I started my day by having to attend an all staff meeting one of my employees had for her staff where she basically said "shape up or ship out". The amount of DUMB employee stuff we have had to deal with this month is just ridiculous. Like, I had an employee that was JUST written up for something pretty serious vaping in his office. Like, I walk by and he is just vaping like he is at home - he's not trying to even hide it or anything. We work at a credit union, have a tobacco free campus policy, and he has been warned about this before (no one had ever caught him, just suspected). Are you 13? Like, seriously? You were just written up for a pretty serious mistake and you're just going to go ahead and vape like its NBD?
I just found out I’m now locked out of all networked computers in the building except my personal laptop. So that’s great, I definitely don’t need at least 3 of those computers TO DO MY JOB!! Gah! They constantly mess up this being an employee for one company working in a building of another company thing. I thought since nothing had broken or come up in the past 3-5 months we were passed the growing pains. How naive of me!!
My boss has went off the deep end. I assume we are going to have it out Monday. I have a feeling she is going to make our lives hell for the foreseeable future . That is all.
My day is all thrown off because we had to meet with the kitchen designer. We picked out our cabinets, and they’re 25% off if we can get the order in before 12/20. So we had to lay it all out and roughly choose counters and backsplash. She told us to plan for 2 hours today. DH finally left after 4, and I spent another 30 mins there. I had a million other things to do so I’m wondering when I will get it all done now...
But I’m excited about the kitchen. A much better lay out and so much storage. It’s going to be a huge, inconvenient undertaking, but exciting nonetheless!
Day 3 of meetings is over and now I'm on to holiday party event planner mode.
All week I've had people approaching me that the holiday party guest list is small this year, it seems like no one wants to go, how are we going to make it more fun, etc... I inherited planning this thing a month ago. Venue, entertainment, all of it was already booked. I've just been coordinating final details. If other managers want more people to attend, why can't they push their teams to attend?! I'm not going to beg staff to go to a party.
I'm starting to get really nervous about beau meeting people. I'm sure it'll be fine, but I honestly don't love attending the holiday party myself so I hope I don't look awkward and anxious the entire time with him there.
rere , Still about the volunteering thing? We don't ask people staff to volunteer either. Labor law issues. We do have a pool of volunteers we can pull from, so maybe that is an option to have existing volunteers or teens that need hours for school/ National Honor Society. Your flex your schedule idea should have worked too though honestly.
I remember I had a teenager working for me that got a doctors note that she couldn't work, and then showed up at an event to volunteer. I was like if your doctor says you can't work, then why are you volunteering now. I was pissed. Of course the teen didn't know better, and didn't want to follow her doctor's orders, but the volunteer coordinator (on staff) should have or better yet said if you are on staff you can't volunteer. Lots of WTF in that situation. Again, not blaming the naïve 17 year old.
My day has actually been going OK (knocks on wood and every other material). DH finally landed from his trip to Vegas. Ugh, so ready to have another adult in the house.

So sorry to hear about everyone who's having a crappy day! Hopefully the weekend is much better.
My day has been busy, but good. It's my Friday off, but this morning I went to a moms prayer group and then my parents took me and the kids out to lunch because it was a half day. DD had a bit of a melt-down at lunch because she just got the full wire on for braces yesterday and her teeth still hurt when she eats. After lunch the kids and I went to a follow-up appointment for DD to see if she needs an adjustment to her glasses Rx (which she does) while her lenses are still covered by warranty and then we went to the chiropractor. Now we're home and I'm trying to muster the energy to do some cleaning...
Took DD to the dentist at 8 and she has to have sealant redo on two molars so we go back on MLK day next month. I'm going to ask about a warranty as these sealant are less than 2 years old. Came home for an our and then we both saw the chiropractor. Grabbed Wendy's for lunch and DD is napping and I'm chilled out in bed with the dog. DD has practice at 4 so will need to wake her un about 50 minutes.
I decided to move playdate to ho see SIL/BIL on Saturday instead of Sunday. But I'm checking with SIL first because who knows if that Saturday even works for them. Also I asked for gift ideas and BIL says my 4 year old nephew wants this fancy Charger ball cap that is $30, for a hat. I'm really scratching my head over that suggestion.
Very quiet weekend planned as I want DD to kick her sickness plus I'm just exhausted.
I had a fairly good Friday. I got a ton done at work. My boss and I were finishing each other’s sentences and just felt in sync. I reviewed a lot of documents.
And DS’s psychologist who is doing his education assessment could shift days so I’ll be in town to take him. So I won’t be worried about how he’s doing while I’m giving my speech in DC in a couple of weeks.

supertrooper1 it’s definitely not everyone in the government, of course, and people like you are priceless. It’s just so frustrating sometimes! I’m neither brilliant nor especially creative but I’m organized. I cross my Ts, dot my Is, keep a solid calendar and try to be as accommodating and polite-but-firm as I can possibly be and still deadlines get blown and questions aren’t answered because people won’t call me back or answer a flipping question!
The day had some redeeming value. I managed to finish a few tricky accounting things at work and take the girls to DD1’s holiday around the world night at school with good behavior and no meltdowns!
librarychica ,if it makes you feel any better, today I basically had to threaten to call the next level up of a federal agency because they flat refuse to tell us what they will consider to be in compliance with the law for a situation where the law is crystal clear that they don’t even have jurisdiction. But they want to have jurisdiction, so I had to say, “Okay, to be blunt, you can decide to agree you don’t have jurisdiction, you can tell us what you want to see us do, or you can go pound sand and try to bring an enforcement action that’ll get you laughed out of court if it even gets through your counsel, which it won’t. So what’s it gonna be?” The worst part? I used to work for this agency and I know damn well they aren’t following internal guidance. But I can’t very well advise my client to roll the dice because that’ll cost time and money. It was incredibly frustrating.
