We are 900 miles from home and ds1 came down with a stomach bug today. We were at BIL’s and I bleached their bathroom from top to bottom twice in an effort to keep them from getting it. We then drove back to my parent’s am hour away - where he more than likely picked it up from a cousin over the weekend. I am crossing everything that H, ds2, and I don’t get it as we have to drive home Thursday and Friday.
Sick kids stink but being away from home is extra sucky. I’m happy to leave 2019 behind me at this point!
Sick kids sure do stink. We had to take DD to the ER on Christmas night - they kept her overnight because her appendix was borderline big. Thank got it wasn’t that - just constipation. Turns out you can poop every day and still be constipated (chronic).
I’m kinda of down because it’s likely MH is going to have to have open heart surgery sometime this year, so like already know 2020 is going to suck.
Hope the rest of you stay bug-free @dcn and I’m sorry you guys are facing that, lauren170!
My random is a very mild vent in comparison. H and I never ever get to go on a date. Something always comes up, no matter what. My mom volunteered two days ago to watch the boys overnight, and we had a fun dinner out planned and a movie. H woke up with a 103 fever this morning. I didn’t want to waste a babysitter, so I went shopping, got Chinese takeout for dinner and took myself to see Little Women. I texted my mom at 9:45 pm to check in, and BOTH kids are wide awake. Instead of spending the remaining 2.5 hours of my night binging Netflix and sipping wine, I went and picked up two hyper kids and spent the last 50 minutes getting them to sleep. H is already asleep. At least I got to see a movie? They better sleep past 6 am tomorrow!
We actually made it to midnight! But we're probably not going to get much sleep tonight. During DD's nap today she flipped from her back to her tummy in her dockatot. So that came out of her bassinet immediately. But she hates sleeping in an open space. She likes being cozy in the dockatot. She hates being swaddled. And I just hope she doesn't wake her brother up with her crying tonight.
DD was kind enough to wake us up at midnight to celebrate.
I really wanted to go to brunch today, but I've got a sickness that won't go away, and I'm worried it has morphed into an ear infection for me it sounds like H might be coming down with what I have now too. That plus DD still working on her front teeth and this is going to be a long NYD.
We finally got home last night after an amazing road trip that spanned 12 days, 8 states, and over 2500 miles in the car. We got to see lots of friends and family that we don’t get to see often, and it was incredible. Very tiring, but incredible.
Anyway, we got home last night and have a mountain of laundry, presents still to open, and lots of organizing to do to find space for new stuff. We need to go through and clean out clothes that don’t fit or we don’t wear anymore, sort and purge toys, etc.
I’m so sick of everyone being sick. This is the first time since kids were born that I’ve been able to take off work between Xmas and NY and it has been awful. One or both kids has been sick the entire time (and ongoing pretty much since Sept). Yesterday I came down with a 102 fever. I just asked H for a little time to rest without the kids bugging me and he keeps getting “busy” so they keep driving me crazy. Fucking everyone. Just leave me alone!
I stayed true to my own tradition of going to bed 20 minutes before midnight. Now I'm up with A because my H stayed up later and I'm feeling generous for now.
We had a great new year - we had a little party with friends and watched the new year in London so it was at 7pm then I was asleep by 9. Amazing. I took one of my favorite classes at the gym this morning at 7:30 which I usually don’t get to take since it’s a weekday.
I am wrapping up 12 days of PTO and have the “Sunday scaries” with how much work I have coming up. So many Q1 events this year!
I am making peanut ginger chicken in the crockpot and trying to find some new recipes to try this year while the kiddos are doing cosmic yoga. Anyone have a good chicken lettuce wrap recipe? Maybe one with peanuts that I could make less spicy for my kids but add spice for myself?

noodleoo ditto. I’m so sick, day freaking 9 and I’m developing new symptoms. Every time h gives me alone time he finds a way to come in saying where’s mommy, what’s mommy doing? Seriously?! I want Spring! I’m over winter, over people going out sick getting others sick. I want some Kind of cure for this plague.

I have a turkey lettuce wrap recipe! Can you share your peanut ginger chicken recipe?
1 lb ground turkey Green Onions 1/4 cup hoisin sauce 2 tsp chopped ginger 3 oz water chestnuts 1-2 cups Slaw mix (I use the tri-color mix) 1.5 oz Asian sesame dressing Fried wonton strips for garnish Head of butter lettuce for cups
Brown ground turkey. Add hoisin sauce, ginger, water chestnuts, and white portions of green onions. Add pinch of salt and pepper.
Combine Asian sesame dressing with green portions of green onion.
Assemble cups by spooning turkey mixture into cups. Add slaw mix. Drizzle Asian sesame dressing overtop. Add wonton strips if desired.
You can add sriracha to the meat for the adults if you want some kick. I’ve never added peanuts but you definitely could sub that for the wonton strips.

Thanks!!
I use this recipe - I don’t do the potatoes but I shred the chicken and serve over jasmine rice and it’s delicious!
My youngest is sick. She's got a cough and congestion but no ear infection. She isn't sleeping well as a result and neither are we. Glad she waited til we got home to get sick at least.
