We are in the throes of basketball season. DD1 loves it. DD2... not as much. We got the smallest kids and the fewest on the team, and no one has played before. DD2 is up against kids that are almost twice her size, and still blocking shots. So fun to see.
DD2 starts indoor soccer this week - 2 different leagues. So that should be fun. I’m thinking of signing her up for lacrosse in the spring, but I just don’t know if we will have the time.
Despite my vows to never coach DD1 again, I’ve signed up to coach softball. I need to be able to control the roster. I can’t have her on a team with certain kids again. My requests for placement were ignored by folks I knew pretty well, so this is the only way. Fingers crossed that it goes well...
DS is still playing basketball. His club team is just starting to play games now. They play two games (back-to-back) on Thursday nights starting 1/16.
DS is also starting practice this week for his travel baseball team; practice is every Friday evening for 2.25 hours. The head coach (who is amazing) sent out a survey asking the kids to each identify two strengths, two things they want to work on, and two goals for the team. I think it's great for the kids to have defined goals this season. This is my favorite team that he's on, so I get excited when it starts. The kids and families are awesome and so fun. All the parents are cheering for everyone's kid. The coaches are amazing.
DD wants to play softball for the first time this spring, so I'm going to sign her up for a clinic that runs three Saturdays in January. I told her that way she can make sure she likes it enough to want to commit to the whole season.
DD is still on the level 3 team she has till the end of the month to get her 6 missing skills. She was pretty excited to mark off her vault which she got on Friday. So this month is all about gymnastics. She is taking an extra class on Mondays to just work on the back-handspring, has normal practices Tu, Th, F; and has a private lesson on Wednesday nights with a different coach to work on her missing skills only. DD really doesn't want to go back to pre-team. Her coach finally told her she didn't care if the skills were perfect she just needed to get them and then they could work on perfecting them. This is what I've been telling DD for months but no Coach needs them perfect until now, ugh.
madringal, I know, no pressure...I think the whole gym is rooting for her. She has done the beam skill a couple times but not consistently. The only skill she isn't close on are the 3 she is missing on the bars but she made progress last practice on one of them. She hasn't figured out the timing or how to shift her hands and her coach hasn't been helpful saying that the shifting is just natural. One of the level 4 are letting her borrow their kip trainer for a couple weeks as that was what helped them figure out how to shift their hands.
DD got another skill! 4 more to go! She is super close on one of the three bar skills she needs. Just got an email from the head coach that the girls have no practice on Friday because their coach is going with the optional girls to an out of state meet. Pre-Team practices on Friday form 4-6. I'm going to ask head coach if DD can attend since she has her Feb 1st deadline. Being at the gym more seems to be increasing DD's confidence in her skills and the bumps and falls she is getting don't seem to matter to her as much.

We are in the midst of basketball and futsal seasons for ds1. Race season starts in February as does the comp soccer team. DH wants to get ds2 into swim lessons again but I’m not sure exactly how we will manage another weeknight commitment.
My DD (11) is too busy, as usual. She’s playing indoor soccer, in a musical that practices once/week until March, and auditioning today for her school play. We did recently pull her from aftercare and now let her come home after school. This is helping a lot with homework and chores.
My DS (7) is also doing theater (at a different location). This is his first show and he’s loving it.
DD is still in dance. It’s very much low pressure at this age. Next year she tells me she wants to do martial arts so sometime between now and fall we might do a trial class or week.
DS is in the middle of basketball. We went to the gym and practiced today which was a nice activity because it’s like 10 degrees out.
We are gearing up for DS’s tee ball. DH and I coach. DD wants to be a helper coach. Last year we didn’t have enough parents willing to be on the field during games, and it was a cluster. This year, I’m putting my foot down. If we don’t have 4 parents committed 2 days before the game, we forfeit.
mommyatty good for you. T-ball is a mess. I coached with almost no help because if DH was in town, he was herding 3 y.o. DD2.
DD2 has basketball and cried almost the whole game because no one would pass to her. But no one passed to anyone. And we only had 3 players so I couldn’t bench her. At one point she refused to play, so I had to throw DD1 in. So 4th grader playing with 1st and 2nd. Total mess. I’m not coaching next year (I say now in a rage but I will totally buckle).
It's been awesome so far. C is on break from select soccer until tomorrow but has a tournament right away. In the off season he has been playing flag football and loves it.
L is playing Basketball and having the time of her life.
Next week when we have all 3 will be crazy until the end of Feb when Basketball and flag football are done.

DS's club basketball team played their first two games last Thursday. They won both of them - the first game was pretty close, the second they won by about double the points as the other team. DS's team games overlapped with another club team from the same league, which some of DS's friends are on, and DD is really good friends with the sister of one of DS's friends on that team, so we stayed to watch part of the friends' team's first game and DD got to hang with her friend, so overall it was a good night.
DD really enjoyed the softball clinic she went to (she has two more the next two Saturdays), so I'm 99% sure she'll want to sign up for LL softball this year. I'm happy for her to try it and I hope she continues to enjoy it.
DD has been working hard at gymnastics and hopefully she passes the test to move to level two. We are about to start Girl Scout cookie season, so life is about to get crazy for about six weeks!
