Back in the office for the first time since 12/20. I've been here 30 minutes and the only actual work I've done is pull my voicemails.
My H sat in his chair suffering from a mancold all weekend and of course, now I have it, but the less severe version, the 'mom'cold. Basically I have the same symptoms as him, but I'll still pack lunches, go to work, fold laundry, drive the kids around, make dinner, you know, normal stuff.
We are back on a tight budget starting today so no more buying lunches. Adding H's new truck to the budget is going to slow down our debt payoff, so we've got to really buckle down on expenses. We've been bleeding money for the last 2 months, and need to be done.
I've been half away since like 2 and out of bed since 4. So much for trying to go to bed a little early and get a nice full night of sleep. I did burn a bunch of calories tossing and turning and I already got a workout in at least. It is going to be a very long day with a lot of coffee. I need to get some motivation to clean since my sister told me her and my nephews are going to come this weekend. I had just started pulling stuff out of our guest bedroom closets to try to purge so awesome timing.

I’m at the airport in my way on a week long business trip. I slept like garbage last night so hoping to get a few hours on the plane. I’m also second guessing my decision to wear jeans and no makeup on the plane. I land at 1:00 and don’t have any business events until 6 but I maybe should have at least put on makeup. I will likely run in to a co-worker or client on the flight.
First day back at work after 18 days off. My alarm startled my this morning when it went off lol. I did not want to go back today but its not as awful now that I am actually here. I checked my emails while I was off and knew much didnt come in while I was gone so at least I dont have a bunch of crap to catch up on.

I cracked or slipped a rib last night by coughing. I brought the groceries in and turned to cough, heard a pop, and then I was in so much pain I had to lay down on the floor. My H is out of town but luckily my parents could come and keep the kids while I went to urgent care. They didn’t do an X-ray because my oxygen was good and apparently there is nothing to be done for a cracked or slipped rib anyway. So that’s a great start to the new year.
I'm sort of back today since I am logged on, but since I'm driving 3 hours this afternoon for a training the rest of the week, I'm WFH. Emails weren't too bad. A bunch of reply alls regarding some mass email. Ugh.
Our main system will be down all of next week so now I'm scrambling to get something done by Friday, which given how unhelpful the client is, should be fun while I'm also in a class.
I only bought 2 things at the Lilly sale today. One for me and one for E. I really do have enough casual clothes at the moment.

I'm back at work after two days off, lol. But it's still annoying because there was a ton of traffic this morning, and I'm betting I'll have a million emails from people catching up after being out of the office. I'm annoyed that I have to go to our NYC office tomorrow, and it's supposed to be rainy/snowy.
I resigned from my board position at a dog rescue, and I feel so much lighter. Things were being run in a way that I disagreed with, but I was constantly getting out-voted at meetings. And there was sooo much drama! I have never experienced anything like it, even in middle school. People getting in fights, going behind each others backs, etc. So happy to be out of that toxic environment.
First day back at school and it will be a slow start! We are changing desks, going over procedure and expectations. Just easing our way back to the grind. I did get my 5 am workout in this morning.
I’m off work today. The kids don’t go back to school until tomorrow. We stayed at great wolf lodge last night and I slept like crap. DH drove home late last night because of the dog and he had an early conference call this morning. We will hit the water park again this morning and probably leave after lunch. I’m definitely taking a nap when we get home. I have a cold and have no voice which is awesome in a loud place like this. Ugh
Classes don't start until next Monday, but I'm trying to get my shit together this week and act like I'm no longer on break. I have a case prep thing tonight with a consultant that I need to prepare for, a call Wednesday with my manager for the software student rep thing I'm doing this year at school and then my case interview Thursday.
Oh! And we ordered recliners from Bassett Furniture this weekend and those will be delivered in about 30 days. We're switching from a couch and one recliner to two recliners and a love seat. The recliner in store was SO comfortable, I'm psyched about having it to sit in. We usually both sit on either end of the couch with our feet up on pillows on the coffee table anyway so this makes much more sense. I'm excited to shake things up a bit, room layout-wise.
Well I thought today DD had school and apparently they don't. I always forget they like to add a teachers work day at the end of the two weeks off. At least it gives DD more time to work on her homework that she waited to the last minute to work on. But I felt kinda of bad making her work on it last night. whoops!
I am back in the physical office today. It is nice to be among humans again.
Enjoying DD's last day off before school starts back tomorrow. I'm kind of bummed she's going back! She's been so pleasant and helpful during her break.

I really think this is the route we'll go next time we buy furniture, too. I feel like it will take up less room than our current sectional, too, which would give us more options for places to live around here (most of the rentals we looked at when we moved had tiny living rooms or they were long but not wide). I would LOVE to have a recliner, I sit in such weird positions on our current couch to get a similar effect but it's not as comfortable.
I am super tired today. I woke up from a bad dream at 4:45 and since the alarm goes off at 5:30, I couldn't fall back asleep. But I feel like I could now, lol. Too bad I'm at work.
We leave on vacation Thursday night so I know this week is going to be a struggle to focus and get anything done.
I think I have a massage scheduled tonight, but I'm not sure. I bought a 4 pack of massages from a small business a few months ago, and this should be my 4th. But it will be my last there. The girl is very sweet and has good technique, but she is not great at running a business and I haven't heard anything recently about my appointment. I sent them a message (there is no phone number) yesterday asking to confirm and haven't heard back yet. I know if I have the massage she'll be at least 20-30 minutes behind schedule and leave the room multiple times during it without an explanation (I think kid related stuff) so I'm glad this is my last one there.

Our friends in Charleston have this set up in their living room and it used to feel very "Lucy & Ricky twin beds" to me for some reason, but then I thought about it and realized we're barely ever touching on the couch anyway, lol. H is not a cuddler so we won't be losing anything and we'll both be more comfortable and have more space.
And I lucked out and found a basically brand new West Elm love seat on FB Marketplace for $300. So. I took that as a sign.
Classes don't begin until next Monday but I have not even looked at the book we will be using or anything. So I have to work my butt off this week: making syllabi, building my learning management pages for all 4 classes, prepping the readings/lectures etc. It feels stressful. However, I had 3 glorious weeks of none of that!
I need to take down the decorations and tree still. Hope to somehow get that done today as well.

I can’t figure out if Ds3 is waking FOR AN HOUR 😢 MOTN because he is in the crib or because of solids. Trying not to drive myself crazy with what if’s.

This is super weird, lol.
It is! The whole place is weird. She's always way behind schedule, which, fine. But then when I finally get into the room, she tells me to change and she'll be right back - and then it's anywhere from 10-20 minutes until she returns. Then at least a couple of times during the massage she'll either leave without saying anything, or say "I'll be right back" but not give explanation. One time I also could swear she was texting (she kept taking long pauses while she was in the room). She has 5 kids, including one that was born in the spring, and I assume she has a husband or partner but I have no idea what his schedule is like so I think she's probably juggling her appointments with child stuff. Her teenager is sometimes there to greet customers but I don't think the other kids are present, so maybe she's getting messages from babysitters or whoever?
I don't know, but I've decided it isn't my problem lol. Since I paid for 4 up front (at a discount) I wanted to use them all, but I find the whole thing stressful. It's too bad because she's really nice and I want to support a small women run business, but it's not worth it.
I watched the Golden Globes last night, my favorite award show for the boozy, laid back atmosphere. Glad that Once Upon A Time In Hollywood did well. It was a really good movie.
Not sure what is on the agenda today other than random errands and catching up on some shows in peace.

Yeah, I wouldn't go back either. The whole point of a massage is relaxation and that sounds like the opposite of a relaxing experience!

I would love Lucy and Ricky beds, lol. I think there is no shame in doing whatever works for your habits. My H isn't a cuddler either and honestly, I like to cuddle for about 5 minutes and then I start thinking of all the ways that position are hurting me and I stop. You're still together, even if you aren't touching
We were in the office two days last week and it was a struggle but I'm glad I came in because all the cobwebs got swept away and most people are caught up and ready to work - which is a good thing since I have at least four meetings today.
wildrice, you are nicer than me because I would not be putting up with that.
My dryer broke last night. Thankfully it was on the last load of the evening and the clothes were halfway dry. The error suggested the heating element needs to be replaced so the repair guy is coming Friday afternoon. Our master shower faucet also broke a couple weeks ago and the stove before that and the freezer before that. Apparently everything breaks when it’s 7 years old (we built in 2012). I can’t wait to see what else breaks this year. Ugh.

I had my kids in my office with me for about an hour this morning while their nana went to a doctor's appointment. Man, my daughter is great. She's 6 (almost 7) and brought a stack of books to read to her brother (8 months) along with toys for him. She kept that baby busy and happy the whole time.
I feel bad, though, because everyone thought DD was here to sell Girl Scout cookies and sales don't start until February. Poor hungry coworkers.
First day back in the office since before Christmas here too. Getting myself and the kids up and out the door wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, though no one was thrilled to be up so early. Traffic wasn't even too bad, until there was a fender bender at my exit and then the security gate was backed up. I've got a relatively easy to do list after going through email- just a few follow up calls and emails.
DD's grade FINALLY got the third teacher they've needed for two years now over break, so she'll be in today and tomorrow setting up her classroom and spending time with the two existing classes to meet kids and learn routines, then the kids switch homerooms on Wednesday. They've been really intentional about the two classes having the same routines, expectations, etc. so it should be a smooth transition. Looking forward to meeting her on Friday, I know the principal has passed on a number of qualified-on-paper candidates because the team didn't feel like they were a good fit, so I'm guessing she's going to be pretty awesome.

I won't be anymore! But the pricing structure is such that getting a refund wouldn't have made sense. I think I paid like $240 for 4 massages, but a single massage is $90 so if I had asked for a refund I'm sure she would have charged me the full rate for the first one, which would be a big overpayment (especially given its issues). I thought maybe that one was a fluke, but after 2 more I'm pretty sure it's not.
She did confirm that my last appointment is tonight, so we'll see how that goes. Even if none of that nonsense happens, I won't be returning. I'm just glad I didn't buy 12 at once like I considered, lol.
I went ahead and ordered a new dress for the house birthday party we are going to. It looks more winter-appropriate than my other dressier options but not so fancy it would look weird wearing it to just like a nicer dinner out so I’ll get some other use out of it. I don’t want to stand out at the party! They are always pretty dressed up and the last time we went there for dinner they were all “we’re grilling!” then they served a signature cocktail and surf and turf. Who knows what an actual party would be like!
Some how everything I’ve ordered in the last month is arriving today. Shoes, games, the dog’s medication, late presents, back ordered stuff. The dogs are going nuts and I’m getting zero work done.
