Right now DH is on the way to the children’s hospital from children’s urgent care to see an ortho specialist.
It’s in her lower leg. She had just started ice skating lessons and they had given kids passes to come during open skate and so he took her tonight. She fell and then wouldn’t put any weight on it.
I feel awful that I’m not there. They’re both upset and I know DH is blaming himself.
My mom is on standby to drive down and I could drop the class, although DH already said not to do that.
I’ve been there. It’s hard. My husband and I were on vacation when my son got a concussion and was out of school for a week with headaches and light sensitivity. Just give lots of extra hugs when you get back.
Crap. I’m sorry. Over my years of teaching I’ve had two kids with broken legs, a couple broken arms and wrists. They were all very resilient and w to be at school. I had a kid break her arm this year and she came to school the next day. Obviously it’s not the same as the leg. But kids can be tough.
Ugh. I’m sorry. DD broke her arm last year when her Dad took her to a trampoline place. It was a Saturday and she was back at school on Monday. I know it’s so hard as a parent when our kids get hurt.

I hope she feels better fast. I know how you feel and it sucks. I landed cross-country for a week long work trip to a voice makes that my ds broke his arm. It was so hard to be so far away. I hope she feels better and the time flies for you.
Oh man. I'm sorry! Thankfully they are using boots more often than casts these days, which makes home life a little easier. I hope it's not a major break. (DS is on his 4th break right now.) It tends to be more annoying than anything. Kids get used to boots and casts quickly!
Just to chime with another kid broken bone anecdote to make you feel a bit better (hopefully) Last March my 5yo DD broke her elbow at a sports day camp. It was bad too- bone was fully displaced and she had an obvious deformity. Rushed to the hospital via ambulance, she had surgery that evening and 3 pins placed which stayed in for a month.
She bounced back and was at school just a couple days later when spring break ended. Kids are tough! Sending hugs though because damn it's stressful when they get hurt!

Not a parent, but I broke my tibia when I was 10 and I couldn't wait to show the other kids my cast! I think the break was on a Thursday, and I was back to school on Monday. Kids totally bounce back. You're probably suffering more than she is by today!
My advice is to be extremely diligent if physical therapy is required. You'll be such a bad guy, but it is critical. My parents let me be lax about it, and my back and hips have never fully recovered. I walk with my right foot at a 45* angle to this day. Not to scare you at all -- I have absolutely no permanent limitations from it -- but I wish they had pushed me more.

Ugh. I’m so sorry. It’s hard to be away at all especially when things like this happen. Hopefully she bounces back quickly and you will be home before you know.
I'd have him call them back and let them know that she's having issues. They can likely alter her splint or re-do it. She still may not see the doctor until next week, but they should be able to fix the splint in the meantime to make it more comfortable for her.
Ok I don’t have kids and I’ve never broken anything but how can they wait a week to assess/cast a broken leg???
It has to do with swelling. Which I get. But DH says he thinks she’s getting pee on the splint, which isn’t good. Also figuring out school.
Poor kiddo - how embarrassing on top of her pain. They will give you a new splint if it keeps happening and if she has to keep it on longer. It's just so hard to sleep with aching broken bones, too.
Oh and my oldest on also got a splint for his arm and broken leg until the ortho could look at it with swelling down. Luckily we ended up not needing surgery for either, and only needing the casts for both breaks when swelling was down. I hope you are home and hugging her soon.
I hope she's feeling better. Look into renting a wheelchair for school. My nephew was in a full leg cast around the same age. He transitioned from a wheelchair to a walker at school over the course of a couple months when he had a bad break.
