I teach 8th grade civics, and am about to embark on Just Mercy (reading and then will take my students to the movie). Before I do that, I need to cover the Bill of Rights. I want to find a video about protest-- both peaceful and, perhaps not. I'd really like to show something about Colin Kaepernick that explains the history of protest and the white, patriarchal perspective that protest is fine as long as it's nice and convenient.
I can't seem to find anything that I love, though. I did find a then / now comparison but the language was not clean.
My skills aren't great but I sent you a couple via Messenger that are informative or interesting re: Kaepernick and 1968 Olympics. The Olympics one is more engaging but the Kaepernick one touches on a lot of current protests.

If you want to use a picture book as an additional resource, I recommend āThe Undefeatedā by Kwame Alexander. I used it with my 7th graders last year and it really resonated with them.

This is a great idea! Our next unit is writing childrenās books about social justice topics so itāll be perfect.
I don't know about videos, but Teaching Tolerance has lots of great lessons and activities if you need or want anything additional. I used their activities with a high school class I taught, but also sometimes with the younger students (I was just with high school more). They also have some great film kits.
