Thought I would post a quick update since everyone was so helpful and encouraging on my original post.
You guys. I hate to admit it but I have been enjoying cooking! My dh is being so over the top supportive (LOL) he even ate gross burnt garlic pasta I made the other night. He is so excited to have someone to share the burden of cooking dinner.
Amazon fresh + 2 hour delivery window has been amazing.
I bought a 5.5qt round Le Creuset Dutch oven & enameled cast iron frying pan. Love them! I had a giant oval Le Creuset Dutch oven and it’s just too big and heavy for everyday.
Silicone spoon! Whoa. Thanks for suggesting this. Life changing!
After mincing garlic for the first time it dawned on me i didn’t own a garlic press. Done. Oxo garlic press has made everything so much easier. (I had only used one for play dough growing up)
Instant pot. Not a necessity but it was nice to make shredded chicken in.
Nordicware 1/2 sheet pans. I had no idea sheet pan dinners were a thing. So easy.
Getting our two kitchen knives sharpened and new cutting boards.
Instant read thermometer (again thanks for the suggestion) my husband has a fancy meater WiFi thermometer but I like the simple instant read version.
Used the immersion blender, rice cooker, food processor, the pretty All-Clad pots, salad spinner and mandoline that we already owned for the first time.
The biggest thing has been using disposable gloves to handle meat. This is dumb but I’ve had this irrational hang up about raw meat and gloves solve that problem.
Anyways just wanted to say thank you! I can’t believe I’ve actually cooked meat! I so appreciate all your responses and encouragement.
The more you cook, the more confident you’ll feel, and the more you’ll be able to strike off on your own and cook recipes from memory or tweak them to suit your needs. Having good tools helps a ton, too.
