Dear flu, Well, that escalated quickly. I figured you were just a quick cold I had to get over. Now here I am, still in bed since Sunday and still feeling weak and woozy. I really wanted to get back to the office today, but you couldn't even let me take a shower and do my makeup without total exhaustion setting in. I have stuff to do, dammit! Signed, Sick and Tired
Dear team, I owe you guys big time. I'm so sorry I'm not in the office to help pack and ship everything this week. I feel like a terrible leader who bailed on you. Signed, Feeling super guilty
Feel better soon! And your team understands. Don’t worry. Jump on a con call with them and sound miserable. That should do it. 😊
- Mae
Dear school -
Thank you for finally taking things seriously and putting the other kid on a behavioral plan. There should be consequences for this latest mess, but at least you’re finally coming around to the fact that it’s not my kid causing these problems. She can be tough at home, but everyone there knows she’s an angel at school.
Still, the police officer working drop off for the first time ever was an interesting touch.

Dear twinmomma, Feel better soon! Signed, Worried that I'll come down with DS's flu
Dear snowmobiling trip, Please be fun. I'm nervous about being off the grid with no running water, electricity and just an outhouse. Signed, Former country girl that likes modern conveniences
Hey! You all actually showed up to our meeting yesterday! I’m super impressed. And super surprised. Also, thank you for not acting like asshats when I had to tell you your people aren’t being properly trained and aren’t following procedures. Now if I can get some help with rectifying that situation, it would be great.
Signed, It Shouldn’t Be This Hard
Dear Stomach:
I know you’re nervous. But please stop with the upset.
Please listen to my advice going forward. You are not an expert in my world, so when you chose to go rogue and present things (a) without me there and (b) ignoring all of my coaching, things that we could have gotten approved are now being escalated to our CEO. I'm not even sure I can unpack the mess you boxed up.
My heart is broken for you and your kids (2 kids, around ages 10 & 13) after hearing the news that your husband was killed in an auto accident yesterday. I can't even fathom what you are going through, but having to go through this and try to support your kids emotionally too and make sure their basic needs are met I would imagine makes it even harder. You are in my thoughts and prayers big time.
Dear teacher, I’m soooo sorry I forgot to drop ds off early this morning to the classroom instead of before care. You are amazing. Please dont hold this against us. We really appreciate all you do. Signed, Dropped the ball
Dear dh, Yes this is a big deal. The teacher is doing extra to help ds. Drop off is your job. I hate last minute requests to help you out, especially when it backfires like this. Please do more because I can’t do it all all the time. And yes I realize that means you have to tell work no. They get enough of you. Signed, Sorry I helped
So everyone is out of school the next 2 days for sickness, except the district where my class is tomorrow. Awesome. I am sure those little petri dishes are going to have germs everywhere.
Signed, Hypochondriac
Dear DS,
Sorry about your luck kid. The high school may be out for sickness tomorrow, but your 8 AM English 101 class on the college campus is not.
Dear IRS Please approve the 2018 forms that are affected by the extender bill. I have lots of clients that would like to amend to get more $$$ from not only the feds but also the state that tied into this bill. I would also like to be able to get paid for all the work I'm doing instead of it sitting in a draw on hold. Tax preparer
Dear me You need to find some focus and energy. I'm taking vitamins and trying to go to bed early and still feel exhausted all the time. Maybe try to fit in some selfcare time this week. Even if it is just a couple long hot showers. Tired me who still has 3 hours of work left today
Your schools close for sickness? I’ve never heard of that!
They do it in extreme cases here. My friend just told me that her kids’ school had 400 kids out with norovirus last week. Population of the town is 20k, 5 elementary schools, and ONE SCHOOL had 400 kids out. In other districts, I’ve seen them force a “snow day” and they deep clean/bleach the school.
Dear daycare that runs before school care, When school has a 90 minute snow delay, why don't you offer before care on the same adjusted schedule? Do you not realize that by eliminating before care entirely AND pushing back the start time of school, parents who use before care are essentially losing a half a day of work? I rely on before care because of how early I have to get to my job. Waiting until 9:15 to drop my kids off, plus my commute time, means I'm blowing half a day of PTO for your staff to get to sleep in and avoid snow during these "90 minute delays." It's infuriating. Signed, Pissed parent
Dear boss, I swear, I'm coming back to the office today. It'll just be late, because of my stupid before school care situation. I'm trying. Signed, Feeling better
How about you give me at least a week or two between illnesses? Because I can feel myself coming down with something new and I haven’t even managed to get rid of the cold I had last week.
Signed, Eff off.
PS you’re keeping me awake. It’s 3:30am, and swallowing shouldn’t be this hard.
Your schools close for sickness? I’ve never heard of that!
We've got about 4 entire school systems down the rest of the week and one that came back on just this week. They tell me it is a funding issue and schools are somehow docked money when attendance drops below 90%. Plus in the school I was in yesterday, they say the staff are dropping like flies and they have to put a teacher with 2 classes because lack of subs.

Schools in my area will close due to illness, if a certain % of students are absent. Unfortunately, we haven't hit that threshold, but I would guarantee at this point that over 1/3 of students have been ill in the last two weeks...and it's probably approaching half. (Both my kids were out last week.) I'm irritated that at least our school wasn't closed today and tomorrow for illness so a cleaning team can go in and bleach/deep clean everything, and give students a break to not be around other sick/contagious kids for a long weekend.
We do have a mid-winter break Valentine's day weekend (1/2 day on Friday, and then Monday off for President's day), and it can't come soon enough!!
We have closed for sickness a couple times and I think we were close the week before last. DS's teacher told me this week that she has had 4 out of her 19 students test positive for influenza B. I almost took DS to the dr after she told me that but his fever broke after the 3rd night.
Our district didn't close but it got bad on Thursday really bad Friday and then went into the MLK long weekend. They did bring in an extra service to deep clean both infected schools. One school had influenza and the other had norovirus. A few smaller district just north of us closed the week of Thanksgiving due to norovirus. When the school has 300 kids and 100+ kids plus staff were out it makes sense to close.
twinmomma, I agree that before care not operating on delayed starts is just stupid. Luckily ours opens at 6:30 normally and on a delay start they open at 7:30 because they get parents can't wait until almost 10:45 to drop kids off at school. All the schools have a really late start time so a 2 hour delay just makes it seem absurd.
