beerlover, I probably wouldn't take a Xanax. Does your dentist know you're afraid?
I've had several cavities filled after a fear of the dentist kept me away for many, many years. When I finally returned, I made it clear to the dentist that I was afraid of most dental work causing pain or being uncomfortable. My dentist talked me through the procedure - what I should feel, what to do if I felt anything sharp or uncomfortable, what each tool was for and what the process was for drilling and filling the cavity.
One thing I did not anticipate and was not warned about was the smell. It was kind of...burn-y? There's quite a bit of vibration and pressure, but nothing uncomfortable. It was honestly very quick, I thought. At the end, you'll do a bite test with some kind of carbon paper so they can shape the tooth for your bite. This was the hardest part for me because I was very numb. I did need to go back and have the bite adjusted after a few days because the numbing altered how I was biting down. You'll have some soreness afterward, but I would imagine since the cavity is small, it won't last for very long. It can take quite a bit of time for teeth with larger fillings to settle.
isabel - try coconut oil on your hands. Put on at night and maybe wear some cotton gloves to bed. I put it on my face when it gets real dry in the winter and it works miracles
My question - Is anyone else willing to admit that they enjoy certain MLMs? Granted, I'm not generally bombarded by all of the new ones, but if someone I know throws a Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, or 31 Bags party, I am 100% there! Maybe I should put this in the confessions thread? LOL
I am technically a 31 rep. I mainly have it for the discount and the one fundraiser I do for my a cappella choir. I don't make shit on it and I've never went out and tried to. *shrug*
It’s not classy but I love me a tuna noodle casserole about once a month through the fall/winter/spring. I mix al dente rotini, two cans of tuna, two cans of Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom, frozen peas, corn and edamame in a large casserole and sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Bake at 350F for half an hour with a lid on, 10 minutes uncovered. Add salt and pepper to taste when you are mixing it up.
TR, wouldn't you have to pay extra for nitrous? Patsy Baloney, my dentist doesn't know I'm "afraid" per se- he knows I hate everything related to teeth though, lol. He did already explain the procedure to me. I can probably survive without the Xanax, was just wondering if it would take the edge off a little. I wouldn't have to drive home immediately, my parents live in the same town as my dentist and I could stick around a bit until it wears off.
isabel I buy a box of shells, a jar of vodka cream sauce and a ball of mozzarella cheese. I cook the shells, toss half the bottle of sauce in with the noodles, then chop up the ball of mozzarella in to small cubes. I put the shells in a 9x13 pan, add sauce and sprinkle with cubes of mozzarella. Bake at 425 (I think) for about 45 minutes. Easy, delicious, and usually a kid pleaser.
Chicken noodle casserole. We just tweaked the Better Homes and Gardens tuna noodle recipe and swapped out the tuna for chicken. We use cream of chicken soup b/c I'm allergic to mushrooms, toss in a decent amount of parmesan cheese and garlic powder and it is a quick and tasty meal.
beerlover I've had cavities filled without Novacaine before and it wasn't that bad; it was more annoying than painful. That being said, the only time it has hurt was when they had to do shots on the roof of the mouth. If they have to do that, ask them to numb the area before the shot; they should be able to swab it with a bit of novacaine. Will your dentist allow you to wear headphones or earbuds? If so, that might be a way to help calm your nerves since you can block out some of the noise.
I’m a germaphobe and wash my hands a million times a day plus Clorox wipes and germ-xing. The only thing that saves my hands is to slather them in Aquaphor or O’Keefe’s and put on cotton gloves while I sleep.
Before I did this I would have bright red wrists and hands with bleeding knuckles. My hands are 100% soft and pretty as long as I keep this up.
I actually have a basket of cheap $1 gloves that I cut the tips of the thumb and pointer finger off so I can mess with my phone in bed.
alleinesein I’ve had the shots to the roof of the mouth before when I got my gum graft. That was the worst!! I’ll see about the headphones, that might help.

Is it reasonable that my daughter would get 14 cavities in a 9 month span?
I'd been taking her for 3 month scaling and fluoride because things were bad with her braces, which she got off in August (and has been for a scaling since then). She hadn't had a panoramic since 2014. Her last bitewing was in April 2019.
I was so upset and not sure if I should be... Is this reasonable for a 14 year old? Should I get a second opinion?

But, my mom sent me some nail polish things from Color Street that a woman she knows is selling, and I actually like them a lot. They are strips made of real nail polish but you just stick them on your nails and somehow they adhere and actually stay on. They are similar to a no chip manicure, but you can get 2 manicures out of them for $11 and it only takes like 15 minutes to put them on, they are "dry" immediately. They have a lot of wacky patterns but also solid colors. I put on some grey ones a week ago Wednesday and they are still looking pretty good, minus the outgrowth. I haven't bought any with my own money yet, but I may be tempted when I run out of the ones my mom gave me.
Color Street is the same exact product they sell at Walmart under the name Incoco, for a fraction of the price. They make no qualms about it either, rather they try to talk up "the experience" of buying from an associate, and an expanded and more unique selection. Same exact stuff, quality wise.

I have some nice things from PC and I used to love Tastefully Simple parties. I am not here for the bags because of the overt religious shit. That alone keeps me away. I think MLMs really took a turn for the worse with the explosion of social media. No one has ever added me to a spammy FB group for PC or TS - I may get an occassional online party invite but never that awful, incessant, lie-filled cult drivel you get with all the newer MLMs. My level of disbelief in how people still sign up for this shit and think that it's going to be successful is right there with my disbelief in how people think Trump is a good person. There seems to be a lot of overlap with those two groups but that's a post for a different day
Anyway, I would probably use an inferior product rather than an MLM bc I am spiteful and think they are a scourge on society.

I would get a second opinion. Had there been any big change in her eating/drinking/oral (e.g chewing on non food objects?) habits?

I would absolutely get a second opinion.
In college, I went to a dentist who said I had like 8 or something. Went to a different dentist who wanted to fill one, watch a couple, and said the others were fine. The couple they watched never turned into cavities.

The only change to her dental health is that she had her braces removed last fall.
She definitely has 'problem teeth', which is why i was taking her for 3 month scaling and fluoride while she had braces. I just feel like they should have caught some of these before now. But maybe that is not a reasonable expectation. As a non-dental professional, I don't know how fast decay can happen, YKWIM?
I will get a second opinion. But even if they agree, I guess I still don't know if they could have avoided some of this pre-emptively by recognizing the issues earlier. I don't want to penalize our regular dentist by going somewhere else to have the work done unless I am justified in doing so...

You said 9 months in your post. Is she seeing her dentist every 6 months? I do think with routine visits and additional maintenance, they should have caught this and done more to prevent the cavities from forming. I do wonder if having braces is making that harder though. It’s tough to clean effectively around that stuff.
I had problem teeth as a kid too. They used to coat my teeth in a sealant. You should look into that and see if it’s an option for her. It helped a lot with preventing cavities.

Her last dental exam with bitewings was end of April 2019, 9 months ago. but she has been going every 3 months for scaling and fluoride. She was initially scheduled to see her dentist in early December but we were at our 2019 annual max because of all the cleanings. So, I rescheduled to early Jan, which we ended up having to reschedule again, which brought us to early Feb. So maybe it's my fault for the delay, it would have been 7 months, not 9.
She absolutely has always gotten sealants as well, which apparently didn't help very much.

ETA: edited to correct my statement.
That’s really frustrating.
I would get a second opinion and give them the timeline. It might give you peace of mind to hear from another dentist what they think about the preventative measures.

Good to know. I don't know anything about the MLM company, I was just surprised the actual product has been good quality.

I’ve seen them at Ulta, too. Ulta usually has solids and less “exotic” patterns.
What is everyone using as a fitness tracker these day? Don't say an Apple watch, too expensive.
My really old Fitbit One is dying, and even though it only tracks steps, I like it because I can pop it in my pocket or clip it to my bra (I don't use the step tracking on my phone because I don't carry my phone around with me everywhere, like when I'm cleaning).
I like the idea of something with a heart rate monitor for when I'm riding my bike or doing a HIIT workout, but in addition to thinking an Apple watch is too expensive, I just in general find watches extremely uncomfortable, even when they are small. Fitness watches all seem too huge and bulky to me. Am I wrong? Are there other options? I haven't really looked.

Yeah i am not into nail art (fine for others, but I prefer a more reserved look). I just looked up the Wal-Mart and Ulta selection online and it is mostly glitter and patterns, so maybe I'll have to try in store if they have solids.
The packaging is exactly the same as the MLM, which is weird! You would think they would try to look different!

I bought a blue glitter pair a while back and never used them because I felt like they were too wild for me. Sally Hansen had a similar product (with patterns and solids) that I used all the time for my toes. I loved having fun patterns on my toe nails and I have no idea why they stopped making them.
