Back when Italy first quarantined a city, I realized we had one extra roll left in the house. So I bought a 14 day supply that I'm not letting dip below 5-7 days worth except as shortages require. (Not a full Costco size pack, but still larger than a six pack)
I knew when the panic hit, some supplies would be gone and I'm not willing to go without TP.Â
This is where I am. I saw what was happening in other places in the world, and know how the basic person acts here with a minor snowstorm... and stocked up early.
Same. I have 2 large packs (not costco sized but larger than usual) of tp that I bought about 2 or 3 weeks ago because I saw this coming.
We have plenty of TP, but I just opened the last pack of baby wipes and suddenly I'm having some anxiety. We should still have plenty because we have at least 4 open packs scattered throughout the house. Also daycare is closed and I use way less than daycare uses, but all of a sudden I'm anxious about it. LOL But also, if I told H to run out to Costco for more wipes I think he'd kill me so we're just going to deal with what we have on hand. Normally we have at least a full case on hand at any given time, but I was waiting for a sale which they seem to do twice a year. I think I need to step away from the news because I know rationally we still have plenty and will be fine.
@ Use baby washcloths, wet with water from the sink. I actually fill a peri bottle with water and squirt each one as needed. It's what I use with E2. I only use disposable wipes when out of the house, or if there is a really nasty poo. If you use the washcloths for poo, then hold firmly by a corner, dunk in the toilet. Swish a bit, then flush. That gets the poo off and they're clean enough to go in the washing machine.
We always buy the big thing at Costco. It is more cost effective and then we don't have to worry about running out. I am happy we bought it in February so I wouldn't be judge lol.
I had a credit from Grove and decided to try their bamboo paper (which is more environmentally friendly than standard TP and is packed without any plastic), so I bought like 4 big boxes of it a couple of months ago. Given I'm the only woman in my house, it is going to take us probably 6+ months to get through this stuff. We good. But, like you, I am silently pleased that I don't have to buy toilet paper so I won't be judged.
I ordered 4 boxes of Grove's TP (24 rolls) and it came in yesterday. For a family of three, it lasts for a good month.
I bought two giant packs of TP a couple weeks ago before panic set in and the shelves were still stocked. I probably overbought, but honestly I have no idea how much TP is needed to last 4 people at home for several weeks. And at the time we were down to zero extra rolls at home.
Plus, we were all just super sick with the worst colds and gave up on tissues and went through so many rolls of TP to handle the massive amounts of snot coming out of our noses. So I was thinking if we were home AND sick, we could go through a lot- now that we know more about coronavirus, it seems like I didn't need to worry about congestion so much.
Basically everyone knows it is ridiculous but can't stop themselves. But "Danny"'s response is legit killing me.
VICE: Hey Danny, why are you buying all this toilet paper? Danny: Because we're all idiots. Legit.
That article is awesome.
I liked this part: If you thought the world was going to end, why would you need to have a clean ass? I don’t get it.
I feel like the answer is, because our mothers always told us to make sure we have clean underwear in case something bad happens to us and we end up in the hospital. Like, maybe there's some subconscious connection between having a clean undercarriage and being prepared for the worst, lol.
The psychology behind it is so true. I have a pack of TP at home, but today at Whole Foods I was tempted to buy some of the single rolls that were left for no reason whatsoever. Just seeing the mostly empty shelf except for those few rolls made me want to buy it.
Yes! I kept checking how much we have, even counted it earlier (>30 rolls of Who Gives A Crap, which each last a long time), and I was still nervously wondering if we should order more.
@@@ On top of that, we cloth diaper, and could totally use our diaper sprayer and her cloth wipes for ourselves if we really really needed to, so it makes zero sense to want to order more! @@@
Counting them all today finally made me calm down though, which is good because according to their website, WGAC has totally sold out anyways 😂

Ya'll, I'm never getting any TP. It just started snowing here and the Costco next to my work sold out in 7 minutes. People were lined up for 45 minutes before it opened.

DH is visiting his 97yr old aunt right now. She lives in a really nice senior condo alone, (her H is in the memory care unit there), and she has a small closet off the dining room that DH said is half full of toilet paper. I think he said that the rest was paper towels.
She was at Target a few weeks ago and had almost spent enough to get a $30 Target gift card, so she added a pack of toilet paper that has 24 mega rolls, just so that she could get the gift card. She already had enough to get her through at least a month or two at home, so she will definitely not run out. lol
At whole foods, one woman in the produce section was talking on her phone about not being able to find toilet paper anywhere, and it seemed like most other people outside of that section had it in their carts. I hope she managed to get to the paper aisle before they ran out.

I went to the grocery store on Wednesday. The paper aisle was the first place I went. Priorities!
I almost cried in Target today. I'm in a colitis flare and really need TP (and a lot of it). I checked stock this morning before going and they actually had a bunch of diff options and by the time I got there everything was gone.

Oh no! I'm so sorry and can only imagine how this feels. I don't think you're near me, but if you're in the greater Seattle area I'd be more than happy to share what I have on hand.

Here is what you do. As soon as you wake up, before your local store opens, place an order thru the target app for in-store pickup. Your order will get picked before the hoarders can get in the door and buy everything up. Then you can simply stop in when it is convienent for you.
I went to Grocery Outlet and they had normal supplies of most things, but were completely out of TP. I overheard the cashier tell a customer that they were expecting to get some in this afternoon. The customer said she'd already tried Sams and Walmart.
People are nuts. ETA: by "people", I mean the people causing shortages by hoarding it - not people who legitimately need some.

Yeah it seems like the bodegas and small shops are pretty stocked up here so I'm not sure why I even looked! The mind plays crazy tricks on you. And if things really do actually get dire I have no sham in using wash cloths. I'll be working through all this anyway, so can do my business at work too haha.

My daughter found tp at Home Depot. She bought it online and picked out up later.
Last I looked, Reel toilet paper (similar company to Who Gives a Crap, bamboo paper) still had the ability to order on their website in case anyone is almost out and cant find any.

Good idea, but they weren't allowing it for pickup as of last night I'll check again, or see if any other local stores allow it.

She has Crohn's, and it was a concern for her.
Huh hadn't thought of there. I'll check, thank you. I'm probably good for another week but freaking out there won't be any if this keeps going. And my thoughts are with your daughter, this is a horrible time for us

Another option, Lowe’s or Home Depot online
Thank's to you too, I never would have thought of those places

For those who need it, if you are near a sporting goods store, they have some toilet paper typically in the camping section. It is pricier than normal but it is an option.

ETA: to fix spelling that made no sense
I'm in the Chicago suburbs, but thank you you are so sweet. Luckily my best friend is a neighbor and said she's here if I have an emergency. I hope it doesn't come to that though.

because there wasn't any in stock. The trucks come in overnight so that is why you have to order in the AM. That way the truck has been unloaded but the doors have not opened yet for others to buy it.

If you have medical devices that need water, like my H’s cpap that needs distilled water, grab some of that as well. Regular works if we have to, but it creates mineral build up.
