Apparently here it is library books. Seattle Public Libraries is shutting down after today and I guess it was pretty crazy at our neighborhood library today. Shelves being cleared by mid day.

I’m glad I stocked up on some because we thought we were going to be out of town/. Major disaster for me. I probably need to go get some stuff for the kids.
I stocked up on general sickness stuff a few weeks ago. I’ve gone to the store a few times over the past week or so and picked up random extra non perishables each time. I found powdered pedialyte, so got some of that and a little more Gatorade than we usually have on hand. I went this morning before work again assuming there’d be a run if schools canceled today, and I was right. I got extra all-purpose cleaner, some more canned soup and random snacks, yogurt and hummus. I also got coffee, powdered creamer (if we run out of milk, I cannot drink black coffee), hand lotion, baby wipes and some activities/stuff for DS. Our neighbors have chickens, so we have access to eggs.
SO is going to a local poultry farm tomorrow to get our usual case of frozen chicken, and I have another list for him if he finds a store with food left (pb, easy sides for dinner, block cheese, frozen juice concentrate, ginger ale, cereal if there’s also milk).
He went to the state store tonight when he saw the grocery store parking lot, and came home with a large bottle of bourbon and ONE bottle of wine (wtf?!).
I have standing amazon orders out for pet food and litter, hopefully they come.
I found alcohol swabs. I'm pretty sure they were only still there because they were on the bottom shelf and way at the back and I basically had to crawl into the shelf to get them, but we should be good for a while.
Dh also found some of the black nitrite gloves in the size I need on amazon. He did say it took some hunting to dig through the very overpriced glove options.
Today while shopping I noticed these things were all gone - ramen tissues ibuprofen ground beef flavored sparkling water Poptarts tea bags for iced tea - this one almost sent me into a panic, but I finally found some
I’m having feelings about this. I’m thinking of my staff and patients who can’t afford to stock up. What happens when they legitimately need something? I don’t want to go crazy buying stuff just because but I guess I will have to go shopping tomorrow for some things.

We’ve had lots of postings locally to support the local food pantry. We also have a few “Little Free Pantries.” I bought about an extra week’s worth of dinner and some cereal and put it in one. I felt like a hoarder at the store, but I was helping stock someone else’s pantry. When I went back to the location the next day, all of the stuff was gone already. I’m going to reassess what we have here and probably drop off some more (my pantry is generally well-stocked anyway, but my anxiety told me I needed to get a little more).
Alcohol wipes, like the kind you use before an insulin injection.
They already seem to be getting hard to find. We thankfully have some and I asked mil to grab a box if she sees them anywhere, but I'm planning to go look for them today. We go through a lot right now between dh's insulin and one of the medical treatments we're doing at home right now.
Tons of folks on disabled Twitter are desperate for alcohol wipes and the like, but it’s all gone or going for 100x it’s usual asking price.
You can freeze shredded cheese as well - if you’re going to use it in melted form, like enchiladas or soup or whatever. I got one of those 4 pound bags of cheddar from Costco that I’ll divide into 1 cup increments.

Stores are always restocking. I haven't heard anything about manufacturing shortages or delivery delays so hopefully stores will get more things daily. I suspect that since many families are planning to hunker down for a couple of weeks, they bought up everything over the past couple of days and aren't planning to make grocery runs this week which hopefully means shelves not getting cleared so fast.

Some of that seems to already be happening. Two days ago, TP was out EVERYWHERE. As of today, several places have it. I suspect sanitizer will be the same thing soon.

I thought about swinging by the library but I got busy on Friday with other things and didn't before KCLS shut down too. One of my friends down in Portland posted a picture of her daughters and all the things they checked out - it was probably close to 100 items of books and DVDs. I have two books currently checked out, but in hindsight I wish I would have picked up some writing books.
eclaires post is also making me realize that I have flour (a thing sold out at my stores), but I didn't think to check on my yeast supply (or buy more). I also don't have any lard or shortening to make tortillas. I suspect I'm fine though, I have plenty of bread in the freezer, including homemade pretzel buns and pepper jack rolls, so I don't actually anticipate making a lot of my own bread any time soon.
Another weird thing out at my store - English cucumbers.

@@@@@
For now, I’ve been pretty impressed at the generosity of people in my community. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts of “we found TP, let me know if you need any!” Or “I’ll have a cooler of sack lunches on my porch for any kiddo or adult that needs one.” Honestly with people out of work and what I’m sure will be a childcare shortage soon, I think coming together as a community is going to be key. Coming together FIGURATIVELY that is, not LITERALLY.

When I told my coworkers that I had found some and mentioned that I had pulled the remaining boxes up to the front of the shelf so other people would be able to see them (they were at the back of a bottom shelf) they were genuinely surprised that I hadn't bought them all. I just bought what we would need for the next couple weeks. I wanted to make sure that others had a chance to buy them too. I knew exactly what it felt like to be frantically searching for them and coming up empty, why would I do that to others if I truly didn't have to?
It makes me sad that people are having such a hard time finding these items.

Yeah. On Wednesday the cold medicine aisle was cleared out at my CVS. 24 hours later, the shelves were full again.
There will definitely be lags when people are sick and can't come to work, or drive trucks to move goods around. I do think that there are probably going to be some log jams. At the same time, hopefully by that point, because many people have stocked up, there ideally won't be as many people in the stores trying to buy all the stuff.
I do think people who are not just buying a reasonable supply of goods for themselves, but stockpiling like they will be locked inside for two years, are selfish jerks.
Two bottles of cough syrup per person should be plenty for most families. You don't need to buy it by the case, FFS. ETA ok technically we have four bottles, two DayQuils, two NyQuils for two adults, but you all get what I mean.
I took my older teenagers grocery shopping yesterday as a normal shopping trip. Usually for a household of myself, 3 teens, and 1 preteen we get about a cart and a half every 10ish days. I wasn’t even going to try to venture to Costco so we went to our local grocery store. It ended up being 2 carts and I was so anxious about people saying anything to me about “hoarding” that I cried 3 times during the 2.5 hours we were there....it was *very* busy. Luckily I had sunglasses with me so I put those on and prob looked like a lunatic but no one said anything negative to me. My eldest daughter ended up bagging groceries for a bit to help out and a couple people offered to help us to my vehicle.
We ended up with the last of the eggs, white store brand bread, hand soap, ground beef, bagged frozen green beans, Campbell’s chunky soup, and potatoes. I’m sure it’ll be restocked soon enough but my kids eat a lot and are on spring break now. 10 more days and I get to do that again.
At work at an assisted living residence we’ve stopped taking bus trips into the local pharmacy so we’ve been pulling straws to see who has to go for essentials not covered day to day....like toilet paper. Luckily I’ve not been asked to go because buying toilet paper for upwards of 100 residents doesn’t sound like a good time.
Many items at my grocery store were labeled with limits, e.g. 4 bread items, 12 cans of vegetables, 4 pastas, 4 sauce, etc. Many shelves were looking pretty bare. We bought some extra shelf stable stuff 2 weeks ago, so I just did a normal plus a bit shopping today. We had to wait in line outside because they were limiting the people in the store. @@@@@@@ I didn't check the pharmacy section, but I'm glad that DH bought a bunch of children's ibuprofen and Tylenol earlier this week, since DS1 got his tonsils out and is going through a bunch of both (we were instructed to dose him every 3 hours around the clock alternating meds). The store brand was already sold out then, so we got Motrin.
Got some groceries at 5AM this morning. Everything was pretty well stocked except the obvious (TP, cleaning wipes, and paper towels). The OTC meds were well stocked. Dry goods were being restocked by employees while I shopped. I was surprised.
It’s a good time to be allergic to wheat apparently: plenty of GF bread available!
The store hours are reducing from 5AM-1AM to 7AM-9PM starting tomorrow.
Liquor stores are closed in our county as of Tuesday. The pictures from state stores today are unbelievable. Worse than the grocery store lines!
ETA: I should clarify that I am in PA, where all liquor is sold through state owned stores. My county and surrounding counties are on full lockdown of all nonessential businesses. State announced last night that you had 2 days to stock up on liquor before they shut down. State owned parks are also shutting down.
Last Thursday we were out of cat food so we went to the grocery store to buy a bag. I knew I had lots of flour at home but haven’t bought yeast in a while, so I bought some packages of yeast. I thought I was being ridiculous for buying yeast in case we were trapped inside without food and surviving on freshly baked bread. Now, just 3 days later it doesn’t seem so crazy. And I find it oddly comforting that other people have it on their prep list.
Our stores aren't really busier than normal, but they've been wiped out of some odd stuff.
All of the frozen vegetables are gone - even the stuff people don't use as often. Pizza is still there. Chicken is all gone, beef is still there. Tomato sauce is gone but the nice san marzano tomatoes are still there (yay for me). Ginger - gone (really folks?). Flour is gone. I guess this one I don't get. What's the plan here? I was under the impression that most people don't actually bake (or cook, for that matter) so...why hoard the flour? I'm mostly just irritated cause I was hoping to get a sourdough starter going again since I'm going to be home so much. Anyway. Stores get restocked daily. And I understand not going to the store often but like...do you use flour on a regular basis or were you just told to stock up so you did? I'm just curious what people are intending to do with the stuff they stockpiled.

Vent over.
Most people don’t bake because they’re busy. If you’re stuck at home for weeks on end baking is more reasonable. And it’s a great way to cheaply make food, particularly when other things are out of stock.
@ entertain kids. We baked yesterday, it’s a great way to keep the kids busy for an hour.

Well, the next TP here is aloe and witch hazel lol.
That stuff is gone.
Other than that, honestly right now, I was able to find everything we needed..but I'm not beginning to make my own bread or anything like that. The flour and sugar were gone but..OK.
