My step son had his wisdom teeth removed this morning and is at our house this weekend. How long is it normal to bleed and how long? We didn’t get a whole lot of instruction from his Mom. They were removed around 10:30 this morning and we’re still changing his gauze every 30 minutes. Is that normal? We’re still seeing very red blood, not pink. I’m googling that unless his mouth is filling with blood to the point that he can’t talk then he’s okay, but I’d love to hear from real people. Thanks!
Is he bleeding the same amount as morning? Is his gauze soaked enough for you to have to change it every 30 minutes? Wouldn't hurt to give his dentist a call.
I’m sorry I don’t remember, I don’t remember bleeding for that long, but it was 15 years ago. But I got physical chills just remembering the gauze in the mouth.
DS1 had all of his removed a few months ago. It was a three hour drive and 3 of the 4 were pretty much done bleeding by the time we got home. The bottom left kept bleeding and he got fed up with the gauze and just got rid of it. He wound up with a dry socket. I would keep the gauze and check with his dentist.

When I had all mine removed last month they told me to bite down on the gauze for 30 minutes then I could take it out. I didn’t have any bleeding after the 30 minutes. I would call the dentist and get proper instructions. Maybe try their website, they may have info there.

My instructions a few years ago were similar to this.
DH bled longer than I expected when he got a wisdom tooth removed last year (he was told the same thing as ginandjucie24). It was probably a few hours. But he was not soaking through gauze that whole time, just initially, even though it was still bright red when we would change it. If he's still soaking through gauze, I would definitely call. That doesn't seem right.
It wouldn’t hurt to call the dentist, however a little blood can look like a lot of blood when it comes to the mouth. They also might recommend he hits on a teabag, that can help. But I would call.
