So we have a 2 year contract with our nanny that lasts till October. Now with DH unemployed probably for a long time and me WFH and probably having a decrease in income (40% of my comp is based on bonuses, which...will not happen), we really don't need her. She hasn't been to work since Thursday when she has developed a cough/sore throat and we are waiting for her to get her COVID-19 results back. But even if she tests negative, I'm a little worried about having her come in/out of the house as she lives with a pretty large family. I don't want to lay her off as that'd be hard for her financially, but do you think reduced hours is reasonable in these circumstances? Honestly I don't even know how that'd work as I honestly just want to huddle down with just DH and the kids and see no one else. I'm also not sure if I'm over-panicking....
I’m skeptical that this will be behind us anytime soon and that schools will reopen at all this year. If I didn’t need her I would probably just terminate her and give her a nice severance. But I think we’ll know more in the next couple weeks so you could just wait fo make a decision.
I’m hoping we follow what happened in China in that it is a 2 month lockdown but they get control of it and start opening things up again. Once you go back to work will you need her? If so, then I think reduced hours make sense.
