Diary of a wimpy kid, mouse and the motorcycle, and Chitty. Chitty Bang Bang. The latter 2 were recently recommended by my 1st graders teacher as having high lexicon scores.

My 1st grade loves Heidi Heckelbeck series. Heidi’s little brother also has his own series Henry Heckelbeck but looks like a lower reading level than Heidi (more like a kindergarten reading level)
Critter Club was a big hit with my older kid when she was in 1st grade.

Perfect! I have a kinder who wants to read a series but is tired of Pete the Cat and Clark the Shark.

Just an FYI... Audible has free kids books for streaming for the pandemic. Not helpful for practicing reading, but my kids love listening to audible, while they do other things, and they have many of the same benefits, as reading. You can't download, as far as, I can see, but you can stream them through any browser, no sign up necessary.
