TP is back in stock in my area, thankfully. All the hoarders have hoarded by now I guess.
What I need is a thermometer. I have one but it seems to always be low and I worry it's not accurate. I haven't been able to find one in stock online, other than the amazon china brands which I don't trust.
One thing to point out is not everyone is hoarding. Lifestyles have suddenly changed overnight, and there's more demand for certain items in the home.
@@ My sister has 5 kids who are normally in school. She is going through a LOT more TP having 5 more people at home 24/7.
Working adults are also now at home, and not using industrial TP provided by their workplace.
Same with food. A lot of kids who would be eating hot lunch are now at home eating sandwiches. Same with those working from home now. Think about all of the people who would go out for lunch, grab lunch from their corporate cafeteria, etc. They are all now eating at home. This is one of the reasons bread, TP, and other staples are flying off the shelves.
If you want to drive into New Jersey, I’ve seen posts from one of my local FB groups that the Costco in Wayne had some yesterday. If you are ever planning on coming over here let me know and I can check the group for you. I’m in Essex County.
No people aren't hoarding now, because there's nothing left to hoard, because the hoarders bought it all up. I'm waiting for the inevitable "I've got TP for $10 a roll" posts to start in local groups.
I just need to get my ass up early for my weekly grocery trip tomorrow and hope for the best.
I am still beyond annoyed and angry that this is even a thing.

I’ve been trying to put this in words for a while. People aren’t checking out with 200 rolls of TP or buying 20 bags of flour. It’s just that more people need these items.
I guess it just makes people on FB feel better to think of someone sitting on a horde of TP than that there are consequences of shutting down and disassembling paper mills and that all their neighbors are struggling. It’s the same people who say ‘I don’t mind the ones who need it getting welfare, but there are so many on it who are lazy scammers trying to take my hard earned money to buy drugs.’
I just ordered some on Amazon like 15 minutes ago. It looks like they are already sold out, so I guess it's just luck? I've been checking regularly for a while. I hope my order doesn't get cancelled.
I bought us a pack and also shipped a pack to my parents (who live next door to my sister).
Office stores? Dollar stores? Smaller grocery stores as opposed to big chains— surely they have those where you are? White Hen, 7-11, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, CVS? Gas stations? People have also been finding needed foods at Asian or Indian grocery stores, so maybe there?
😖
Nope, nothing.
I’ve called Sam’s, HMart, CVS, dollar store is closed, Home Depot has nothing, the bodega at the bottom of the hill I dropped in and they said they haven’t had it for a month. All office stores are closed because it’s non-essential, so that’s not an option.
Have you tried instacart? Some grocery stores have it sometimes. As expected there is a fair amount on ebay if you're really desperate. Amazon has random stock. I actually just found some and it was not there yesterday.
If you have brown sugar i might be up for a trade. I can't find that anywhere.

We can't get any delivery or curbside pick up orders out here. It sucks. I have yet to find TP. I did manage to find 2 pathetic rolls of paper towels and some "flushable" wipes at Target last weekend.
I've been stalking the Costco website because we need to do a Costco run and nothing is opening up and nothing is in stock.

I noticed the last time I went to Costco, they had huge signs up saying the would not be accepting returns on TP, Clorox wipes, paper towels and bottled water. I was happy to see it and hope it will help with the over buying. It’s almost impossible to buy here and I’m not willing to go out daily to risk looking.

Haven't needed it yet (stocked up on TP at Costco a week or two before shit hit the fan just by chance), but we have local FB groups with store employees posting when they're about to get a new shipment, and DH has said the local delis have them the couple of times he's gone (he was looking out of curiosity while picking up a couple of other things).

There are absolutely people who are hoarding.
Not everyone is hoarding of course. My parents were out of the country for 5 months and are self isolated. They had nothing in their house. I did a huge shop for them and I’m sure people thought I was hoarding. I was not.
But I find it hard to believe the multiple ladies I saw run the back fo Costco to fill their carts right as the store opened really need that much toilet paper unless they are running a shelter of some kind. I’m so glad stores started limiting items to a reasonable amount of 2-4 items.

I was very happy when I saw this. They have a phenomenal return policy, but good for them with this.
OP and others: We have some restaurants who are able to order TP and other basics through their restaurant supply (Sysco was one mentioned) and are allowing their patrons to purchase it by the roll. Maybe look for something similar?

I don't know....but doesn't Costo cater to small businesses? I know when Sam's Club first opened the only way you could be a membership was to do it as a company (even if you had an at-home business you could qualify through business license or other documentation).
My point is, it should not be surprising that people may be getting paper products from Costco that are not necessarily for personal use.
Most places around me have set a limit on things like TP, disinfectant, etc. I don't know if Sam's or Costco does something similar.

That’s true, they do. I just know that stockpiling has absolutely been reported in my area and our government leaders are specifically telling people not to do it.

Even if people are hoarding, I don't blame them for hoarding.
For awhile now, we've been hearing that if we are exposed to somebody with this virus, we should self quarantine for weeks. Meanwhile, no information has been provided about resources available to people who are self-quarantining. Nothing has been said to the effect of, "If you have to self quarantine, you can call this phone number, and people will bring supplies to your front door."
So of course, people are going to stock up on things that they might possibly need to make it through a lengthy self-quarantine.
When our CVS gets it in, they close the store and only let a couple people in at a time and you’re only allowed to buy 1 paper product. So if I see people gathered outside the store, that usually means they have it. I would try going to CVS or DR at opening every morning if you can? Oddly our local independent grocery store has had it pretty reliably.

I've been stalking Target and just ordered a pack. It says it processed, so I assume that means I'm getting it. It's not my first choice kind, but it will get us through when we run out of "our" kind of tp. I checked multiple times per day and kept enough other items in my cart so I could just click the payment button and get free shipping (so we're getting toothpaste and some pocky/candy for Easter baskets too).

Amazon keeps going in and out of stock. I would keep checking. Try setting up a deal alert on slickdeals. They have been posting when they are in stock.
