I broke the news to DD over the weekend that it looks like no gymnastics probably until closer to her b-day in June. She did not take it well and she seems has given up hope. She was conditioning like crazy each day. So far this week she did a 20 minute video and did the activities with little motivation or energy. I'm just letting her mourn right now. The worst part was the park district laid off the entire gym staff so no hope for online zoom group workouts.
DS isn’t going to get to do tee-ball unless they play this summer. I’m sad because we anticipated it was probably his last year to want to play.
My kids aren’t getting nearly enough exercise. I’m going to have to start being a hard ass about forcing them to go be active. Especially DS who would rather play video games than literally anything else on the planet.
DD is doing dance through zoom which entertains her but isn’t really that effective.
DS hasn’t figured out that baseball isn’t happening. We have not heard anything from the baseball club, so still waiting to see if they delay or refund our money.
We are mourning the loss of our summer swim season. It sucks. Even if we get back to the pool (June 1 at the earliest) there is no way they can train in time for summer championships. At this point we just hope they can get back in the pool and train together. The kids could really use their friends and some activity at this point.
Our soccer club is doing strength training twice a week and team training that you’re supposed to do 30 minutes a day and an online “class” session once a week for an hour. It’s ridiculous. The kids are 8. Ds is watching the strength training and playing for about 60-90minutes twice a week with dh. The online theory class is pointless with the boys.
Our gymnastics place is posting videos of the teachers saying hello and coloring sheets. Nothing gymnastics related. So... Sports are done in our house. Oh well. I don't really care, it's just a kid fun class. They play outside for exercise.
I’m so sad that DD1 is missing softball season. She loves softball. If she goes to camp, she can’t play summer ball, and I can’t find a fall ball league around here. Losing a whole year really sucks.
I’m super annoyed about DD2’s soccer club. They keep taking my payment, and it’s been radio silence since everything got locked down. It’s $1900 over the course of the year!! Send us some drills or something!!
DS's travel baseball coach sent an email last night that they will start doing weekly Zoom meetings (for a portion of what was their normal practice time). I was so happy they will stay connected regularly, and I actually get to put something sports-related on the calendar!!
We got DS a Dribble Up basketball for him to use to practice and refine his dribbling.
We are still trying to get out a couple times a week to a park close by that has baseball diamonds and practice as a family.
I am still holding out hope for some kind of Little League season for both DS and DD, even if it's only a few weeks long, that would be better than nothing.
My oldest has been doing daily dryland workouts on Zoom with her swim team. She is running outside using a plan from her track coach. She is starting to realize that this isn’t ending soon. Ohio Swimming had originally hoped to have our Short Course JO makeup in June, but that was dependent on returning to practice on May 1, which seems unlikely. If practice starts by June 1, they will move long course championships to August. If not, long course is a wash.
My youngest was so close to starting on the swim team, but without regular lessons will probably regress. She is doing a Zoom dance class but is upset that there won’t be a recital.
