Also, one kid just locked the other outside during recess and I told her that locking a child out is illegal and we could get arrested, so she can't do it again. This seemed to have an impact, lol.
Mine are a lot more short tempered than usual at the moment. Arguing is normal, but biting each other and pulling hair isn't, and that what my 6 year old has started doing to my 8 year old.
It's their birthdays this weekend and I am looking forward to the new legos that will appear - hopefully that will buy me some peace and quiet

I feel like DH is getting the short end of this distance learning disaster. His office is on our main floor and mine is in the basement... So unless he's unavailable, he's the one DD goes to for any help.
This is still killing me. I need school to open again. Even if it's half days or a couple days a week.
I just threatened to tattle on mine to her teacher so things are obviously going well....
I wish she knew how good she has it. She only has about 10 minutes of school to do a DAY. One subject a day. And it's all review. But she throws fits and freaks out and it take 3x longer than it should.

I don't understand the obsession of DD1 and her friends to give tours of their houses over Messenger Kids. It's like the first thing they do when they chat - "Hey wanna see my house??"

Also it was a terrible idea to read Oh Crap! I am now deathly afraid of PTing DD2. Damn this book really shames you when you don't PT before the magical age of 30 months. It convinced me to not PT this coming week since we'll be doing some Easter activities, so next weekend it is.

I never read the book.
But I also didn't PT any of my 3 kids prior to 3....well the last kid did it himself at 33 months but he was an anomaly and I didn't plan on doing it until after 3. I can't remember but I'm pretty sure I didn't do 1&2 until closer to 4. It was SO much easier when they could understand me better than a 2 year old.

I’ve never read it, so take this with a grain of salt, but that book is just one of thousands of “methods” to use. People have been potty training their children for MILLENNIA before it was written. You’ll figure out what works best for your kid.
My kids role-reversed. My ADHD, hates school 11 year old is killing it in online school - she's attending classes, doing all her work. My easy going, independent, self-motivated people pleaser 9 year old HATES online school and is refusing to do anything.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

1000% this. I did both my kids right around 3, and neither of them took more than a couple of days, and we were not hardcore. They were just ready.

This meme made me laugh, as it’s exactly what I envision my kids doing as well as many other children.

If it makes you feel better, I tried to PT DD1 before the 30 month window "closed" and it was a total disaster. We did the three day method and she completely stopped going at all, other than dropping massive amounts of pee on our floor once a day. That kid has an iron will (and still does at almost 6!). We ended up backing waaaay off and didn't try again until around her third birthday.

Glad it’s not just mine because I about had a temper tantrum of my own this morning. Your teacher is talking —stop walking around the house!!! Sit!!! Listen!!

I decided to PT this week and he’s having poop success but zero pee success so far. So basically I’m just cleaning puddles and I want to give up.
I heard DD1 (5) crying in her room after bedtime last night, so I went in to check on her. She told me she was crying because she's scared of earthquakes.
She's a pretty sensitive kid in general, so it makes sense to me that she's feeling some anxiety in general right now, and we watched Brave yesterday, which may have been a bit scary for her, but...earthquakes? I told her that there are no big earthquakes in the part of California where we live, which is basically true, and she calmed down and hasn't brought it up again.
Velar Fricative we will have to completely re-potty train. C just does not give a flying F now that we are home all the time. I changed four dirty pull ups on Monday. FML.
So I emailed my DD's teacher to ask for a pep talk since DD keeps melting down over the online learning and the teacher has to check with the district to see if they are allowed to communicate with individual students. Our district is taking equity issues VERY seriously, which I think is great, but wow, what a tough spot to be in for teachers.

We have 7 districts within 20 minutes of us. It is incredible to see the differences in what’s being done, and sad to see how this is going to be quite a difference and leave a lasting effect. We have 1 of those 7 doing absolutely nothing. 2 are mailing packets but otherwise no technology being utilized, no checking in on progress, etc.
We are technically on spring break this week, but beginning on Tuesday our teachers have been given the green light for holding students accountable for new material.

THIS. I cannot believe how disinterested in anything learning my school kid is, and my "I couldn't give a shit" teenager is very much get up and get it done. It's weird. It's also eye-opening as a teacher. I should be writing this shit down for next year.

DD did her first class group call last week. For the entire length of the call, I don’t think we went longer than 4 minutes without hearing one parent or another yelling in the background “Get out of here, I’m working! You’re supposed to stay in the kitchen!” or “Why are you showing everyone the house? It’s a mess!”

We potty trained DD1 at 32 months and used the Oh Crap method. It worked, but it was one of the hardest parenting things we've ever done. She figured out peeing in about 2 days, but pooping was a solid 2 weeks. Honestly, being home will make it way easier because the most stressful part was trying to find potties fast enough when we were out after the first few days. So now is a good time for that reason.
However, my friend waited until over 3, maybe 3.5? Ours kids are the exact same age and she had a WAY easier time of it. I kind of regret doing it "early". I think it is all kid dependent, but I wouldn't let the book scare you too much.
Sending so many hugs! It is tough, but once we got through it, it was SO AWESOME to be diaper free. By about 3-4 weeks things got way easier.
usuallylurking I am pretty sure that now that schools are closed for the school year none of the schools in KS can require work be graded.
I have heard that we will change to pass/fail. I really don’t know, and I don’t think teachers or admin know anymore either. WA was very clear that on-site instruction is finished, but school is not closed. He went on to say that access to internet and equitable distance learning is as basic of a human right as access to clean water. So I think we are in this for the long haul into fall at a minimum.

Our schools haven't yet closed for the year but we've been told that there will be no grades during this time and no end of year tests.

Our state tests were cancelled at the first announcement of the closure, which just got extended Friday for the remainder of this school year. Maybe they won’t be grading things, but are still “allowed” to move onto new material? I know our teachers were happy about the state tests “now we get to spend time doing all of the things- the FUN things- that we don’t always have time for!” I have nothing but respect and sympathy for our teachers. They are clearly working very hard with unclear expectations and guidance.
Can I just tell you all how much better this thread has made me feel? My H and I are trying as hard as we can to have our girls (ages 8 and 6) be on some type of meaningful learn at home schedule and we are both woefully inept. We are both trying to WFH, keep our kids engaged in learning, on top of all the other normal day to day stuff like laundry, food prep etc. Can you guess which of all those things get sacrificed first? lol
Somebody tell me that nobody ever failed at life because they missed 1 quarter of school in 1st or 3rd grade.

Definitely not. As I've said to H, it's not like when they're seniors in high school we're going to be saying, "wow, those x months out of school 11 years ago really messed these kids up."
I need my 7 year old to learn to play by himself. He is such a classic youngest child. Always depending on others to provide/entertain him. Also breaking spoiled habits like above really suck when you are with them 24/7.
