It's Friday, I think? They're all blending together...
The kids have no schoolwork today - they finished everything for the week. DD2 has a zoom spanish class later today, and I have to drop off all of her work to her teacher for grading at some point.
DH was a huge jerk last night, and we've not really interacted today. Should be a great weekend.
The counters went in to our kitchen yesterday, and right now the plumber is here hooking up the stove, dishwasher, sink, garbage disposal, and fridge water line. I'm actually going to be able to cook (and clean up after) a real meal this weekend!!!! Woooo!!!
Kids are on spring break next week, so I really need to come up with some good ideas for things to do. We get thrown out of the kitchen again on Wednesday when the floor people come, and we won't be able to get back in until Saturday. So I'm planning to cook a few casseroles this weekend to get us through a few more days in our makeshift kitchen.
Nothing special here. Dh is working so I am trying to figure out what we can do. Baking, movies maybe. The weather is supposed to be ok, but not great. On of my staff is on call, so I anticipate having to pretty much do the work based on his performance since this started.
I miss friends. I am pretty sure some of my friends are getting together since they are neighbors or family, but we are hunkering down. The senior had their gowns delivered yesterday which was sad.
rere - have you done any zoom happy hours with your friends? I kind of poo-poo-ed the idea, but I had one with a few friends last night and I felt 1000x better and less lonely. It’s not the same, but it’s something!
Happy Friday! mae0111, I'm super excited for your kitchen progress! That's amazing!
And I second the Zoom dates with friends. It does make a difference rere. I've also been using the app Marco Polo a TON with my college friends. You can send video messages back and forth to either watch live, or watch later when you have a minute. We've always had a thread going since we live far apart, but we send videos multiple times a day now to just check in and chat.
I have a Zoom coffee date with those same college friends tomorrow morning to catch up. Otherwise, obviously nothing is really going on.
The girls and I will make homemade pizza tomorrow night for dinner for something to do. And they're already planning out which movies we should watch. They're all about making a plan for our weekend movie nights - they talk all week about what movie on Disney+ we should watch next. It's a good distraction for them. I think High School Musical is a top contender this week after the Disney sing along last night. They've never seen it.
I’ve done one zoom happy hour.. I actually get further away from people. It might have been because they started it at 9:30 and I just wanted to sleep. I dunno.
k3am, We found that the mid-day coffee break version is better for all of us. 3 of the 5 people have kids, so we just put the Zoom call on and chat with each other while we do other stuff. No pressure to just sit and stare at each other. The last time we did it, it ended up lasting like 2.5 hours with us all popping in and out and wandering around our houses. No one judges if we're doing chores or dealing with kids.
Yeah I had some friends that wanted to do late zoom happy hours and it was too late for me. I’ve been doing one every Friday at 3:30 pm with one group of friends, and every Saturday night at 8:30 with a few other moms. We’ve also done two couple ones after kids were in bed, and I did one with some coworkers that someone else organized. Every time I’m kind of like ‘ugh, one more videoconference scheduled’ but then afterward I realize I enjoyed catching up.
No big plans for this weekend. I have been wanting to paint our indoor stair bannister. It was originally wrought iron probably 30 years ago and then at some point a previous owner painted it white, and I plan to paint it black again. My paint I ordered from Home Depot is arriving today so I’ll probably start working on it sometime soon at night after kids are in bed.
Oh, and yesterday I won a new client! An investment advisory relationship for a pension fund. It’s not a huge amount of revenue but the only new client anyone at my 200-person firm has won during this weird time (it was a video finals). A board member on another fund I work with had recommended me/our firm, so I also get credit for sourcing it. So that was exciting. And doing a finals by video meant that me being really pregnant didn’t enter the equation

I've done some Zooms and FaceTime with friends. It's definitely better than not being able to see them at all. I keep wishing I'll run into a friend when I'm at the grocery store so we can chat from a distance, but so far, I haven't run into anyone yet.
I don't know if anyone else has seen the Some Good News videos by John Krazinski, but I really enjoy them. Everything is positive and uplifting, which is a nice change from regular news. He started the Some Good News channel on YouTube if you want to check the videos out.
This evening DS has his weekly Zoom meeting with his travel baseball team. It's nice to have one recurring thing on the calendar. This weekend I just hope the weather is nice enough where we can go outside for a while (it's been in the 30s most of the week). I need to get back on track with spring cleaning, but I also would like to finish reading Outlander book #5 (I have about 400 pages to go, so that's a bit of a stretch goal).
Another Friday kick in the butt - my one client just took away 1/2 of my contract and gave it to his ex-wife because he said I wasn’t aggressive enough.
I wasn’t aggressive enough because he ignored all of my requests for information. I couldn’t build a website and a Facebook page without photos of his work, which I asked for and he never sent.
We see our neighbors all the time so I don’t feel like I’m missing the social interaction that much. And one of my besties comes weekly and we walk together - we switch off with one of on the sidewalk and one of us on the street.
I think that’s what I hate about zoom calls. I don’t just sit. I hate sitting. Unless I have a book...
DD started texting with one of her besties yesterday. Then another bestie’s mom sent me her info this morning, so they can all FaceTime and text. They’ve been very funny last night and this morning.
DD puked at 1:00 this morning. We are pretty sure her Chick Fil A just didn’t settle well because she felt fine both last night and this morning. No fever, headache, sore throat (except right after she puked) or any other symptoms. And it was a one episode event. Her biggest question was whether she would be allowed to text her friends and do online school if she’d puked.
I don’t know what we are going to do this weekend. Probably more of the same. Watch movies, take walks in our neighborhood, and cook.

DS goes to his dad's this afternoon so it will be a low key weekend with beau. The weather has been nice this week and is supposed to continue through the weekend, so we plan on hanging out on his deck and going for walks.
The quarantine has just reiterated the fact that I don't have friends that I go and do stuff with. Life hasn't really changed for me and there's no one that I would Zoom call for happy hour. Not a pity party, just life as an introvert I guess.

I have never been more thankful to be an introvert in a family of mostly introverts than I am now. Our life hasn’t changed that much except no kid birthday parties. My kids barely notice a difference in our lives.
k3am I'm the same way in terms of not just sitting. Plus with work being crazy, the 3 kids, and trying to homeschool, I need to use the time after the kids go to get stuff done. So last Saturday night I stuffed Easter eggs while on zoom with friends, and sometimes I fold laundry or clean up the kitchen or whatever while doing zoom on my laptop. My friends seem fine with it
supertrooper1, I'm normally the one in my friend groups who organizes date nights and girls weekends and that sort of thing. I really like to plan and travel. But I've been surprised at my friends who have organized Zoom stuff - they tend to be the last people I'd expect to do it.

We are going on a hike tomorrow during the same slot as some of ds’s fellow cub scouts. So we may see some (from a distance). We’ve been in our house and neighborhood alone for over a month now and driving 15 minutes to the “wilderness” seems like a treat. We have to reserve a parking spot though as they are limiting the number of people allowed hiking each hour. That also feels weird. But I’ve heard the wildflowers are amazing and the waterfall is flowing so we will see.

Oh and we get takeout from locally owned small businesses on the weekends. It’s the highlight of my week because I’m sooooo over cooking and dishes. If I had a dish fairy I wouldn’t mind cooking but dishes are the bane of my existence.

sandandsea, we usually get takeout 3 times a week - at least one time on the weekend, and at least once on a weekday. DH and I are still both working full time and earning full time pay, so it's a blessing we can afford to do that, and that's the least we can do to try and help local restaurants.
We are also on the takeout train. We get 4 dinner meals a week in our box, so those are covered. One dinner is McDonalds. DH cooks one night. The other two are takeout. And lunches (for the adults) a few times during the week.
We are also getting paid in full right now, not paying for daycare or aftercare (to the tune of.. well over $2k), so we've been trying to spend (within reason) to support small businesses. We've actually picked up take up from more small restaurants in the neighborhood than we have in the entire two years we lived here.
Add me to the takeout group. I'm also saving on before/after care and gymnastics costs while still getting a full paycheck, so I'm able to spend more than I normally would on that stuff.
I actually started a list of small businesses that I want to support. Each week I grab a gift card, or get takeout, or something to support them. That way I can budget for it and space it out more easily.
Take out also helps me stretch my groceries so I don't have to go to the store as often.
We are getting takeout from local places. DH will take the kids in the car for curbside pickup several days a week for lunch. And it is amazing, I get some time to work more fully on work tasks without distraction. We have been hitting local places which we would like to still be open once all of this is over. They drive there and back, they all get out of the house, and I get some time alone.
I am fully on board with takeout. We have alternated between our favorite Mexican and the bar and grill that my family used to own and my brother is still the cook. We thought about a steak place next week. They will give you everything to cook your own steaks with their seasoning, plus salad, sides, and rolls. We've also done lunch McD's for the kids and Chick Fil A.

I'm still doing take out as often as I was before. Beau brought take out twice this week because I had busy days trying to work and teach DS and it was a lifesaver. I've also been freezing meals too so I have them ready when I don't feel like cooking and don't want take out since my choices are pretty limited right now. I'm still supporting our local dairy store and have gotten ice cream cones. They can't serve hard ice cream right now, only soft serve. I'm not sure I understand the logic behind that health department decision.
Today is DD and my mental health day. No work, no school, no chores, no expectations. It's been a great day two introverts coexisting in the same house. I actually feel more rested than I have in months and feel like I got some of my sanity back. I also could take a nap right now. I need to go to Albertsons tomorrow for bread, coffee creamer, yogurt, chicken, and wine. Hoping to go in the morning and it not be busy. Other than that staying home and hopefully relaxing.

We are potty training this weekend apparently. Diaper changes have become a huge issue, so I convinced DD to try on panties last night. She peed in the potty and got excited. She woke up not wanting to. I read an article the other day about using sticker charts for the whole family to potty train a stubborn kid. I wasnt planning on starting until Wednesday but after last night I have to start today. Thankfully we had random stickers and now there are 4 sticker charts on the fridge.
I have a photographer driving by for porch pictures this afternoon and it is full blown winter wonderland outside right now. Big flakes falling like crazy.
Feels fitting that these pictures will make no sense haha
We too are doing takeout or delivery. In fact, we are considering doing a takeout run to a Mexican place that will give us margarita kits.
We just a frozen drink kit. It came in a plastic bottle and we actually cut the top off because I found it hard to get the frozen mix out b/c they place had it suuuper cold (so it did stay frozen but still slushy, which is a good thing). Then we dropped it in the blender with the liquor and mixed it up.
You probably didn't need this tip but I found myself staring at the kit like...what's the best way to do this? ha ha
I don't think pour and stir would have been good enough.
We are also doing takeout 2-3 times a week. Saving on aftercare for DD1, commuting costs, and other random spending since we are stopping by target as much or grabbing coffees/lunch out.
