Let’s all celebrate that yeah, we are still stuck at home, but at least there’s no school and work to juggle the next two days. Just have to power through today!
My kids have been clamoring to swim. It’s still really cold. But did I tell you guys DS fell in the deep end of the pool this week? And got himself right back out? So I’m feeling better about letting them go in alone. I’ll be watching them of course, but I can let them freeze their butts off to their hearts’ content.
I recently found that we have a local quilt shop. So I ordered a few cuts of fabric from them that I’m driving through to pick up today with contactless service. I have like 4 quilts I want to make, and buying fabric has just sucked online.
TGIF! I took a half day yesterday and a half day today since the kids are on break and want to hang out. We're building a paper mache volcano to explode this weekend. It's a whole competition with friends and family. We're all going to record videos of our explosions, we have criteria on how big the volcano has to be, how many trees, people, etc... It's been super fun to work on and trash talk with everyone!
And I'm getting the new swing set installed this weekend! Sunday weather looks amazing and the rest of the week is going to be sunny and perfect, so I just want it up and installed, even if it is a month before their birthday. I'm also getting the broken screenhouse (thanks early snow storm back in the fall...) hauled away so I can put up a new one and get the patio furniture out. I need some outdoor living space to get us out of this tiny little house some more.
It’s been a crap week here weather wise, but tomorrow and Sunday are supposed to be bright, sunny, and spring-like (finally!!!). So lots of outside time for us. DH got a new fire pit, so we will have a fire. We will grill some of the meat we just ordered from a local place. It’s great quality and cuts down on my grocery store time. Yard work, continue putting the house back together, fight with the kids about devices... the usual! 🤪
mommyatty, that happened to DD when she was 4. She said look mom, and went off the diving board. You could see on her face halfway down that she realized she forgot her swimmers. I rushed to the side, but she swam over to the ladder. It was great that she could make it, but she still had to practice a lot after before she didn't freak me out.
I have hopes for the weekend. It's supposed to be great for at least 2 days. I am going for walks and runs. Tonight is a fire, wine and a hot dog roast. Tomorrow, I have high hopes of planting my garden. I have tomatoes and need to pick up peppers and squash along with flowers for MIL so that she can have her flowers. Then maybe grill some burgers. Sunday, I hope for a steak dinner. Some of this is dependent on what I actually get from my grocery pick up - I love that I get a list together, and then find out an hour before some of the key elements have been taken out.
On a weird note, one of the HR managers at a meat packing facility offered me some free hotdogs and hams for all of the help I have given them, so there's that.
Exactly mommyatty, I never thought I’d appreciate ONLY having to take care of the 3 kids while 8 months pregnant, but weekends are such a treat when I don’t also have to work full time and help them with school work!
We’ll probably do strawberry picking again since that was so fun last weekend, and make more strawberry shortcake.
Then I’m hoping my parents might offer to take the kids (or a couple of them?) for a couple hours at some point, so DH and I can eat a takeout meal together of something. I’d really like DH to camp with the older kids in the backyard at some point but since I wouldn’t be out there too, and he’s the camping gear guy, I need to figure out how to get him to do it without nagging
Weather finally looks spring-like here too! It will be nice to get outside more. But I'm a bit bummed, because DS was supposed to have had a travel baseball tournament this weekend, and it would've been PERFECT baseball weather (60s and mostly sunny). I'm hoping a few families can meet at a baseball field for the boys to play baseball Saturday or Sunday.
Our Farmer's Market opens tomorrow, so I'm happy about that. We're also getting haircuts tomorrow (although I'm not telling anyone IRL because hairstylists aren't supposed to be working).
This weekend I need to go to the pet store to get supplies for our puppy, which we pick up on Saturday, May 9.
rere- he did intensive swim lessons last summer and was a great swimmer. We were mainly concerned about whether he still had the muscle memory or would need some refreshers. Luckily, his skills stuck!
It’s 10 here and I’ve done no work. The sun woke us all up at 6, and we fell back asleep until 9. So far I’ve cleaned the kitchen that DH trashed, took out the dog, did elearning, and threw (not literally) 2 kids in the shower (separately).
I have a retirement drive by party this afternoon. And this weekend looks nice. Maybe my hammock will get set up.
Technology will be the death of me today. I can't get anything to work. The kids had to attend Mass this morning and I figured that would be a great time to do my shopping list/instacart order. Instead I spent 25 minutes trying to get it up and running for DD1 (fine for DD2), and another 10 breaking up fights when they had to watch together.

It's a weekend with Beau. He wants to take his beagles into the mountains and let them run. I've never gone with him but it should be fun. Then we plan on grilling steaks and a bunch of relaxing.

I had one day where the meeting was capped at 250 people so I couldn’t get in. I didn’t realize that was the problem so I restarted the laptop. It decided to do a 45 minute update. Grabbed the iPad- dead. Grabbed DH’s I-pad- dead. I’m the only one trying to plug them in apparently. Finally I had to call in which worked because I wasn’t counted as the 250 people cap. An hour later I get the email of why I couldn’t get in the meeting.
Another time I could get in but no sound and it was on my end, so I watched on the computer and called in for sound. Face palm.
twinmomma, that sounds super fun! How do you make a paper mache volcano?
I am so excited for the weekend - no work and no school! The weather is supposed to be beautiful here and the state parks are reopening today. I think we're going to pack a picnic and go hiking tomorrow.
Today's our 10 year anniversary. We were supposed to be on vacation in Napa, childfree, and we're obviously not.
So we're both working (because I'm not burning a vacation day for this!), and tonight DH will pickup dinner from one of our favorite date night restaurants and DH and I will dine al fresco on the patio and open a nice bottle of wine from our favorite winery that's stashed in the cellar.
We actually had a really, really good day. Today isn’t a work day for me so I slept in some, girls and I played and did a sewing project, walked, did the minimum of school, and then spent more time outside, and made chalk ice after dinner. It was a good day.
I let the boys have free iPad all day with the exception of one out school class and online soccer practice and in exchange I got some work done. Ds1 spent most of the day playing Minecraft with his cousin several states away and ds2 took a magical highly elusive nap. We ordered take out and I’m watching tv now and taking a break. I’m calling it a win.
mellym super easy to make a basic one! This is a good tutorial. youtu.be/9b_gltKtERY You make it explode with vinegar and baking soda. We are going to test various combos and amounts at the lake tomorrow with beau and his son before we decide on our final, contest worthy concoction. It's been a fun distraction! (And my kids have spent a bunch of time researching YouTube science videos because of it, which is way more fun than their current distance learning, so another win!)
