I'm curious about this, since it seems to be a mixed bag in our neighborhood.
If you're riding a bike just casually around the neighborhood, are you wearing a helmet? (I'm going to assume your young kids are 100% of the time and don't want to know if it's otherwise).
We are currently in the SS camp, since neither of us have bikes. I just bought one today and hope to have it by Sunday. I did not order a helmet, wasn't thinking about it.

I very rarely ride my bike, but if I do I wear a helmet. Don't want my kids to think it is optional or something that is inherently safer for an adult.

All of this. My kids would totally stop wearing helmets if they saw either of us without one.
ETA: I did not know of one person that wore a helmet when I was growing up. Child of the 80’s. No safety features for anything. Seatbelts were also optional for a while there.
Answering for Dh. He never wears a helmet, which aggravates me. That is his chosen exercise. At least he stays on our greenbelt and not on the highway/roads, but still annoys me.
I rarely ride my bike and I don’t wear a helmet. But the kids wear helmets and it’s a good example for them. I just haven’t biked enough lately to buy one. I might have biked 2 times in the last 8 years mostly because DS can’t ride, so we can’t go as a family, and I don’t like it enough to go on my own.

Yup. If we are biking with the kids, we all wear helmets.
If DH or I are out by ourselves and there's no chance that our kids will see us, we don't wear helmets. We never did growing up. But the kids, especially DD, is pretty wild on the bike, despite all that we say to her. So when she takes a bad fall, I'd like to have the comfort of knowing that at least her head is more protected.
We all wear helmets no matter what. My kids know it's the rule, and we don't have to argue with them. They just wear them even though their friends don't.
My mom's cousin was riding his bike around the block on moving day. They were moving around the block. Was not wearing one and was hit by a car. He has been in a vegitative state ever since. I will never ever let my kids ride without one and I always will.
My dad does trialthons and he has crashed during races, been run off the road while training and other things. End the end his helmet is usually destroyed but he walks away a little banged up. Last time he fractured a few ribs and broke his scapula but his head was fine.

Yes I’ve seen and heard of too many crashes where adults get concussions or worse from not wearing a helmet. Better safe than sorry. We also always wear helmets when skiing for the same reason. Growing up we didn’t wear helmets for either but have gotten smarter, or at least smart enough to feel less invincible.
It’s just natural for me to grab my bike and click on a helmet. I store them together.
I only just got a bike in the fall when DS learned to ride and got really interested. DH and I grew up never wearing helmets but started wearing them as an example for the kids. DH still only wears his if the kids are around.
But somehow it has become ingrained for me pretty fast. It stays with my bike and is the first thing I grab. Kind of automatic like the seatbelt in the car.
Kids know that helmets are not optional. I also wear a helmet because I am not a strong rider and don’t trust myself. DH does not which is frustrating. Neither of us wore helmets when we were little.
