DD1s swim team has found a pool at a country club to swim at, as well as an indoor community pool an hour away. Her group will return to the pool June 1st after almost 3 months off. That’s the longest break she’s had from swimming since she was 5 years old! She’s 12 now! Lots of guidelines in place, much smaller training groups, no sharing of equipment, less kids in each lane, no locker rooms. One benefit of swim is that they do most of their exhaling of breath into the water, so that’s a plus. She needs this for her mental health. At 12, she just needs to be around people more. I don’t care if she even gets a workout in. She just needs to be around her friends and coaches and to have some sort of normalcy. Also, her little sisters are driving her bananas! They drive me crazy and I still go to work every day. She’s been with them 24/7 for 3 months!
DD2 can go back to gymnastics later this month, but we’re not ready for that yet. Gym equipment seems too hard to keep clean. She doesn’t seem like she’s missing it all that much. We’ll reevaluate in a month or two.
We won't have anything going on because the soccer leagues were cancelled. The girls wanted to try tennis but that's still closed too. DH is supposed to 'coach' them in the backyard a couple of nights each week but it hasn't happened yet. He used to play in HS and college so I think he will be good at it if he takes some initiative.
Our neighbors are on the swim team and they're excited to get back to the pool next week. It sounds like they have to go after hours for a few weeks and have similar limitations you listed. They don't seem to mind as long as they can swim.

All sports are home sports this year. The girls had some Tennis-style PE drills for distance learning, they enjoyed that so H and my mom might teach them some, dad and I will work with them on their swim strokes (honestly this is every summer). Main goal is to get DD2’s training wheels off. 😉
madringal, outdoor pools can open in phase 2 but no locker rooms We only have 1 outdoor pool in our entire area which is normally open May-October. We live in PNW so 95% the pools are indoor. We have 5 big swim clubs in our area plus a few summer swim leagues that normally fight over the 6 pools so no idea how they are going to fight over 1 pool.
Head gymnastics coach sent an email out stating we should be able to start modified practices June 1st. Only team will be coming back at this point. Our team is about 40 families and she can easily break us up into small groups that don't overlap. DD's level 3 has 8 girls in it, level 4 & 5 have 10 girls, and the rest are at the optional level and I know some girls have already decided to retire because they found life does happen with no gym. We are supposed to get another email by next week explain safety guidelines. DD is beyond happy to get to see her friends IRL again. There are a couple parents in our group that have some serious health issues (MS, Cancer survivors) so DD's quarantine bubble will be the gym, home, and to work with me where she sees no one.
Dance is hoping for 2-3 sessions in the studio with the 3rd session recorded for the recital video.
Baseball will not send out any kind of announcement. I wish they would cancel since I don't see how they can practice or play with a 10 person limit to groups.
Tee ball cancelled weeks ago. I was glad because if they tried to push it to summer in Texas, it would be TERRIBLE. It’s just too darned hot. But I’m sad DS missed his last year to do tee ball. I don’t think he will do machine pitch.
Volleyball is doing Zoom meetings and issuing challenges that they are supposed to video and send it. I really don't know if these indoor sports are even going to be going in the fall. DD is not really upset. She is just hanging out online and doing the challenges. If she had to report to conditioning all summer at 6 am, she wasn't going to play anyway.
I'm not sure what ice skating is planning. We are in the most conservative county with regards to CV in the Bay Area, so I assume that nothing is ever opening up again ever until the people rebel.
Ice skating seems pretty easy.. there's no contact and the kids are pretty spaced out in general, but there's no way there will only be 10 kids on the ice, so my guess is it turns into yet another bankruptcy.
There is talk here about doing high school spring sports this fall starting in August and finishing mid to late October. Normally our October weather is decent. The reason behind it is that all spring sports are down outside and they could have some more time to figure out how to deal with inside sports. Spring sports here are tennis, track, baseball/softball, and golf. These sports also don't bring huge crowds of spectators and could practice with distancing way better than football.
Softball still hasn’t been canceled, which is ridiculous. Just kill it already. I’m not expecting money back because they still had to pay for insurance, uniforms, equipment, etc.
DD2 is supposed to have tryouts for Fall club soccer in a couple of weeks. I can’t see this happening. Sports are phase 2, and they scheduled the tryout for the very first day that phase 2 could possibly happen assuming everything is perfect in phase 1.
To be honest, I’m not looking forward to all of this stuff happening again. The kids have had the best time over the past few days - riding bikes, running through sprinklers, playing hide and seek and just running around with the neighborhood kids. I hate to bring the over scheduling back. The introvert in me appreciates not running from activity to activity.

DS didn't want to play baseball this year (he did want to work in the concession stand though lol) so we aren't missing anything. Our community center usually does activities through the week and I doubt those go on.
The event we are waiting on the final decision for is the 4H fair. IN hasn't canceled the state fair yet so each county that has a fair that aligns with the "back on track" dates is trying to have one. I hope they cancel.

This was supposed to be DS's first year of t-ball starting in late spring but that was cancelled. So far I don't think there is anything sports related that will be going this summer in my area.
mae0111, if something changes for the better, I hope that is it. This uber competitive, all year, sports come before family, friends, and sometimes school has gotten ridiculous. Taking some downtime and doing other things or doing nothing is a good thing. My guess is some of the fanatics have lost their mind, or went underground and are still trying to practice.

Our 4H group just... disappeared. I haven't heard a single thing from the 4H leader since everything shut down. I wonder if we'll even have a group to go back to when this is all over. I have all the supplies and the girls were going to make horse blankets to enter into the fair, but that was like a week before everything closed so we just never did it. I'm assuming no fairs will happen here but they're until the fall anyway.

MIL is a diehard 4H person. I tell her she is a 50 year member. She is very opposed to having it. Not for safety reasons, but for economic reasons. The guidelines are not feasible and I'm honestly worried about the safety of having people wearing masks in our late July humidity. Im afraid if our fair goes on this year it will be the last year because of all of the money that will have to be spent to follow the guidelines.

For sure, we have a few of those on out team. One dad bought his daughter a wet suit and took her to lake Michigan to swim. The water was 42 degrees. He was like, "yeah, it really burned to put her face in the water." Ummm..I bet! That just seems so cruel and unnecessary. Like, why?

One of the families on our swim team set up a pool in their garage and hooked some sort of bungee cord to the wall for their 11 year old.

My 11 year old starts swim next week with lots of restrictions. My youngest will swim on the pre-team, but that won’t start right away. I think it’s because there is an instructor in the water helping with form.
I need to start doing something as I have gained 15 pounds without OTF and my new habit of after dinner cocktails and snacks.

DS would probably like to resume karate but I just do not think so. The studio we go to is not being careful, not even doing minimal cleaning. They're still cleaning the mats once per day and not in between classes. Same with equipment. They say 25 can be in a class and that number is RIDICULOUS. It's a tiny studio with a single mat and you're going to put 25 kids on that?
DD is staying out of gymnastics for now. I don't think she cares about continuing dance and would like gymnastics more than anything but there's too much touching with coaches and equipment : /

That I can get on board with. At least its temp controlled and safe. Swimmers burn off a lot of energy swimming every day, practically year around. So to take it away from them for months with no end in sight, just isn't good for some of them. Either because they need the physical exercise, or because mentally, they need an escape that swimming has always provided. The pop up pools with bungee systems have been very popular. It doesn't replicate swimming laps (at a training pace), but it does give some exercise and a sense of normalcy. Also, they can be done for just a couple hundred bucks.

Racing is starting back up. It’s outdoors and you are always 6ft apart so it’s pretty easy to do social distancing with it. Slowly but surely they’re reopening.
Soccer released some social distancing practice rules so it seems like they’re trying f to get back to practicing but idk when they’d have a game or scrimmage as it seems like that won’t happen for a very long time.
sandandsea swim is the same. Basically just trying to get back to training - meets are probably a long way off. Which is fine by me - my kid just needs to move more and be around some people.
Nothing here. They sent out soccer registration for fall but the email made it sound like they weren't expecting it. My school sounds like if we are open at all, we might have individual sports (tennis, Xcountry) but no team sports
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
The rink just sent out at email about hockey camps this summer. I’m hopeful that means they’re going to reopen and I can get both kids on the ice before DD outgrows her brand new skates.
