Can you imagine the emotions of the crew? Everyone worked so hard in these 3ish hours loading the Dragon and getting ready for take off. We will watch again on Saturday
ETA: I am meaning more of the build up today as far as the emotions. I’m aware it took years of planning for this.
I've been watching for hours! We were going to drive a little farther north to watch (Cape Canaveral is about an hour and a half from us). But the rain here in Florida has been tremendous this past week and my friend lives pretty close and said their forecast did not look promising. Glad they will be safe. I can't imagine the astronauts with all that adrenaline and then being like...nope.

so bummed! But glad they're putting safety first.
I could barely watch when they were waving goodbye to their wives and kids. But couldn't touch them. That was rough.
I wonder if the families have been held in isolation together, so they could at least be quarantined pre-launch with their immediate family? Or if they had to stay fully separated for 2+ weeks prior to this.
Also - I'm FIRMLY in the "only as a last resort if the world was about to literally end" camp as to whether I'd go into to space.

They’ve been working hard for longer than three hours 🙂. Yes, emotional, but this is par for the course, and they’re definitely used to it.

Oh I am so glad I wasn’t tuned in for this, I would have lost it.

Sorry I'm kind of laughing at this. I haven't been following this story, but I think people have likely been working longer than the past 3 hours to put people in space lol.

It was heartbreaking. ***I'm describing it below, in case you don't want to read it. ****
They did "air hugs" from afar, then the astronauts got into the cars, and only then could the wives and kids get close. They walked up and put their hands on the windows with their dads. I was definitely crying. :*(

Thank you for the warning which I ignored like an idiot and now kinda want to cry.
I had gone out to the office to remind H and was surprised when I checked out the sky, because it had been really nice (if you don't count the heat) the last time that I had been out. I mentioned the weather to DH and wondered if it was a concern, and in the time it took to walk across the courtyard they called it, so I walked back out there to tell him.
He was looking forward to seeing it from our yard since our neighbor had a tree fall and we removed a tree and some tall shrubs that all used to block the view when he tried to see launches before. .

Oh definitely! I am more talking about the build up in the last few hours. They have been waiting years for this
I definitely was concerned that the weather would scrub it, all day we had some nasty weather off and on (and we're pretty close to the space coast). We watch most launches from our front yard and were (cautiously) looking forward to it. Fingers crossed for better weather on the 30th!

Hopefully they have better weather on Saturday to safely launch. We were looking forward to watching online.
And a huge NOPE for me ever wanting to go to space, even if I could. I am so claustrophobic, you wouldn't even be able to get me in the thing to begin with.
Was anyone else watching the feed on CNN? They totally screwed up! They must have been on a slight delay - The camera was on the cockpit during countdown and then close to T minus 10 seconds they switched to the outside view, but the rocket was already in flight! About 12 minutes later they were all "We want to show you the launch again" and they showed it properly, but dang. I was all, wait, why is it already airborne?

I am so glad to see I am not the only one who cries at these. I watched the last shuttle launch and my kids didn't get why I was crying. They are older now and only made fun of me a little bit.

Discovery Channel had GREAT coverage. At least, the video was awesome. My six year old WOULD NOT stop asking all kinds of crazy questions.

I don't know that the not touching families is new. A friend of a friend was an astronaut in the last few years and he showed pictures of him talking to his family behind glass as part of pre-launch quarantine.

It was so cool! I can't even imagine what 6000+ miles per hour feels like. Does it feel like when you're in an airplane and don't really feel like you're moving? lol
I also was struck by how they were just sitting there so calmly as they were hurtling into space. I could never be an astronaut. I would be freaking the fuck out.
