We have a birthday party this weekend that’s outside. There’s a snow cone truck that will be there. Other than that, lots of fun in the pool. It’s going to be hot and dry this weekend. I’m looking forward to it.
Tomorrow is the day we can re-register for YMCA day camps, since they eliminated less safe camp themes and are forming smaller groups. So fingers crossed I can get both older kids spots in the camps they want. I can’t wait till they start June 22.
Otherwise not much planned. Probably pool Sunday since it’s supposed to be warmer and sunnier than Saturday. This is my parents’ next to last weekend here so we’ll take advantage of them putting the kids to bed Saturday night while we have backyard drinks with friends we haven’t seen in awhile.
This is (hopefully) my last day without A/C and my last day working in the office for a while. Restraunts are opening for patio service today.. we walked to go get coffee this morning and it's nice to see everyone out getting ready for it. And DH and I are TOTALLY going to go sit ourselves on a patio and have lunch that someone else makes and serves us, cocktails, and NO KIDS WHINING and I'm pretty sure it will be the best thing ever.
DD wants a sleepover with the neighbors this weekend, and I'm hoping the weather is cool enough to get a nice hike in, but beyond that, I have zero plans.
DH wants to finish his ditch project with the neighbors this weekend. Summer camps start and I go back into the office on Monday. I have all sorts of feels about it so I'm not up for much this weekend. I went into the office for the first time in over a month for 1/2 day yesterday. Everyone is back so it was a revolving door with people stopping by to check in. It feels surreal. On a positive, my boss and the owners approved me continuing to wfh one day a week for the summer.
No huge plans. We were invited to go boating and then sleep at a cabin on the lake. However, boating is one of my favorite things, but I am not about sleeping somewhere else this weekend, so we will pass. Not sure what we will get into. Probably shopping for paint for DD's room.
I got to go to TJ MAXX and Target yesterday for the first time since March. We got some things for DDs new room. I have needed a new skillet since the day after lockdown. Somehow, I lost most of my forks and butter knives during lockdown and replaced those. It was nice to be out, but some people don't know how long 6ft is. Thankfully the girl behind me stayed on her mark in the checkout, but the people behind her were directly behind. I was fully prepared to tell someone back up off me and dd, but didn't have to.
I also got a Flawless. I have been wanting on of those for a while. I love it, and still have both of my eyebrows.
I completed my first work week. I am working 9-1 in person and working from home in the afternoons. Friday’s I am off to watch the kids. Our babysitter is coming Sat night as well. She left early Thursday due to dentist appointments so we will also be sitting ourselves on a patio.

I plan on braving Costco tonight for the first time in months. Tomorrow will probably be a lazy morning with DS and then our usual Saturday evening pizza and smores around the campfire with Beau. Sunday we'll go visit my parents.
My area is officially in the Green Phase! So restaurants, salons, and gyms are open with precautions. With the covid and protests going on around here, we don't feel much like going out. We'll probably work on more home projects. DH has figured out how to skim coat the walls, so hopefully he can finish that so we can paint the last two walls in our hallway. Tonight I think we'll do a movie night since the weather is so dreary. That usually entails making some brownies too. I'd like to take the kids to a local drive-thru safari. But we'll see how the crowds are since it is the first green phase weekend.
We are renting tandem kayaks tomorrow from the local place and kayaking around the lake (it is awesome because it is a no-motor small lake). And then having my parents over to celebrate my dad's birthday. The nanny starts on Monday, so we need to get the house into some semblance of order before she starts, so she can see what our normal (pre-pandemic) standard of housekeeping was.
I also cancelled our Punta Cana trip for July officially last night. I'm bummed about it, but can't say enough good things about Costco travel. We are getting all of our money back minus a $20 island fee. We were only supposed to get 85% back, but the rep I talked to mentioned that the airline had changed our flight time due to how many flights have been cancelled, and therefore we could be almost everything back. It only took me 10 minutes on the phone last night. I've booked through them before, but this was the first time I had to change something, and I can't believe how easy it way. Totally booking all my non-work travel through them from now on.
phdmomma, was the 85% due to timing? We booked our Nueva Vallarta trip through Costco and got back 100% and had until June to get the full amount back. I'm glad they gave you 100% back - it makes me that much more confident to book through them in the future.

We are heading over to a friend's for a BBQ tonight; and then we don't have any plans for the weekend. It's supposed to rain all weekend, so we'll probably just keep it super low key. DS, after resisting for a long time, finally started reading Harry Potter; so I'm hoping he'll get through the first book today/tomorrow and we can watch the movie togehter

Tropical storm this weekend so I expect we will be inside most of the time, so I’m planning movies, reading, ideally some organizing and some crafts. H has a stressful work thing today so when he gets home I’ll have roast chicken, caprese salad and a pitcher of cocktails ready.
Patio dining was great. Everyone was following protocol on when to wear a mask, and I didn't even see a single person (guest or worker) wearing their mask under their nose. Lots of cleaning and sanitiation going on. It was really nice. Also I had a French 75 AND gelato. If I haven't made my way to the quarantine 19, I'm definitely on my way..
k3am, It was due to timing. Originally we would have had to cancel by the end of May to get 85% back (and like March to get 100%). But they actually extended it until 1 week before we were supposed to go to get 85%, which was nice. Apparently the fact that our flights got changed a bunch let them refund all of it. I'm totally booking through them in the future. I had booked through them before for disney world, but we didn't have any problems for them to handle on the trip.
We are supposed to be finishing our trip to Japan this weekend. Sigh. Luckily the airlines all waived the redeposit fees for miles and at least American has waived them for trips booked through the end of this month so I’m hoping to rebook for next year at the end of this month or if the tickets aren’t available yet that they extend that deadline.
Today we got started with DS’s orthodontic treatment. 9 months to go. This is only phase 1, he will probably still need full braces when he’s a teenager, but not as long or intense as it would have been without this part.
Tomorrow we are going hiking because the cleaning lady is coming so we leave with the dog for the day. It’s a nice excuse to get outside for the day.
And I don’t think anything is happening Sunday. Just the normal coronavirus times things like being at home all together all day. Woo-hoo!!
Headed to the neighbors pool today! Yay. I have been craving a float day. I am still on a campaign for a pool or lake here, but can't really get on board with the cost with college right around the corner. Even if we did a large aboveground, with all of our trees and hills, it would require lots of dirt work and a large deck to accomplish what I would want. I'd take a nice, well maintained lake with a dock and fountain, but again $$$$$.
I spent 12:40 -2:40 am registering for YMCA day camps because the website kept crashing. And one of the camp themes we wanted was already wait listed. But I was able to get both kids signed up for all 8 weeks starting 6/22. Yay!

I’m sure that is a relief. Now that I have summer care I’m freaking out of school goes back not at all of only 2 days a week. My babysitter was only planning to stay until school starts. She was laid off from her gym job but that place was crazy anyway.
Our AC is done! Not that it’s hot enough to enjoy.. in the process, they broke our garage side door (which was already on its last leg and not a huge deal), so today DH and a neighbor are replacing it.. DH is not very handy, so I’m glad we have a willing & knowledgeable friendly to help out.
waverly yeah I’m trying to be excited about a normal summer because I know next school year probably won’t be. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it since it’s impossible to plan for it with everything up in the air. I personally think it’s ridiculous that daycares and camps can be open (and gyms and salons etc) and we can’t figure out a way for schools, which are so much more important, to be physically open on weekdays. At least in San Diego when we could do all school outside if we wanted. My teacher friends are freaked out about the two day a week thing because of their own childcare needs.
k3am whenever we have something done to our house I feel like the workers break something else!
Got the pool finally filled yesterday. Woke at 5am to pee and the pump sounded funny. Went out to look and a huge hole was gushing water. The seam of the bottom to the walls gave way. It took all week to fill. I lost 3500 gallons of water! I'm not buying another as we weren't plannin on putting it up but with covid and no public pools or plans decided to.
Went to the store got caught in a deluge of water going in and the store was super hot. I'm feeling like crap and really want to take a nap.
I spent the evening planning a weekend getaway for DH and me this fall. I know we can’t book anything right now because no one knows what this fall will look like as far as school, travel, etc., but it’s nice to dream...
Our state’s department of education issued rough guidelines for how to open schools for the fall. Masks, social distancing, 6 feet apart, no more than 10 kids in a classroom, no changing... seems very unreasonable. My kids’ school does not have to follow these guidelines, so I’m curious as to what the principal will come up with.
mae0111- it sounds like they adopted the CDC guidelines. I just don’t think it’s feasible. Plus it doesn’t follow the science about how the virus spreads indoors with prolonged contact. In a nutshell, if you’re in a room together for a prolonged time, none of the rest of these things matter. Masks may help. Keeping the same people together would definitely help. But the 6 ft apart? Won’t help. All desks facing the same way? Doesn’t matter.
It’s hard to get kids to tuck in their shirts. Keep a mask on? I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Our school has said it will open in fall unless public health officials shut schools down. They don’t yet know about masks vs no masks, etc. Since the school goes through 12th grade, I’m guessing they’ll really lock down interactions among age groups and possibly have different rules for different groups. Like the high schoolers may wear masks but elementary (which only goes to 4th grade) won’t. And the littles (PS thru kinder) who are in their own building across campus with their own outdoor play areas will probably be the least restrictive/closest to normal.
mommyatty, I agree. We went to school for a car parade last week, and DD2 was able to keep her mask on for approximately 90 seconds. All of her classmates were there, and none of them lasted much longer than she did.
Ideally the kids would go back without restrictions in the fall, but I think that's more than I can hope for. So the next best thing, in my opinion, would be splitting the classes in half, and sending 1/2 on Mon/Tues, clean Wed and everyone is remote, and the other 1/2 Thurs/Fri. For that to work, they'd have to simulcast the class so that the kids at home are learning in real time.
This model wouldn't work in every school, but it could work at theirs...
DD has been in camp for a week.. and wears a mask the entire time they’re inside. So.. it can be done. I just hate the idea of it.
And that half on half off schedule? 100% not going to work for this family.
Our district is supposedly all about equality. Well that’s going to lead to some serious inequality. Because for us, it will be an inconvenience and we’ll hire someone or DD in some other program, but for families that were struggling already in normal circumstances? They’re 100% screwed.
I’m back to work wearing a mask 4 hours a day. You get used to it unless it’s outside and hot if you are doing manual labor. Inside in the air conditioning it’s not that bad. I would prefer they do everyone masked for 5 days a week rather than no one masked for 2 days a week.
It takes some getting used to but they could take them off at lunch and socially distanced recess maybe.
