You might want to add that there is a graphic picture of the damaged lung in the article. It’s been showing up in my twitter feed all morning (I follow lots of doctors), and it gives me the heebie-jeebies every time. It looks nothing like a healthy lung 😥
I don't know if I should post this in here or Politics but OMG. The Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting this week was NUTS. So many anti-mask and anti-stay-at-home nutters spoke out against the county's requirement to wear masks in public (if possible - so not a REAL requirement). Someone posted on Youtube an edited version of all the craziness.
So many deniers. And "MAH FREEDOMS!" And then the last person is sane and reasonable and you hear the nutters shouting at him.
@ I think starting at 3:25 to roughly 4:14. Hopefully I didn't miss anywhere else. @
ALSO Racism - Steele is the Chairwoman of the BOS and is an Asian-American who is actually a Trumper and anti-mask. I am not a fan of hers in the least. But WTF to the old lady with bright lipstick comments.
And of course the board voted today to stop "requiring" masks.
I'm not a doctor but I'm gonna hazard a guess that lungs don't look like that after the flu. Even though most cases aren't that severe, some lung damage probably occurs don't you think? That damage is unbelievable.

I believe the doctor saying it's one of the worst. I *think* but don't quote me, most double transplants are for congenital issues like cf or for things like copd.
That said, I'd be curious to see comparisons not to flu but on others with long term vents especially if they're on oscillators regardless of the disease. My guess is most of those patients don't get transplants and are unlikely to be autopsied, so maybe a transplant surgeon has few points of comparison for this type of illness and treatment? I really don't know.

I saw that a pharma co. has started human trials of it’s coronavirus antibody cocktail. They are looking to we if it can serve as a vaccine and a cure. I’m interested to see how this goes.

oh yeah, and I forgot to mention our Chief Health Officer resigned because she was being harassed at her HOME by the anti-mask people.
Ohio’s Director of Health resigned yesterday too. She was being harassed by people with guns at her house and anti-Semitic comments from even those in office. It was nuts. She’s apparently staying on as chief medical advisor but won’t be the face of the covid response anymore. It’s really sad when the loud obnoxious ignorant minority cause so much chaos.

This is so sad.
I work closely with a lot of public officials and most of us are just trying to do our best. It is awful when some idiots prevent that from happening.

I grew up in Ohio and have a lot of friends still there so I've been following this on FB. It's so awful. This shouldn't happen to anyone for any reason, but she was doing an amazing job and really able to manage Ohio's outbreak. This is a huge loss and the reasons for her resignation are just vile.

Turns out that BJ did the same as Trump (hmm...I wonder who gave those orders?) and scrapped the Cabinet pandemic committee 6 months before coronovirus hit the UK.
oris Johnson scrapped a team of senior ministers charged with preparing the country for a pandemic six months before the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK, according to a report.
According to the Daily Mail, the group - called the Threats, Hazards, Resilience and Contingency Committee (THRCC) - was suspended by former prime minister Theresa May on the advice of Cabinet Secretary Sir Mark Sedwill so that civil servants and ministers could focus on Brexit.
The Government committee, which included Cabinet ministers such as Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, Michael Gove and Gavin Williamson, was abolished by Mr Johnson a few days after he entered Downing Street. The committee was axed without discussing virus control plans.
Me: of course the idiot did. He's seriously screwed our country in so many ways. Oh, and we are also doing a hard Brexit in Jan - because we're already screwed so why not hurt the country even more by Brexit.
Johns Hopkins scientists studying the virus that causes COVID-19 say the pathogen has few variations, a promising observation that boosts the chances of developing an effective vaccine.

Has the NYT Vaccine Tracker been shared? I usually keep up with this as it has a lot of different pharma companies with different vaccine types listed.
So, I read this article about how on average people with Type A blood do the worst/catch it more frequently and Type O the best/less frequently. Only correlation now.
I'm Type A, my husband is Type O. I have decided he has to do all shopping as a result. Ha.

Was it a new/recent article? I saw this mentioned a while back and I'm curious if there has been more recent information about it. I'm type O (and DD1) so it would make me happy, LOL. H and DD2 are B.
Anyone have thoughts on the new IHME projections of total deaths in the US around 200K by October? It is ramping my anxiety back up but I feel like people don't seem to care much. I remember early on the projections were around the same number and it was a huge deal.

This seems to be holding true in multiple studies.

Now I wish I knew my blood type.
You can go donate blood (if you're able) and they'll type it for you.

A restaurant in Eastern Ohio named Pennsylvania's Governor Tom Wolf as its "Employee of the Month" because Governor Wolf's policies for Erie, Pennsylvania, caused an increase in sales at the Ohio restaurant.

A Pennsylvania state rep introduced a house resolution to impeach Governor Wolf over his actions during the Covid-19 crisis. He referred to the governor as "Dictator Wolf."
The state rep who introduced this (Daryl Metcalfe) is a Republican with an infamous reputation. His district is full of Trump supporters. I am under the impression that his district was one of the districts in Western PA that Mike Pence visited last week.
Michigan's GOP is big mad that Gov Whitmer didn't just let people die and wants to repeal the governor's emergency powers.
The initiative would repeal the Emergency Powers of Governor Act of 1945. The statute is a major source of Whitmer's authority to issue emergency orders during the coronavirus pandemic, after the GOP-controlled Legislature declined to extend Whitmer's powers under the Emergency Management Act of 1976.
