Watching it through the lens of the world of the last few weeks, I really think his friends didn’t think racism was that big of a deal. Like it just didn’t occur to them that people would treat their buddy differently because of his skin because it had never mattered to them and thus it was no longer an issue they really need to worry about. Unfortunately they learned about the reality of racism in the most awful way and will know they fucked up the rest of their lives.
I really don't know what to think about his friends from Gardner. It's hard to now "know" about racist areas in small towns like that. And I think racial slurs were thrown around that night, that I'm sure the friends probably heard them and knew that it wasn't the safest place to be.
The theory is that he was murdered by a few at that party and then his body was held in a local business' freezer until the FBI and KBI finished their searches. That's why the brother saw him look so well-preserved (for a lack of a better term) and his personal items weren't damaged.
That medical examiner was part of the shady crew that covered this all up.
This case is one that will keep me up at night. I really hope his family finds answers and gets the peace they deserve.
I’m thinking of my own small racist town. The handful of Black kids seemed to be “used to” the racist shit said to them constantly and the white guys definitely thought they were being humorous or that it was okay because they were buddies. I have no doubt that the Black kids weren’t okay with it, but went along with it because small racist town. The white kids would have no idea that the shit they said constantly coming from someone else wouldn’t be “affectionate.” Not to defend his buddies, they should never have left him alone, but I can see them not realizing the magnitude of the danger because they’ve said all those things before.
(Please don’t take this as a defense of the buddies or the white guys from my high school. It wasn’t okay then and it’s not okay now.)
I think someone in power was definitely involved like a dad covering up for his kid or similar. The lack of water damage to his stuff was the clincher for me. I was also surprised that no technical has been developed that see if a body has been frozen. I mean if people can tell if meat has been previously frozen, shouldn’t we be able to tell with a body?

I am only on episode 3.
Episode 2 the husband/step dad was such an asshole. He changed the locks on the house the day after Patrice disappeared locking her 15 year old son out. What if she needed a break from his creepy ass and was coming back!?
Also, He kept all of her ashes, not sharing them with her son and SLEPT WITH THEM.
The guy is weird and I am not convinced he didn’t have something to do with it.

I saw this reboot is rated TV MA. I remember watching the old one as a kid. Is this one graphic? Asking because my 11 year old loves police procedural dramas and may be interested in this.

I’ve only seen the first three episodes but so far there isn’t anything visually graphic. Three were a couple f bombs in the second episode.

Yes! I finished that episode last night and I am convinced that creepy husband knows more than he's letting on. At the very least he's lying when he says he didn't know she was unhappy. If her son and all her friends knew, I'm betting he did too. All those mentions of how jealous and controlling he was are a huge red flag IMO.

I said the same thing! Him locking his stepson out of his own home screamed to me that he knew she was not coming back. She's missing one day and you don't worry even a little that she is going to be furious with you when she comes back? You aren't focused on trying to get her back, bonding with her son over worry about her and searching for her? Yeah, he knew. and he's still controlling her body to the extent he can to this day.
I watched the first one and did some online research. There was an article that said he would've had to be running 11 miles an hour to get to where the hole/body was found. That's average running speed so not a major feat. I think the most likely explanation given that was that he was having delusions and paranoia and had a mental break although I'm not convinced of that. I still don't understand why the company/his friend would not participate in the investigation and it's maddening the police didn't force that issue more.
Wait, 11 miles an hour?? that’s sub 5:30/minutes a mile which is super fucking fast.

Sprinting speed is a lot different than longer distances. He didn't have to run a mile to jump off the roof.
"The fastest among us can sprint 100m at a speed of 15.9 mph, or between 13-14 seconds." link So 11 mph is not an unreasonable sprinting speed.
Lol @ the bliss comment
I don't know, man. There's a Woodway treadmill at my gym and if I'm remembering correctly I can barely crack 11 mph on it when I'm pushing really, really hard.

Sure but it does seem much more likely that he was able to reach that speed sprinting than someone dropping him from a helicopter or something, right? I still think there's a lot that doesn't add up, even if he did jump. Just that it seems like the most simple explanation.
Here is the reddit post that led me to the article.

Alonzo Brooks has been exhumed. New tips and info have come in since the show aired. I hope there can be answers for the family. The FBI have reopened the case and are offering a 100k reward.

The third episode and last episode have been haunting me since I watched them. How in the world did Alonso's friends leave him behind? And those poor sisters. Mom is messed up.

in slippers!. I'm partial to the Russians doing it because he knew something he shouldn't and that the scene was staged. Total Russian mo to break shins and stage suicide, and the bar in the basement was Russian plus they lost money. Why was there no skin, blood, clothing on that hole?
Ep 2 stepdad is a total asshole and is totally guilty
Ep 3 can't watch bc the subtitles only intermittently play for me
Ep 4 heartbreaking. The friends will forever feel guilt, but I can see what led to them thinking zo wasn't in as much danger if they regularly heard slurs and thought them nbd. Happens in small towns. Hell, I knew someone in Miami who insisted it was ok to things her black friends say to each other because she's Cuban and also a minority (which, not in Miami you're not). I don't know about the me, but for damn sure people in town know through accomplicity (go with it) or gossip. Im glad it's been reopened.
Ep 5 insulted my intelligence too much. I couldn't make it past 10 minutes. They're all 10/12 years. How many of you were convinced you actually saw bloody Mary at that age? The mind is powerfully influenced especially at that age, enough to cause physical responses even, and especially if there story is repeated by friends. It's a huge part of false memory creation, that they'll all sync up (see: saleen witches) These UFO stories are all variations on a theme)

Re: episode 2
My biggest theory is that the husband had something to do with it. He said he studied criminology. He would know he needed to have a solid alibi (though they did say his timeline didn't totally eliminate him) and that he couldn't be placed at her salon that day by anyone. So I wouldn't be surprised if he paid or otherwise convinced someone else to kill her.
Another thing I wonder about is her last appointment that morning. They said it was a man who left at 11:37 and by 11:50 she was likely gone as she didn't answer a phone call. Plus right after he left, a client said they called and she seemed very short and weird on the phone. Perhaps because that man never did leave or circled back and had her at gunpoint? I don't know, it's just such a short window that I am curious about her last appointment.
My last theory is someone random and/or a previous client. I didn't like that her shop was just by itself there on the side of a busy road and she was always in there alone. They also said random people would just come in to get directions or whatever. I don't think I'd feel safe being there alone where just anyone can wander in. Or it could have been a former/current client of hers who got obsessed with her and knew she was in there alone.
