jennistarr1 we watched for the same reason. We used to live just a few blocks away and spent a ton of time at a bar pretty much across the street.
In some ways the new version is too high quality to be Unsolved Mysteries. I miss the ridiculous reenactments of the original. I was relieved to see there is a aliens episode though! We'll definitely keep watching.
I watched the first one and did some online research. There was an article that said he would've had to be running 11 miles an hour to get to where the hole/body was found. That's average running speed so not a major feat. I think the most likely explanation given that was that he was having delusions and paranoia and had a mental break although I'm not convinced of that. I still don't understand why the company/his friend would not participate in the investigation and it's maddening the police didn't force that issue more.
That music is creepy AF and I have so many questions about that first case. Mainly, where did he fall from?!?
Episode 3 have me chills. Ugh.
ETA: I also think they killed him or hurt him before they threw him
This is what my H thinks as well. The shin injuries were not consistent with a suicide. Unfortunately, the body was left too long to find out exactly how he died but my H thinks he was beaten to death, and the rest was obviously staged.
Ep1: People on Twitter are speculating he was thrown from a helicopter after he was beaten. The “friend” was totally in on it.
I hope this gets a lot of press. Crazy how the cops couldn’t/ wouldn’t go further with investigating the Stansbury company. Also, what a coinky dink that his work people found him.
Netflix did something weird on my H's account and started us on the alien episode, instead of episode 1. So now we've watched the last two episodes instead of looping back around to watch the ones at the beginning.
No way did a guy who was afraid of heights willingly run and jump off a building.

Right? I'm afraid of heights and that's my worst nightmare. There's no way I could make myself do that.
I am so happy you guys are into this!!! I’ve been a HUGE fan since I was a little kid and I’ve been watching the Robert Stack reruns (I find them creepy but also soothing) since I discovered them on Prime. I also follow the UM subreddit and there has been so much buildup since news of the reboot was released. I’ve casually watched the first four and went back and rewatched the first two so far.
Love me some subreddits that has a bunch of sleuthing.
I’m so into these shows. They make me sad and frustrated, but I’m hoping the present day airings will bring some new revelations to the cases and bring peace to the families.
The 3rd episode has me so perplexed as to how this guy could not only kill his entire family, but also execute it without leaving any forensic clues or evidence.
Episode 4 has me so angry. Those “friends” fucked up by leaving Alonso behind, knowing there was racial tension at that party. I’m extremely fired up about the lack of investigation and the entire town that holds the secrets to what happened that night. I hope those that participated and kept secrets burn in hell.

I think it was on here once but I mentioned the Unsolved Mysteries and the Unresolved Mysteries subreddits and someone asked me what the difference was. It was funny/sad/embarrassing that I could actually answer that question lol.

I went down the rabbit hole in Reddit about Alonso's case. Seems like there is a blog out there where anonymous people have been posting and writing names of his killers and how they got away with it. I'm so hopeful that his killers will be brought to justice!!!

Watching it through the lens of the world of the last few weeks, I really think his friends didn’t think racism was that big of a deal. Like it just didn’t occur to them that people would treat their buddy differently because of his skin because it had never mattered to them and thus it was no longer an issue they really need to worry about. Unfortunately they learned about the reality of racism in the most awful way and will know they fucked up the rest of their lives.

I wondered if he was dropped from a plane! That's interesting that that's a theory. Though I am not 100% sure how easily that could have been done in that area. It's not unusual to hear helicopters in that area (at least these days) since there are 2 hospitals nearby and police helicopters are pretty common too. But I feel like someone would have seen one get close enough to drop a body... it also seems like a really strange way to dispose of a body. If you are going to dump it out of a helicopter, why do it in the city? There are also much better places in Baltimore to dump a body than on top of a building in a fairly busy residential/commercial area. I wouldn't describe that area in 2020 as "bustling" but there are plenty of people who live, work, and visit that area and it sounds like it may have been even more busy back then.

The 3rd one fucked with me so hard. My STBXH did the entire hiding that he spent everything thing and I think watching that was the first time I realized how it could have all gone a different way to “save his pride.” Damn episode with subtitles sucking me in!

I really don't know what to think about his friends from Gardner. It's hard to now "know" about racist areas in small towns like that. And I think racial slurs were thrown around that night, that I'm sure the friends probably heard them and knew that it wasn't the safest place to be.
The theory is that he was murdered by a few at that party and then his body was held in a local business' freezer until the FBI and KBI finished their searches. That's why the brother saw him look so well-preserved (for a lack of a better term) and his personal items weren't damaged.
That medical examiner was part of the shady crew that covered this all up.
This case is one that will keep me up at night. I really hope his family finds answers and gets the peace they deserve.
