FF confession: my kids don’t have any video games. I want to buy them a system but I don’t know which one to get. My son is going into 6th grade, daughter in 4th and son in K.
Nintendo Switch is super fun. That's what my kids have. They're able to do all the classic stuff like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros and the newer stuff like Animal Crossing and Minecraft. (So.much.Minecraft) I think the regular Switches that connect to the TV and let you do multi-player are really, really hard to track down right now. It's cool though. They can dock it and display on the TV to play together or use it as a portable system. It's a genius design. The Switch Lites are a lot cheaper and more readily available. That's more like a "Gameboy" style portable system and cannot dock to the TV or do multiplayer. My kids have one of each because their dad is ridiculous.
After visiting friends who have a Switch, it’s all my 7-year-old is taking about. DH says it’s the hot system right now. I’d also argue that, since it’s Nintendo, you’d get access to the Mario franchise games and others that are likely age appropriate for the son in K. I don’t know much about the other systems, but the games seem more mature.
DD2 is saving for a switch. I’ve been trying to find one for a couple of months from a legitimate source... no luck... let me know if you find one!!
DS got one from his birthday last October. It's nice, because he can play it like a gameboy, or hook it up to the TV, and both he and DD can play then with the controllers.
One of DD's gym friends dad keeps offer to pick DD up at lunchtime and let the girls hang before practice. I haven't taken up the offer because they aren't doing a great job of social distancing. This same friend is leaving today for a 2 week trip to LA to visit friends. Our county has 80 active cases with a population of 160k! We had a 40 case spike over the weekend and all those cases were traced back to travelling out of the area. Why go to LA now? It makes no sense especially since her mom has MS and her grandpa just beat leukemia last fall. So I'm judging big time and not taking up the offer for DD to go play.
This is just a DDOT but I'm having major mommy guilt. I've been super busy at work the last couple weeks and DD is totally free ranging it and I feel rotten. I don't know how to fix this and won't slow down for at least 2 more weeks. I'm now 2nd guessing doing online because she deserves more attention than what I can give when work is busy. I know it is short lived but I just can't let go of feeling the guilt.
Vent: I may have just called my boss and told him that if my coworker doesn't catch coronavirus and die, I'm going to head over and take him out myself. The level of anger I have at him right now is... significant.

Animal Crossing is a 20 year old franchise My brother and I played it back in 2001.
I agree with all of this! If you are a Costco member they have been getting the Switch in and it comes with the online family membership and a case.
The Switch life isn’t bad though if you don’t think they’d want to play multiplayer games much.
