So I understand you can’t night time potty train. If your kid wakes up to pee though at what age did they start to do that at night by themself?
Just wondering when it’s age appropriate to do that. During the day he’s fine to handle it all, but at night it’s dark and would involve turning on lights and opening doors. When did your kid start handling that all independently?
Up until now his door has been baby proofed closed, but today we started doing nap time sans diaper so we removed the door cover. But that’s daylight so obviously a lot easier.
We’re still doing nighttime in a diaper because I value my sleep.
I think my dd is close to age to yours. She isn’t ready overnight but in the morning she goes to the bathroom (sometimes) by herself. She has a sound machine that’s pretty bright and two plug in nightlights. Her room is still very dark in the morning and those help her get to the bathroom and we installed the helper switch in the bathroom so she can turn that light on by herself,
I think ds2 was around 4. Maybe a little before. We have a nightlight in the bathroom which is right outside his room. There’s also a nightlight in the hallway further down. He still wears a pull-up but is dry most of the time and gets up to use the bathroom at night if needed.
Ds1 was probably 5, as that’s when he really was night trained.

Probably around 5 or 6 but she had been out of diapers since26 months because once she PT she refused them at night as well. She was in a crib until 3.5 and when she switched to a regular bed she was so used to staying put in her bed and to holler for me to go pee or even if she needed anything. She would not get up out of bed, she would just holler What I did do for a while is when I went to bed around midnight I would just have her go do a dream pee to avoid having to get up shorty after I had gone to sleep.. Other times she would just yell for me to help her go potty. I think a lot of it had to do with the dark too. She didn’t like getting up in the dark and leaving her room to go potty by herself.

My ds did it immediately when he potty trained at 3. I tried putting a little potty in his room overnight the first few nights in case he had to go overnight. The first time he did need to pee overnight, he peed in the little potty, then tried to carry it to the bathroom to dump it in the toilet like we would do, and spilled pee everywhere. So from then on we just told him if he had to pee overnight to just get up and go to the bathroom. The bathroom was right across from his room, and we kept night lights in the bathroom and the hallway, so he was fine. We did have to gate him in at bedtime, so if he woke up to pee before dh and I went to bed he'd call for help with the gate, but we'd remove the gate when we went to bed so if it was overnight he was fine on his own.
I don't remember anything specific from dd, but I think she stayed in diapers overnight for about a year after she potty trained (she still napped and had a diaper at naptime too, whereas ds was done napping and gave up diapers 100% when he potty trained). I do remember that when she got a big kid bed, she'd wake up in the morning and call out for us instead of getting up herself, so I'm guessing she'd do the same if she needed to go to the bathroom, but mostly never needed to I think.

E was day trained last October, and on Christmas Eve told me "no diaper" at bed time and I was too tired to argue with her so to bed in undies she went. She wakes up most nights to pee and yells for us. At rest (nap) time she calls me and I take her to the bathroom. My main worry with her going by herself in the night is that the toilet is next to the tub, and I'm scared she will fall off the pot and get hurt - she's pretty groggy in the middle of the night. So I'm not sure when I will suggest to her that she go by herself.
We did a little potty (with a lid for her to close) around 2.5, and right around 3 we got rid of it and she started using the regular toilet independently. The only weird thing is that she has no concept of closing doors quietly. It is a little startling to hear the door slamming at 3am lol
Omg! Day 2 of no diapers at nap and it’s going great! He used to use this time to poop in his diaper but he has gone in the potty instead!!! YYYESSS!!!
We’re going to keep nighttime diapers for now but these responses are helpful. Hopefully we can work towards pull ups and him going potty himself. The thought of him creeping around the house while I’m sleeping scares me though. LOL.
My son started holding it all night when he was about 3 years old. He is 7 now and basically never goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Maybe it’s just because I’ve had 2 kids and can’t hold pee anymore but I can’t imagine this. LOL. My kid does have a bladder of steal though so I wonder if he’d even try to go if we removed the diaper. 🤔 I think most of his wet diaper is him sitting in bed before we come to get him versus an actual accident while sleeping.
DD2 was a weird wizard of potty training and starting being dry overnight and at nap almost immediately when we trained her at 2. DD1 was tougher and was in pull-ups overnight until about 4.5. At that point she was still wet in the morning but started to not want the pull ups. DH took her to pee at 11pm nightly for about 4 mo. Then he forgot one night and she was fine and that was about a month ago and since then she’s been totally dry overnight. Neither kid pees overnight from about 8pm-8am but i think if they needed to pee DD1 would be fine alone (she’s 5 next month) and DD2 I’m sure would yell until I came to get her to help her (she’s 3.5).
DS1 stopped wearing pull ups around 4 years old. I can only think of a handful of times he's gotten up in the middle of the night, but it usually wakes me up and he's done fine navigating to the bathroom and getting the light on. He's had a few accidents over the last year and a half, but basically he holds it all night.
DS2 is still in pull ups at 3, so I imagine when he stops wearing pull ups he'll be fine to get to the bathroom on his own. He doesn't wake up at night.
FWIW, both kids are totally fine to get up and go to the bathroom after bedtime, at which point the hallway and bathroom are dark. They do fine navigating to the bathroom and getting the light on. I wouldn't worry about it.
