After all these months of blood work and doctors and back and forth, we've figured out that I don't have lupus after all. My thyroid is dead. I have Hashimoto's so we knew this could happen eventually, but my thyroid blood work has always come back ok when I get tested every few months to monitor it. Testing in April looked good. Testing in June looked ok. I just did two rounds of testing, 2 weeks apart, and it's completely burnt out. That's why all these symptoms have just exploded since the spring. I start thyroid meds this week and hopefully that will resolve a lot of the joint pain I'm dealing with once we get the dosage right. Thyroid issues can also lead to more depression and anxiety, so I may be able to wean off those meds too if this helps get that in check. I'm so relieved to just have an answer and a plan.
twinmomma, That is great news!! I am glad they found the issue. It's the worst waiting. And I am glad they know how to treat it!
Updates: Still working at home. Still have a broken truck for DH, but he is using BIL's. Keys were found. Hopefully buying a backup car Monday that will be DD's next summer. Now going virtually to school until October 12.
I just found out that I will not be able to teach one of my classes until January. We can do our lessons virtually, but I think they are just concentrating on core classes until next semester. I guess that gives me time for business contact tracing since I will be doing that still in all probability. I am sure my other class will cancel also.
twinmomma - I’m so happy you were able to get a diagnosis. Hopefully your meds will be on target soon and your health will settle down.
I ended up bringing the kids to meet DH to go camping. I was in the car for over 6 hours, but it’s worth it to get a small break. They will be back on Saturday. So far I’ve cleaned out DD2’s room and rehomed several large toys/items including a Step 2 playhouse, kitchen and accessories, and a kid-sized table and chairs. I’ve got a bunch of stuff posted on our local free site so hoping it all goes today.
twinmomma, my sister has Hashimoto's and Hashimoto's triggered RA, and my other sister has Grave's Disease and has had her thyroid irradiated.. and once their meds were leveled out, nearly all their symptoms improved significantly. So cheers to an answer and being on your way to feeling better!!
twinmomma, for one sister, it's easier than the other. They both have to work at it, but one is just.. more successful at it than the other. One realizes that diet/exercise/lifestyle choices are part of keeping her symptoms in control, the other one realized that if she messed with her meds, she'd lose weight without having to work for it... It's been like 15 years for her and she's just now coming around to realizing that that method doesn't help her in the long run.
twinmomma, I am so glad you got some answers! Do you follow ChrislovesJulia? She has it too and they talk about it often on IG. Her husband is a great cook and shares the recipes he makes that she can eat. Might be worth a follow.
No real updates here. Almost done with my week. My mom comes to visit tomorrow, and the kids start school Monday.
DH asked our nanny how her job search was going. Today is her last day. She said she is waiting to see what our schools do, so I guess it is good we have childcare on call. But since none of us have ANY idea what will happen this fall, I'm not sure this is in her best interest. I don't think she is a super motivated job seeker, so maybe this is easier. Like she figures she'll have a week or 2 off, and then it will all fall apart, and she does e-leaning? Also she's never done e-learning before, so bwahahahahahahahahah. Jokes on her that is will be easier than her summer of taking the kids to all the parks around town.

@twinmommma I’m glad they found the issue! I have Hashis too (since I was 13) and meds help. I still have noticeable symptoms but meds help significantly and it’s easy medicine to take!
twinmomma, I'm so happy you got it figured out. rere, my brother calls your DS's truck a project car. A car/truck you work on when you got extra money but it isn't your preferred mode of transportation.
I've just wrote out my must do work deadlines for the rest of the year. It leaves me with not a single open week or open group of days to take off. I'll end up just telling clients I'm taking XYZ off please have your info to me by X so I can do it before I leave. Lots of my clients wait until the day they need things and then get snippy with me when I didn't get it back to them before they gave it to me. DD looked at it and started to cry that there is no time to get away from work. This is the one huge downfall to being your own boss and not really having anyone to cover for you.
So just when I think my school plan is set, something else comes up.
Word on the street is that the school board is voting to push the start of school back from 09/01 to 09/08. I only know because of the school parents' facebook page. I also checked the school board agenda online to confirm and yep, there is an item to discuss and vote on this.
A neighboring school district that was going to have a 5-day in-person option just had to switch to 4 weeks online to start the school year because too many people signed up for the in-person option. People were upset about it, but understood (for the most part).
Another school district in an affluent part of town just switched their plan from 5-day in-person to 4 weeks online and the parents had a protest to get the kids back in school now. It was on the news and in the paper.
This just makes me realize how lucky I am that DH is a SAHD. I shudder to think about what would happen if he was still working at the local grocery store overnight.
That’s great that you finally have a diagnosis twinmomma!
Lots of change coming up in our house. DD turns 8 on Saturday and gets her own room (where DH has his office - now moved to the garage - and has been sleeping on the Murphy bed while baby was in our room with me). So DS2 moves in with DS1, baby moves into DS2’s old room/the nursery, and DH moves back in with me. The only transition I’m worried about is the two boys together - DS1 is not always as kind as he should be to DS2.
Then everyone in our family starts something new next week except DH. The big kids start their pod in the morning/YMCA enrichment activities in the afternoon. DS2 starts YMCA preschool, which I think he’s going to love. Baby starts daycare Monday. He’s not a great napper so we’ll see if our in home DCP can get him to sleep. And I go back to work full time (remotely) next week too. I’m really glad I don’t have to start traveling for work right away like I normally would - a pandemic silver lining for sure!

It is day 4 of school at home. Days 1/2 were a wash for various technical technology/lesson prep reasons. Day 3 was a bit of a mess. Day 4 has been better but DD1 is in epic whine mode and got a 60 on her first quiz because she tries to speed through.
SIGH.
I am stressed and haven’t had my turn as teaching-parent yet.

Also DD1 is rather far behind evidently. I guess I am not surprised. Her teacher died, she had a series of subs and then only had her regular teacher for like 8 weeks before going home for covid and never really going back. The curriculum the online school is now giving her is a challenge.
librarychica ugh. I envision our virtual learning start to be similar.
We got our teacher assignments yesterday. We made three requests and the school granted one of them - putting all 3 first grade boys in our pod with the same teacher. But they didn’t give us the teacher we wanted.
My 1st grader had a long term sub for half of last year (who we hired as our pod teacher) and now he got assigned to a teacher on indefinite medical leave, so another long-term sub. I’m pretty sure he’s behind, too, even though I’ve been trying to work with him every night on reading and he’s made some strides there.
DDOT: The city came out to do a real AC inspection and we needed some additional work done.. AC company came out, fixed stuff, and the next day, the air gap was shooting water. They came out to fix it today, and now the system doesn't work at all. It's supposed to be REALLY HOT tomorrow, and they haven't gotten back to us about trying to schedule an appointment. My guess is we'll have to suffer through the weekend.
I'm very frustrated. Between my bathroom reno and HVAC replacement, we've spent close to $100k in one year on stuff that just doesn't freaking go right. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
k3am every time we have work done, it causes some other problem. Example - we had termite damage fixed, so new woodwork, and the exterior of the house painted. When they put our hose holder back on, they accidentally drilled into a water pipe, so had to shut off our water for a day (DH’s bday, when I was out of town for work, and he had to shower in our backyard outdoor shower at 5 am before work). When they turned water back on, they set the pressure too high, so a few months later we realized that had broken our water softener 😬 It’s always something...I hope your A/C gets fixed before the weekend!
Happy: the AC guys showed up this morning without even calling. The inspector required them to move a condensation line, which went from being 5 feet long, to 25 feet long, which had resulted in water spitting. Apparently there was a thing in the system that used to be big enough, but with the longer line, the thing isn't big enough, so he slowed the system down to stop the water leak, but resulted in the AC being sucky. So now there's a new thing that they'll put under the other thing, so hopefully all the things will eventually work.
Vent: I have a small team at work. My manager, who brings in business and stirs up shit and makes life harder, me, and two operations folks. There is almost no overlap with my roll and the operations folks. One of them is my coworker who has cancer and she's currently in the hospital. The other one asked for her first vacation day in 2020. I am.. trying to do her role, but I suck at it.
