The fall semester starts today. This is going to be a rough 3 months, lol. I have 6 classes and a weird schedule that's going to throw off my whole usual routine and I am a VERY routine oriented person. Deeeeep breaths.
My desk is out for delivery again today. Let's hope it actually shows up this time.
This summer we got to know and spend time with one of FIL's friends who was just the most delightful man and I came to really care for him like he was my own family, I know that sounds weird, but you know how you just connect with some people? Anyway, he's having fairly extensive back surgery today and he's 83 so it's pretty risky. But he's been in so much pain and is so tired of not being able to do the activities he loves so he's going for it. I was texting with him yesterday to wish him luck and I'll be holding my breath today until I hear how it went. He's a widower, but has daughters and family with him so I'm glad for that.
I have a coworker who started working there 2 weeks before I did, and she does work the most similar to mine, so we are kind of a team. I really like her personally but she sometimes drives me nuts with work - we have very different styles/attitudes and I honestly don't like a lot of her work because of it. She's been out on FMLA/other leave for a good portion of the last 6 months and with working from home, I don't have as much interaction with her these days. But now she's back full time and I talked with her this morning, and she's already irritating me again lol. She is just really negative about everything at my work and can't seem to move forward from it. There are a lot of things I don't love, but I think I'm far more of a "roll with it" sort of person than she is, so the space in the last few months has been good for me. I hope someday she can find a new job and we can just be friends socially, because I think that would be a huge difference!
I decided to sign up for a 2nd grad school class this semester. I hope that's not the wrong choice. I took 2 classes last semester and found myself frustrated by the time commitment, but right now I kind of having nothing BUT time so it seems silly not to take advantage of getting another class out of the way. Other than keeping up with the readings/assignments, I actually don't think either class will be difficult - I already know a lot about the subjects, and the one I just added is a particular area of interest for me so hopefully I'll enjoy it.
We're down to 1 accident per day with the new puppy and she's sleeping through the night, so for that I'm thankful LOL
One trick pony here, but I started going to houses last week for my Census job. Please, if you haven't already filled yours out and someone comes to your house, don't be mean and just do the darn survey!
We're currently waiting for the final underwriting approval for our refinance, I was hoping that it was going to be sent last week, but they are so slammed, it's not going to go until mid this week. Still hoping to go to settlement by the middle of September, but I'm getting nervous. We already had our appraisal come in $10K less than we hoped, so I really can't take any more bad news with this.
I had such a crappy weekend, it's nice to be at work today.
I think H and I may be separating? He got really angry and mean yesterday and I asked him to leave the house (really meaning temporarily, like go chill out) and he didn't come back last night and texted me today that he's going to come get some stuff from the house and stay somewhere else. "With people who want to be with him" There's been other stuff building up.
DS2 decided to start climbing out of his crib on Friday and won't stay in the toddler bed, so I'm running on 5 hours of sleep the past few nights.
I'm just running on fumes and so physically and emotionally drained right now.
Woke up with a sore throat and fever today, so that’s cool. Heading out for a test shortly 🙁 I’m sort of a hypochondriac under the best of circumstances, so you can imagine how my morning has been going.
I’m having another one of those days that is super productive from 6-10 am and now I want to go back to sleep and also stop time because I’m not ready for the 2nd half of August.

Virtual school is sucking my soul. Can I just not have my kids in school this year and start over next year? The kids get no breaks in virtual learning, other than lunch, which is the opposite of what we were told by the school board, so that’s fun.
Also, I need a nap. I have no energy ever and it’s frustrating.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

I'm just eating my breakfast sandwich at 1pm.
My dentist apt was 30 mins, including x-rays and prepping for the apt. The dentist did the cleaning. I felt it was phoned in, but less painful than the normal Hygienist. They didn't hand me a bill for the PPE fee so I anticipate that they're sending it after as a "whoops we forgot". Also some HIPPA violations, I could hear the voicemail, then the office manager complains about a mom who calls all the time "oh x" like yup, I'm right here, I shouldn't hear this.
Ended up going to FIL's social distant party this weekend. I wore my mask the whole time and tried to stand far away, but people kept moving closer. After we all arrived one BIL shows up with no mask saying he has a cold, but had a negative COVID test. Come in to work today and my boss (who thankfully has mostly stayed behind a half wall) said she has a sinus infection but is COVID negative (had to get a test to go in to the doc). Hopefully they're both ok and that their tests were accurate, but like stay home (telework), and give a heads up so I can wear my mask every single moment, or not be around you in case your test was wrong. This is why we're going to deal with after the election.

I started my new job last week, it was all remote just getting oriented and whatnot.
Today I came in to the office to get to know more people, but I’m still not on the malpractice insurance so not seeing patients. So I’ve just been doing some leadership type stuff.
So I decided to take a break for lunch and walk around since it’s nice out. So right now I’m sitting at a little Korean cafe for lunch. This is such a new concept for me to have time for lunch and actually sit down at a restaurant for a meal. Is this what "normal" job lunch breaks are like?!? I could get used to this! Haha.
My sister and her BF are moving into an apartment (both live at home W/ moms at the moment). I figured I’d give them some cash to put toward furniture but I want to package it with a few small gift items.
Any suggestions on little things you don’t really think of when you first move into a new place? She said she’s set on kitchen utensils. I just ordered postage stamps and an all natural cleaner (https://pur-home.com/16-oz-multi-surface-cleaning-powder/).
Anything else? I thought of batteries, nice hand soap, cloth napkins, shower curtain liner, pens. Not looking to spend/buy a whole lot.

Maybe nails/wall hangers/command strips? We always have to run out and get garbage bags during a move, my lord the trash that unearths.
My oldest is living his best life at Camp Granny. No idea when he’s coming back...all my mom said was “Monday-ish”...last time she said that was Thanksgiving break and he ended up staying 10 days 😂

Maybe a wreath? Coffee table book? Drawer/shelf liners?
I was stupid and stopped taking the colace when I stopped taking the pain killers and now my hemorrhoids are pissed and it extra sucks because all I do is sit down all the time.

I need a medium sized island for my new kitchen. Ideally 44” wide and 18-20” deep. I want solid wood, not particleboard/veneers. I would prefer a stone or stainless countertop but would go with butcher block if I had to.
I have looked at local chains Value City and Bobs, and online at Overstock, Wayfair, and Bed Bath & Beyond. Where else can I look? I don’t want to say price doesn’t matter, but I’m willing to pay for quality, or even something custom. Where else can I look?

One of my co-workers tested positive for covid. She's in a different department, but same building as me and I interact with her employees semi-frequently. Management isn't telling everyone. I think they only notified the department she's in. I'm not pleased with how this is being handled. I told my boss I'm going back to wfh until her employees get their test results. Hopefully they will be negative!
I just paid a structural engineer to come look at a few things that have been making me nervous and basically nothing is wrong. There’s a fix we should do to our patio to prevent potential issues down the line, but it’s minor in the grand scheme of what needs to be done. I feel so much better now. I was psyching myself up this weekend to spend a few grand to fix some stuff that is really unfun to spend money on. Maybe I’ll go ahead and get the recessed lighting that I want in our living room. Lol

I always need power strips when I move. Or extension cords. It's like the moving gremlins take and hide them, and then months/years later, i find them all, haha. Also, i never want to cook when I move, so maybe a GC to their favorite take out place?

mbcdefg, in addition to power cords and batteries maybe light blubs or a cheap lamp? Our house was older with no overhead lights so we had to buy a bunch of Wal-Mart lamps just to see.

MixedBerryJam, what about a local kitchen/cabinet place and just having one built with a remnant top? I think that may be a better way to go so you get what you want.
I'm tired. I didn't sleep well.
Also, I started reading Normal People over the weekend and it's written sort of like a script, but without all of the quotes and it's definitely different than what I'm used it. Still a good book, I may re-watch the show after I finish.

I’d do a search for “custom furniture city” and see what pops up. I think if you want a stone (granite) top, you’ll need to do custom. I would assume anyone who builds custom furniture can build a wood base and set it up to put a granite slab on top.
I’m sure that won’t be cheap though.
I feel your pain. I want a really tiny coffee cart in my kitchen and haven’t been able to find anything that fits my requirements.
