Anyone got anything?
TWERK: DH's contract, which was originally for 6 months and due to end in November, just got extended for another 6 months. Yay!
DDOT: I invited one of our neighbours over for drinks and pizza and they said they can make it Thursday afternoon. In my mind, that meant 4 - 5 p.m. Somehow she thought the invitation was for lunch. We all WFH. We are doing it because I feel bad about rescheduling and DH and I can take an hour lunch break; but it's weird, right?
I have been in virtual training the last 2 days. It has made my day much brighter to get to do and hear about things in my normal job. Who would have thought hearing about meth and heroin would brighten my week? Weird times man.
That's great about the job traveltheworld! And yes, weird. Who plans a lunch date without specifying that it's lunch? I would never think of that.
DDOT: I need a hostess gift for Saturday. We're spending the weekend at a beach house with beau's best friend and his wife. They're rich. This house is on Martha's Vineyard and comes with it's own hanger for the private plane they sometimes use to get to and from said beach house. What the hell do I bring for a thank you gift?! We'll obviously be bringing wine from the restaurant, but I want to get something else. Beau says don't bother bringing anything, but I can't show up empty-handed. It's just not in me.
DD is sponsoring her 1st grade teacher book for every kid event. For $10 scholastics will give a child a new book each month of school. Her 1st grade teacher started it last year and got enough sponsors to do her whole class last year. She gave a shout out again this year for sponsors and DD asked if she could sponsor since she will be missing out on being a big buddy to her class. Her teacher got enough sponsors for all of 1st grade and said she would personally deliver books each month while virtual! She also told DD she would add her to the list of volunteers to virtually read to the class. DD is beyond stoked!
traveltheworld, that's weird. twinmomma, wine is fine, especially if Beau says you don't need to bring anything.
TWERK: I'm getting an unanticipated bonus in the near term future. Depending on timing and how the markets perform today, it will be somewhere between good and really good. FX.
twinmomma I agree with k3am. If they have kids, you could always bring something for them to play with/do, but I don’t think anything is necessary. You can send them a handwritten thank you note after if you wanted.
While I’ve been working some since my baby was born, today is my first official full time day back from maternity leave (remotely). I’m sitting and waiting to present on a virtual board meeting. I have nearly 3,000 unread emails 😬 It’s mostly junk, since I still responded to any client emails and important emails while I was on leave.
When I came back from maternity leave, any email that anyone else was copied on, I marked as read. I figured if someone else had seen it, they'd responded to it. And if I needed to go back, I could still find it. I assume you had an OOO on, so anyone who sent you that email knew you were out and will (hopefully) give you some grace.

Office politics has invaded my much-loved job and I am very grrrr about it. I canceled my afternoon staff because I didn’t think I could manage even-keel today.
In other news, DD1 is sewing masks for her stuffies out of socks and it’s adorable.

twinmomma, my go-to house warming is tequila. But if you're already bringing wine, what about a fancy dessert? Either homemade or store bought? I'm with you, I can't go anywhere empty handed, even if someone tells me it's ok to not bring anything. Lately it's been Rice Krispie Treats since they're always a hit and quick and easy, but a little different clientele...lol
Since I've known Beau, he's talked about his Jeep Wrangler that he had built for drag racing and had been sitting in his brother's shop for 2 years waiting to have the engine rebuilt after it blew up. He did a couple of long days this week and finally got it rebuilt and assembled yesterday. Looks like we're going cruising this weekend to get break in miles on it. It's nice to see him so happy to have it done.
My anxiety is high trying to get everything ready for e-learning. Tomorrow we pick up chromebooks and textbooks from the school.
Once we got our iPad, it got worse. Trying to pull together logins, and get everything ready to set her up as much as possible and then.. I had done all I could. It was SUCH a relief. I sent her off and.. it just is. It went better than we thought and I’ve resigned myself to it.
I finally saw the gynecologist about my heavy periods and extreme fatigue. I have heavy periods even when I'm on the pill. I tried an IUD after DS2 was born, but I had it taken out because of some GI issues. My gyn is recommending either playing with birth control pills to reduce the number of periods per year or an endometrial ablation. I'm leaning towards the ablation since it is (hopefully) a one-time deal to get me to menopause. I'm done with babies and DH had a vasectomy a few years ago. There are a few tests that I have to get done to make sure there is nothing else going on. I did the endometrial biopsy today, which was not fun. I'm really nervous. Has anyone else had an ablation?
polecat8 - I had an ablation a few years ago. I also had very heavy periods. I couldn’t make it 2 blocks from the train station to my office without an issue, I’d be late for meetings because I couldn’t stand up in the ladies room.
Life changing. I was awake for the procedure and had it done in office. I’d say the pain was like early labor. I was crampy for the rest of the day and a little light-headed the next day. I did it on a Thursday afternoon and took Friday off. I was much better by Sat. The absolute worst part for me was the Dilaudid they gave me for pain. OMG so much puke.
My periods now are very light - like a panty liner for a couple of days. So worth it!
polecat8, me! It did not get rid of my periods entirely, but it did lessen them quite a bit. I had one very heavy day and several normal days. Now I have spotting and one regular day. A friend had it done and never had a period again. No such luck here.
I have only slept for 3-4 hours each night this week. I’m terribly exhausted. My anxiety about school is at an 11. Everything to do, the actual going back, the flu shot (both my concerns and just one more thing to deal with).
So I’m so tired and can’t seem to motivate myself to get anything done, and then I’m worried about everything I have to do so I can’t sleep.

This is just a vent because I need to get it out. I’m frustrated by distance learning. This will be a waste of a year. Ds is at a distance learning assistance after school care place and has been having technical difficulties but isn’t getting help or getting it fixed. He missed half of a test earlier this week. His headphones didn’t work for 2 days and he didn’t say anything. I’m sure he’s fidgeting around on the iPad during instruction and not paying attention but I can’t do anything about it. Who knows if he’s doing any work. He had a hard time focusing in live classes so I’m sure he’s even more unfocused now that he has more autonomy. I’m debating Signing him up for Kumon tutoring so he learns something this year. Distance learning does not work for my 8 year old. Ugh.
ETA. I’m not mad about it. I know everyone is doing the best they can and trying. It just sucks. None of us asked for this. I’m just really sad about it.
Alright, you're all making me feel better that just bringing some wine is fine. If I can find a fancy dessert when we go grocery shopping on the way, I'll grab that too. That's a good idea.
That's great about the job traveltheworld! And yes, weird. Who plans a lunch date without specifying that it's lunch? I would never think of that.

polecat8- I did ablation. I had super light periods for a long time. They are starting to get heavier. Like I actually need a pad for two days now. But compared to bleeding through a 12 hr overnight pad in a couple of hours for days at a time? I’ll take it.
I had to do it as out patient surgery bc my gyn wouldn’t do it without also doing tubal ligation. So I had both. Other than lots of puke from anesthesia, I had no issues. I took Aleve for the pain. Didn’t need anything stronger, which shocked my gyn.

DDOT: our lunch date turned into 3.5 hours of wine drinking and chatting. All good fun. But I still think that was a weird time for a meet up. The husband is a doctor, so I guess he works shift work, so day-time hang outs are normal?
TWERK: I am ready to murder my H. My update is that I haven’t yet. If you don’t hear from me for a few weeks, someone please delete all the evidence from this board!
Also TWERK: I got a haircut this week for the first time since before covid and I love my hair so much. I quit blow drying in April cause what’s the point and my stylist says my hair seems way healthier! Bye bye, crispy ends.
Update: I made it through 250 emails today. In addition to my meeting presentation and some other housekeeping stuff. It was pretty amazing and luxurious to just do work with no kids around or nursing a baby during my zoom. I am not thrilled about returning to the world of breast pumping, but at least it’s the last time (DH is getting snipped on Monday).
sandandsea I feel like the grass is always greener. Lately I have been wishing that we did one of the distance learning support programs, because then we wouldn’t have to run out midday to get the kids and feed them lunch and take them to another activity and then pick them up from there - since that’s pretty disruptive to our workdays. But the upside of the pod thing is that our kids are getting personal attention from a teacher. There are so many pros and cons to every model. And what would be best for my 3rd grade girl night not be best for my first grade boy, but it makes sense to keep them together.
Well, bonus number is still not decided yet. And the stock that it's based on has dropped $10/share, so womp womp. But still, free money that wasn't in the budget! I'm just hoping it happens today before the stock drops any more.
Update: Furniture is all set in the playroom/ schoolroom. I pick up supplies and chrome books this afternoon. All that we have left is tech stuff (DH).
Tomorrow I work. Then Sunday is finishing up for prep for e-learning. Monday school starts. I am off work to assist the nanny and then she is on her own. Friday’s I will be with them for my work from home day.
I want to know what campermom’s employer decided about working from home.
Oh we won’t know if educators will need to report in person until next week. 7 business days before we would need to physically report to work. Currently, the newly created virtual learning daycare centers are 275 a kid per week and I have 2 kids who are unaccounted for. My kindergartner has a secured spot at daycare.
My HR said I could use FFCRA but in order to be paid 100% I’d need to burn my upcoming 9 sick days and then I wouldn’t have sick leave ( Even for Covid or quarantine) I wouldn’t have paid leave until Sept 2021.
I can’t afford the pod rates or at home teacher rates or nanny rates or $3000 a month (they’ve increased) daycare virtual learning rates.
Today DH’s HR said he is not eligible for anything other than 80 hours of leave at 2/3 pay and he can’t supplement his leave since he is a federal employee.
So, my BEST case scenario is....they say we can work from home and I still have 2 kids who need me, alone. for virtual learning.
