We are on day 2. Today we logged them in and turned on all the tech. DH is a tech guy, so they have big monitors, keyboards and headphones. The headphones work really well- we can't hear the calls at all which is good because they are in the same room.
I am back to work today. Pray for my nanny (and me on Fridays).
We started a week ago yesterday. It’s going well with classes and school work so far with our pod (5 kids and a teacher in another family’s garage). But now that our county cases went down and we’re off the state watch list, the school plans to open in a hybrid 2-day-a-week format in a few weeks. While I want the kids to see their teachers and classmates and I feel safe sending them, this will likely totally throw off our pod. The school won’t accept requests to put kids together beyond siblings.
We start Thursday. 3 different and new schools and 3 different schedules. Yesterday I was checking a couple of things and we had some tech issues so I’m glad I was messing around with it yesterday because I was able to fix those things before Thursday. Still have to check one kid’s tech stuff and make sure everything is good to go.
Finally got the middle kid to agree on a place to do school to use that isn’t her bedroom, but she wants room divider screens to make it more private (DH is likely to throw a fit about that, but I’m just going to go buy them and not discuss it with him first because I need this to work and I cannot keep arguing with her about where she will do her school stuff).
This is going to go terribly, but it is what it is and we will make the best of it. At the moment we are only remote until 9/25, but I suspect it will be extended.
We start next Tuesday, hybrid. The district sent out our A/B group assignment last night and there was a technical glitch so everyone was told they were in group A. Then, correction emails came out which said you were in both groups. Cue, third email and apology. This was something relatively easy so I can't wait to see how virtual goes.
Teachers were told yesterday that they either need to video live feed for the virtual learners or video the lesson ahead of time for them to watch (which doubles their workload). Parents haven't been told any of this yet. Did I mention that they start in one week!?
We registered for the Y care so hope we get a spot.
sdlaura , I told the nanny through December. So I guess even if school goes back we will keep them online and pay her through then. I can't imagine with all the quarantine requirements in Illinois, that it magically gets better in October. But I guess you never know what is going to happen with this pandemic. The school is very hesitant to give a date for in person even with my child with an IEP where IEP's are supposed to take precedence.

DS's first day is Wednesday, but I guess the first three days are just the teacher meeting with students one on one so there won't be any learning. Next week he'll be with me and I'll send him to daycare for his online learning.

We started 2 weeks ago, fully remote and he’s at a DL support site. It’s mediocre at best. I’m concerned it’s going to be a waste of a year. They have technical issues at least once a day and he is getting away with doing the minimum Which does him no favors. We are looking into a private tutor to supplement school which is not what I want or he wants but we are that concerned.
We start 100% online on Sept 14th. I gave a shout out to a couple of her old teachers saying DD was free if they wanted to do some dummy runs to try and work out the bugs before we start. Teachers report back virtually on Aug 31st.
Kids start virtual Sept 8. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know if I’m going to keep working or take leave. I dk if I will have my middle one in daycare. I dk if I’ll keep my kids out of daycare and take leave, even if they don’t mandate us to work from the building instead of home.

We are supposed to start in person next Thursday, the teachers' union is fighting to push the date back, so we'll see how it goes. Parents had the option to elect on-line, so it'll be interesting to see how many did. So far the communication from the school hasn't been great.
We were supposed to start on the 1st, but are now starting on the 8th. Who knows, we have old device drop off and new device pick up for DS on Friday and then DD next week. Class assignments are supposed to come out today?
waverly yeah I’ve already resigned myself to the cost of our pod/teacher, so my preference is just to keep our pod teacher for the same number of hours even if we go back a day or two per week. Hopefully the other parents agree. If we go with county health guidelines of no more than 10 kids per group, they could end up in person only one day a week. Or maybe they send special needs or younger kids more. No idea yet.
We've been back to school for two weeks. DD is in a distance learning support program. She has logged in daily without any major issues, which from what I've heard, is rare in our district.
We have.. no idea what's going on beyond that. Our teacher doesn't convey to parents what the students are expected to work on and turn in, either via email or our LMS. Our neighbor is a teacher, and we've seen her LMS set up for her students and it is.. very, very robust. Our kids have the same teacher, but her husband is handling most of the distance learning, but they don't have any better idea what our kids should be working on.
Our facilitator for DLS has also commented that she doesn't know what DD is supposed to be working on and that other teachers have either sent a weekly list outlining what the children were supposed to have worked on (when sent end of week) or be working on (when sent beginning of the week) or it's clearly outlined in our LMS.
I emailed the teacher at the end of the first week and haven't heard back. DH emailed her last week and hasn't heard back. Before the school year started, when we were finding out who got who as a teacher, most people we talked to that had a student in her class said that she is a GREAT teacher.. but very disorganized. Unfortunately in the current circumstances, organization is key, so I'm hoping she is able to adapt and pull it together.
I am also concerned this is going to be a waste of a year. Our district is not likely to go back anytime soon. I have zero anticipation of this being a back in the classroom in 6 weeks type thing. I think if we're back in the classroom for next semester, it will be a miracle.
Everyone keeps talking about how the kids are "all in the same boat" and not to stress, but we're not in the same boat. I heard a great analogy for it (I googled for it to get it right..).. We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat. Your ship can be shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa.
Our boat does not involve a parent that can provide detailed oversight, a nanny, a pod, or a credentialed teacher providing assistance. Ours does involve a DLS, so we're not shipwrecked, but I definitely feel like we're probably going to be lost at sea somewhere.
DD and DS1 start on Sept 8. They are hybrid - Tu/Th in school, the other days are remote. The school district has sent out health guidelines, welcome back videos on drop-off/pick up procedures and class structure, and supply lists. We're just waiting on homeroom assignments.
DS2 is starting preschool on Sept 14. We won't get any more info until Sept 8.
We are supposed to start tomorrow virtually. DD has already cried and then arranged her room to be a nice backdrop for the camera. 1. We just got our schedules Sunday night and they are crying from the rooftop no changes.
2. DS is missing an art class that he needs to graduate, which he signed up for. DD is missing an Ag class that she needs for club.
3. He has absolutely no class scheduled for his 3rd block second semester.
4. DD is scheduled for a dance class that she has never heard of and does not need.
5. DD's geometry teacher sent out instructions for the online class at 8:10 tomorrow. One of the instructions was that you must wear clothes.
I'm sorry for those going through rough e-learning experiences. Hopefully if they have a lost year, they will be able to make it up. DS had a lost year during in-person school for writing, so it does happen in person as well. The teacher literally came to his IEP and said she doesn't care about writing.

We are on week 3. It’s going okay but she is really having to hustle to keep up. We applied and got into a existing asynchronous program and they’ve shown no quarter on deadlines. Despite the platform going down for hours at a time mid-morning twice this week and also last. This afternoon I got an email from the art teacher saying to allow 3-5 hours FOR THIRD GRADE ART a week. I had been told an hour a week for electives. I’m pretty livid about that, actually.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
DD2 goes for 3 hours next Wednesday, and DD1 goes for 3 hours in Thursday. They bring in supplies, see their spaces, see their teachers (who have already had zoom call with them).
They both go back full time on the 8th. My prediction is that we are fully remote by October 1st.
Had some issues logging on to this morning. However, so did everyone else. Geometry is finished for the day, so DD is excited. That was the one she was nervous about, probably because it was first. DS is downstairs on his Zoom class, but college has been going for a week.
Day 1 is going better than expected. But omg I already threatened to send DS back to kindergarten because he keeps “quitting”. He is supposed to be writing his numbers to 100. He’s been doing it for almost 2 hours. With breaks to take a walk, get water, go to the bathroom, throw himself on his bed and pout, etc.
