Does anyone have any recommendations for lighter weight masks for sports? DD2 has a lightweight cotton gaiter, but she doesn’t seem to like it. She’s been wearing a paper mask and broke it today, so she put on a reusable mask. I had the same brand on while working out and OMG it was awful. So hot, really hard to breathe. Fine if sitting at a desk, awful on the soccer field. DD1 starts boxing this weekend, so she will need a good one too.
I know Under Armour is making them, but they’re $30 and some of the reviews are pretty awful.
I’m not sure about sports mask, but my daughter and I love the Bailey Blue masks for outdoors. They’re cotton, but totally breathable. She did a whole week of outdoor zoo camp (in SC) this summer and never complained about the mask.
mae0111, DD and the girls at the gym use gaitor style masks. The masks the office lady from the gym made them have a piece of metal to bed around their noses to help keep it up. DD loves it but the don't hold up well. The lady who made them is trying to reengineer them to hold up better.
I ordered DD some gaitor style masks from SAFishing and the kid ones are huge. I'm desperately trying to shrink them in the dryer. Some parents have cut ear holes into the gaitor style masks they have ordered to make them stay up better. The biggest complaint seems to be that their neck gets overheated.

I just got the Made to Move masks from Athleta. They have a wire across the top and down the middle, so they don’t get sucked into your mouth when talking or breathing hard. I plan to wear them to Orange Theory when I start back in September. They seem big, but have ear adjusters and come with a clip, so you don’t have to wear behind your ears.
186momx, just a heads up, but the gaitor style masks may not be very effective. My work does not allow them to be worn to the point I had to sign a policy prohibiting them (as part of a larger covid policy). I haven't done any research as to why, but just thought you may want to know.

Because the fleece ones actually cause more particles to spread further than wearing no mask at all.

It's not just fleece though, althought I did read that too. I actually just googled after posting that. People like the gaitors because they're convenient and easier to breath in, and tend to be made of thinner (more comfortable) material, and typically not the recommended 2-3 layers, so it doesn't stop anything.
k3am, the ones the gym made for the girls are made out of thicker t-shirt material. All the gaitor studies came out 3 weeks after we were told we had to wear masks while practicing. The coaches wear regular masks and so far it is seems to be working out. DD only wears them to practice in as she doesn't like the feel of them for normal wear. The ones I ordered from SAFishing are super thin so not mask appropriate at all.

I paid big bucks for one from Carbon38 which has layers but is still breathable. Zazzle ones don't have layers, which is one reason why my kid enjoys wearing them. They are breathable for sure but do have a tightly woven cloth.
