I’m a size 26/28 or 4x in most things. I’m needing a warm down coat with hood for the winter. The one I have now is five years old and has seen better days. I used to find my coats at department stores and now all ours have closed. I went to Lane Bryant yesterday but they said they may not get any until after Thanksgiving. I do prefer being able to try them on in person, but it is slim pickings and I may have to go online.
Any suggestions for ones you have bought that fit well and held up well?
I’ve had good luck with Macy’s plus selection in stores in previous years. Columbia goes to 3x and I think runs a big large, so that might be worth checking out. Some of their coats are on Amazon too, so returns are easier. And Target has decent light- and mid-weight jackets. Online might have some heavier jackets.
I bought mine at JC Penney’s around this time last year. It wasn’t down but I bought a ‘snow’ coat and also a lighter active jacket that I wore all last winter. I got them for really good prices too.
Thanks. I forgot about Old Navy. I always like places where, if I have to order online, I can at least return in person and not ship it back.
FWIW, returns are really easy with ON/Gap/Banana/Athleta.
They’re free and you can just print the label online. It’s through USPS so I just plop it in my mailbox. The bags they ship in reseal for returns do you don’t even need tape. I love ordering from them for this reason. It couldn’t be easier.
Before ordering these, I went to the Macy’s Backstage store near my house to see if I could find one. They had a decent coat selection, although plus size was in shorter supply. I wound up buying a hooded, quilted HFX jacket for $50 that should be good for fall, but I ordered those other two coats to try on since I’ll need something for colder winter days.
ETA: they arrived and I tried them on. I got a 2X for each. I like them both but the Michael Kors is a bit heavier/warmer and looks a little better, so I’ll keep that and return the Marilyn & Me coat. Debated keeping them both but I don’t need two. Downside to the MK is that the zipper is sticky, but otherwise it’s comfortable and looks flattering and seems warm.
