Ds1 doesn’t have school today and will be chilling at home today. He is enjoying the break. DS2 has preK still so we aren’t telling him ds1 is out. I also bought the scooters for Christmas yesterday just to be safe.
DD has today off. I do not so it is a normal day at the office for DD. She is researching the Golden Bamboo Lemur today for one of the extra projects she got.
Dear 3rd Grade Teacher from last year I love you and wish we had you again this year. Thanks for emailing DD and giving her extra projects to help her not be bored. Missing you
Dear COVID You are starting to get real here. Both businesses beside us are closed. Insurance place has an active COVID case and the eye glass place was exposed. Feeling a little ghost town like on my block
Thanks for being okay with going to daycare today. Dad has to work. I should be working. But since our county is likely to be going back to red soon and I’m exhausted.. I’m getting a facial while I still can. This is the best thing for all of us.
I know you hate when you’re grounded. I, too, hate when you’re grounded. If you stop lying and sneaking around and tantruming when you don’t get your way, I will not have to ground you.
Grounding does work. It bothers you. You hate it. Stop screaming that it doesn’t work, and the next time you want to lie or sneak around or throw a tantrum, remember how much you hate this time stuck in the house with no friends and no electronics.
Dear Work, I am so very tired, please stop asking me to do more. I cannot work 60 hour weeks for a sustained amount of time in a pandemic. Signed, so very tired but trying to get tenure
Dear Kids, Thank you for liking your new school. Signed, thank you for being open
Dear Weather, Please don't snow. Signed, not ready for this
186momx, my like was for the great teacher, not the covid impacts.
k3am don’t feel guilty- good for you. My older kids are still at their distance learning YMCA program today, even though school is closed and the little boys are off. I did offer to pay for skateboarding day camp instead, and they picked the existing program since that program said they’d do fun stuff today.
FWIW, our county went back to purple yesterday and no one here seems to care much. We weren’t going to indoor restaurants, gyms, or church services anyway. The only major downside is it means we probably won’t get back to any more school soon. I’m kind of annoyed that my firm said no one can go into our office here anymore, even though our Boston area office is still open despite higher cases per capita. Not that I want to go in anyway - I just want there to be uniform guidelines.
sdlaura we are orange and won’t be back to school this school year (despite the lip service from the district.) we may end up in red soon and they won’t reopen in red. Despite the frigging state and county saying we can open in red. (I am a broken record here.)
The vaccine news is promising at least. I am very WTF about the timing though. I absolutely believe it was delayed because of the election. I’m not a Trump fan, but I think I’ve reached the point of being a conspiracy theorist.
Don't feel guilty. The kids have the rest oft he week off, I originally booked time off to spend more time with them, but just told out nanny to come in for half a day both tomorrow and Friday so that I can get some alone time.
And I totally agree with you on the vaccine announcement timing. My first thought was "yay vaccine!", and my second one was "oh great, now all the nutty Trump supporters will have a legitimate reason to think that there's a big conspiracy!"

k3am , I am so pissed that it came the monday after Biden's acceptance speech. I don't know what, if anything, is behind that, but the optics are so stupidly poor given what Trumpers have been saying. I don't believe Biden has any control over pfizer but who knows what they were thinking. My guess is they weren't thinking anything and they just suck. Although........
Dear Governor, Can we get our act together and start acknowledging that case numbers are rising and we're no longer the golden child for states that are doing ok with COVID? Our totally rural area of north is being slammed with cases and they don't have the resources to be able to handle that! Enough of this "personal responsibility, towns can choose how to handle it" BS. Grow a pair and make a plan. If my kids end up remote because you can't bear to make a call, I'll be pissed. Signed, Angry constituent
DD3 has been in daycare since May. She's little so she doesn't wear a mask in her room but the teachers are all required to wear masks. She complained of a headache last night, then the fever hit and she developed a cough. I just talked to her ped's office and they aren't seeing covid patients since we're all sorts of deep red. 1/3 positivity rates. They also won't test under 5 at the community sites. They said we could try urgent care but they may not test under 5 either and you run the risk of bringing her in with all the covid patients so if she doesn't have it now...Her recommendation from the county health is presume positive since she has three symptoms and quarantine for 10 days. Sooo would you risk going into urgent care where she may or may not get tested or just presume she's positive and quarantine? The only positive for taking her in I can see is piece of mind but I'm not sure it outweighs the other risks.
Did I mention outbreaks are insane here? Like we have less than 100 ICU beds open in the entire state. And our legislature still hasn't done anything since April, just overturned the Gov's mandate. I'm all kinds of ragey.
Pfizer gives an epic shitload of money to Republicans, including Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, my senators (gag). They certainly weren’t trying to help the guy who says he will lift the rules against the government negotiating drug prices, which will seriously hurt their bottom line.
A lot of Pfizer’s testing was done in our area. Their biggest issue was getting an appropriate sampling of volunteers to test. They had plenty of white women. They had serious problems with getting men and African Americans and Latinos of both genders to volunteer, and they were on the news begging people to come sign up multiple times. It caused a delay of a few weeks. The results likely would have been ready right before the election, except 1) they found one dose didn’t work so had to do a second dose 14 days after the first, and 2) they didn’t have representative volunteers in time. From the time they got volunteers and established the 2 dose protocol, the calendar is set by FDA regulations. Also, Pfizer refused to be part of Operation Warp Speed, so they also had to answer questions about how to deliver the vaccine to people.
If Pfizer wanted credit to go to Biden, they would have waited to let his FDA approve it. Yeah, the timing was unfortunate, but it’s not a conspiracy against Trump.

mommyatty, that's good information. I didn't figure there was an attempt to help Biden, but they couldn't have had worse timing if the TRIED.
Oooooh reverse conspiracy.....they wanted to give fuel to the narrative that the virus would disappear after Nov. 4 so they released it the day after Biden's acceptance speech. Yeah I know it's not true. Unless......
Signed, Doing the work of 4 people due to quarantines.
After the FBI made all sorts of announcements prior to the 2016 election, I thought maybe people (or at least the FBI) would think hey maybe we shouldn't make announcements right before an election. Well now they are getting crap for making an announcement after an election. Ha- can't win either way, I guess.
mellym, I think that you are in WI? Hyvee is doing testing, and if you type in Hyvee community testing it will link to a bunch of sites where you can make appointments down to three years of age, some of which are at Hyvee and some of which are not (I'm not sure how old your DD is). Things are epically blowing up here. I saw clips from the Governor's address, where we are running out of beds and the State Fairgrounds have been activated and are receiving patients. But they can only take patients that aren't super sick at the Fairgrounds and are on the stable side from what I could tell.

Just kidding, truly.
Although.....
Ha
This. It’s just really shitty optics. Everyone knew that Trump would have an issue with it, so why give him the ammo?

The CEO did sell a bunch of shares right after the announcement. TBF he was probably just taking advantage of the jump in price that happened after the announcement. It was public so that should be ok I would think.
