I know that Samsung is a no go. We have it narrowed down to two different ones at two different store. We're looking at a Frigidaire at Lowe's and a Whirlpool at Costco. Is one brand better than the other? They both have very similar features, both right around the same price point. We can pick up the Lowe's one immediately, but the Costco one won't be delivered for 1-2 weeks. We are not in immediate need, so I'm not sure how much that matters. Any opinions on Whirlpool vs Frigidaire?
I have had a Frigidare for 20 years this year. All of my other appliances are Whirlpool (about 13 yrs old). I like both brands - but dont have Whirlpool experience with the fridge.
We have a Whirlpool that we bought in 2009 when we built our house. We had to replace one part in 2013ish (I know it was before DS was born in 2014) and have had no trouble ever since. We have a pretty basic French for model, no ice/water in door and would 100% buy again.
This was the first nice fridge I've ever purchased on my own though so I don't have much to compare it to. The fridge that came with my house when we bought it was Amana or something and it sucked.
When we redid our kitchen a couple of years ago, the Frigidaire pro line was highly recommended. So we went with that for all of our appliances, including the fridge. It's a stainless French door bottom freezer. I do not have a water maker (cannot stand them ha) so I can't say how that works, but so far we have been incredibly happy.
I do have a whirlpool stand up freezer in my basement and it's hard to get the door to stay closed. That may be user error (it always seems to pop back open after a child uses the freezer) so I'm n really ready to blame whirlpool but thought I'd mention it.
We have a Whirlpool Gold model that we've been happy with for the last 10 years. The ice maker quit working recently, but for being 10 years old, I'm not even mad.
We have a Frigidaire in a rental property, and the ice maker stopped working at <2 years. The repair person told me not to bother fixing it, because they're all fragile, so I've forgiven that, but now - at 12 years old - the freezer isn't working. I'm so bummed.
I've only owned a couple fridges in my lifetime, so I don't know that this will turn me off Frigidaire forever. If it can't be fixed, I will buy whatever is available at the scratch and dent warehouse I like. I had no idea these two were the same company.
ETA: And I didn't know it, because it's not true. lol

I don’t think they’re the same company. Frigidaire is owned by Electrolux, not Whirlpool.

You're right- appliance manufacturing is complicated (these two are separate parent companies, though)!

I was shopping for a fridge recently because my LG's compressor went out, but then I figured out that part is still under warranty. Also, if anyone has a LG french door, 2014 or newer, check to see if it is part of a recent lawsuit. I was surprised to find that there was a fairly generous settlement on the model that was 6 months younger than mine.
I have the consumer reports on fridges. What style (french door, side by side, top freezer, ect.) and width for each model? I can tell you what it says. Wirlpool wins on the top freezer 31"+ or <28", Frigidaire wins on 29-30" for example.
I use a local appliance guy to purchase all my stuff because I really hate going to Lowes and comparing things. That being said, he will ONLY bring me Frigidaire or Whirlpool. My Frigidaire refrigerator is 12 years old now and still going great.
We have our whirlpool for over ten years now. The ice maker broke years ago but it still produces ice we just have to open the door to get to it. We could get it fixed but just never did. There is also a broken shelf caused by my clumsy self but still also useable. But it's a great fridge and has held up well. My grandmother, may she rest in peace, always believed that Whirlpool made a the best fridge.
They're the same company. Buy the one you can get. Our main one is a Whirlpool Gold, our secondary fridge is a Maytag (also same company).
I think you’re thinking of kitchen aid. That’s the same as whirlpool. The appliance repair guy I called when our fridge broke (could not be fixed so had to get new) said in his lifetime of fridge repairing he recommended kitchen aid/whirlpool/Maytag as best fridges. Amana is also same brand but sells smaller things - like apt fridges and dorm fridges.
I felt like if anyone would know about longevity of fridges it was him!
We have all Whirlpool kitchen appliances and they've been going strong for almost 11 years now and zero issues. Our washer and dryer are Frigidaire and they are also almost 11 yrs old and no problems. Based off my experience, both brands are good.

Whirlpool has SO MANY subsidiary brands, it's stored in my brain as they're "everyone but...." and Fridgedaire gets left out of the "but" for some reason (LOL- maybe Jenn-air is the trip up?). It's even more complicated when you get into things like A/C units and small appliances and store branding.
It's so hard to get appliances right now, that it's tough to be too choosy, anyway. It took my dad 4 months to get a very, very basic fridge.
I think both sound fine. I would go with the Lowe's one, assuming both are totally equal in your mind, b/c of the faster delivery. Some people are having delays with Costco deliveries lately (but some are going just fine, so who knows).

This is what we had at our last home, but it was 19 years old and worked great.
On a side note - if it has an alarm bell for leaving the door open too long make sure it also has an off switch or is a alarm you can live with. Most annoying refrigerator ever did not have an off button for the alarm and was extremely loud and annoying. We were so happy when that fridge died. Our new one has a perfectly lovely chime and can be turned off/on easily.

We have GE in our current home, and just had Frigidare installed in the kitchen of our new home.
We used the Consumer Reports website to run in-stock or incoming (to warehouse) models against ratings. We haven't used the appliances yet, but they look nice.

Our local appliance people only sell GE. LOL.
OP-We just bought a GE stove and a fridge is up next, so we were going to do the GE just because we had a good experience with the local people. However, the fridge we want is out of stock until March. I would get whatever you can get sooner if you need it now. Several appliance places have told us 4-6 weeks at least because they are struggling getting what they need in stock. We have been very specific about what we want though. Another local place recommended GE or Whirlpool.
We had a Whirlpool and HATED IT, had problems with it (due to the design of the ice maker) and almost rejoiced when it died (right at 7 years). Then we bought a Samsung we’ve been very happy with.
