It's very sad. I don't think she was every fully the leader, in some ways, and that the military/nationalists just had too strong a hold (financially and the Rohingya genocide).
Myanmar is sad and terrifying, especially in light of how close we got less than a month ago to a coup.
I don’t think I’ve ever fully thought about or understood how the citizens of a country feel during a coup until recently. Like, the news sites report on the angry mob and military response, but there are so many people sitting at home checking the news and feeling helpless and terrified for the future of their country. It used to seem like it could never happen here and now we know it can. Then you have McConnell making statements against a coup in Myanmar when he has done nothing but undermine American democracy.

New co-lead announced in Trump's impeachment defense: Bruce Castor. He was the District Attorney in Montgomery County, PA, who not only declined to prosecute Bill Cosby, but also went on to fight against Cosby's prosecution by later D.A. Kevin Steele.

“ House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has delivered an ultimatum to McCarthy: Either Republicans move on their own to strip Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee assignments within 72 hours, or Democrats will bring the issue to the House floor.”

Did we talk about Joe Manchin? He's pissed VP Harris gave an interview to a local TV station to promote the COVID relief package & he wasn't consulted.... WTF? does she owe him a call??? Isn't he assumed to be on her team? Why does reaching out to him help with bipartisanship?
Manchin, a conservative Democrat who will be a key vote in the passage of a COVID-19 relief package, expressed his dismay over Harris’ interview in an interview with WSAZ in West Virginia, the same station that the VP’s interview aired on.
Manchin suggested that the Biden administration did not alert him ahead of time, and he said that Harris’ interview goes against the President’s calls for bipartisanship.
“I saw it. I couldn’t believe it. No one called me,” Manchin said in response to Harris’ interview. “We’re going to try to find a bipartisan pathway forward. I think we need to, but we need to work together. That’s not a way of working together, what was done.”

When I said this Congress is going to be the Joe Manchin Show I was not joking. He knows it, too.

Jim Justice, a complete Trumper who ran as a dem and then changed to republican (he's terrible just know that) has been giving interviews that support an extensive stimulus package. Up is down, down is up. I am sure there are some nuances I am missing, but I enjoyed this tweet.
“Campaigning for re-election, Mr. Trump spent the summer blaming rioting and violence on Democratic governors and mayors and warning about a “left-wing cultural revolution.”
Armed far-right militia groups started appearing at racial justice protests and demonstrations about the outcome of the election. Extremists groups like the Proud Boys marched in Washington in December, clashing with anti-Trump protesters in altercations that included stabbings.
The Homeland Security Department’s intelligence branch issued an assessment on Dec. 30 highlighting the potential for white supremacists to carry out “mass casualty” attacks, according to a copy obtained by The New York Times.
But there was no specific mention of armed groups targeting the Capitol, despite plenty of indicators online. The acting chief of the Capitol Police, Yogananda D. Pittman, later said that the department knew militias and white supremacists would be coming and “that there was a strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target.””
This has me really shaken up. My people come from Thailand and the history of coups and oppression of the people who speak out in the region is devastating. Piggybacked with the Insurrection of the Capitol building and my family has a lot of anxiety.

“Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality,” McConnell said in a statement first shared with The Hill. “This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”
McConnell didn't mention Greene by name in his three-sentence statement, but his rare, scathing remarks about a freshman GOP lawmaker from the other chamber suggests he recognizes the potential damage her violent rhetoric and bizarre conspiracy theories could inflict on congressional Republicans as they try to take back both the House and Senate in next year’s midterms.
