Are any of y’all’s districts considering getting rude of their mask mandate? Because my district where Eric and I teacher and J attends is actually toying with the idea of getting rid of it. I am just so freaking pissed.
Ours is saying they are sticking the TEA guidelines and the CDC. Sure they are discussing it but so far they know it really has helped limit the cases of covid they did have. We are sticking with virtual for the rest of the year though.
Not a Texan anymore, but the district I taught with in El Paso issued a statement almost immediately that it will continue to require masks, and my BFF's kids' schools in Corpus Christi (one public one private) also both sent out emails yesterday in support of continuing mandatory masking through the end of the school year.

Mike Morath of TEA said he was leaving it up to the local districts. That man has no moral fiber. He can come out with a hard stance on having to still take STAAR but for anything health and safety related it’s freaking crickets.
Oh mine is the only major district in the Houston area that has yet to say they are continuing with masking and distancing. It is HIGH DRAMA around here. I have emailed so many people, we are getting reporters reaching out for comment. I am super stressed.

Yeah he is spineless ass. I do hope our district will go with the CDC recommendation. We still have 500-700 new cases a day county wide. No need to put the teachers at risk right now especially since we can't get vaccines on a regular yet.
We just had a PTA meeting and this was a major topic of discussion. Our district will be keeping all our Covid protocols in place, including masking, abc our principal clearly stated that unmasked students will be refused entry.
The last communication I received was shortly after Abbott’s announcement, stating they were waiting on guidance from TEA. I’ve emailed the superintendent and the entire school board; the district has been reasonable up to this point regarding precautions so I’m hopeful the mandate will remain for the remainder of the year.
ETA: I’ve received responses from half of the school board members so far, including three before I went to bed last night. I was not expecting that, considering the size of our district. They will be keeping masks for now.
Ours is sticking with CDC recommendations, thank Goodness. We are letting DS go back to in person school the last nine weeks and I was so worried they wouldn't require masks and he would have to continue remote. He is so looking forward to going back (my dd is not going back).
I’m so glad ours announced today they are continuing with masks. Overwhelming support for it with a few loud mouthed idiots chiming in.
I assume if they got rid of masks if they had a positive case in a class the entire class would have to quarantine, not just those identified as close contacts. Would these maskholes like the increased chance their kids would have to move to virtual for weeks?
Ours is following the CDC and American Pediatrics. Looks like teachers and daycare folks will also be included in 1b.
When the governor made his announcement, many I know, including conservatives, were aghast.
Right. The loud maskholes were happy with Abbott's announcement but overall I don't think it went the way he wanted. Most people I know think masks should continue in schools through the school year and all small business owners are pissed that they are now in this really bad position. Also the power grid is still being talked about so he didn't succeed with that either. Idiot.

I think all the big districts in our area are keeping it. I actually haven't heard of any that are not.
No one was really asking for this. I mean, I know some people are like FREEDOM!!!! But the people he's claiming to help - like small businesses or just any businesses - are really more saying... "Oh No. Just what I needed a literal fight with my customers."
I'm in a Houston suburb and ours sent out a survey to parents yesterday to get their "opinion" and will announce a decision next week. I'm so angry, they are so spineless. Follow the CDC and TEA guidelines!!
I'm in a DFW suburb and our school district is sticking with the masks and social distancing. I really appreciate this and makes me want to stay in this school district (I've been looking at moving to the adjacent district - not sure what they're doing).

Pretty sure my big district isn't. At best, they will keep it for a few weeks to allow time for teachers and staff to be vaccinated. Although, first appointments are a week out for many at this point, plus wait 4 weeks for the second dose, then a week or 2 for full protection. That puts us at the end of April, at the earliest.
MY DISTRICT SENT OUT A FUCKING PARENT SURVEY. They are crowdsourcing what to do about masks. I CANNOT with these people.
Good Lord. They can’t hold out for another 10 weeks?! What’s wrong with them. I assume in the fall there will be no masks in schools but I’m going to be so mad if any school district drops the mandate now.

Not a Tx parent, but do all Tx school districts currently have a mask mandate? I have a FB friend who teaches there, and when she reposts pics from her school’s FB page, there might be one mask among a group of 10-20, but most students and teachers are pictured maskless.

Every district basically got to decide for themselves. But it's up to the district to decide to enforce, which is the bigger issue.
David's school announced last night that they will continue as they have been until at least the end of the school year. I suspected this, they've gone above and beyond to keep everyone safe and I'm really happy with how they've handled everything, but had they changed anything we would have moved to remote because fuck that.
