Potentially dumb question: once I’m fully vaxxed, is it a dumb idea to go to the gym? They installed a new HVAC with the higher filters and UV process. We carry our own towels and they have more frequent cleanings. I can go on less busy times, distance and wear a mask. I’d probably be doing like the elliptical, not classes. They require “masks or face shields” and not just masks, which I don’t love.

If gyms in your are are open this is 100% up to your own comfort. I think at the point where everyone has access to vaccines and I’m fully vaccinated that I would be comfortable with this, however I don’t live in a region full of anti-vaxxers.
Has anyone else dealt with bad headaches for days afterward their second dose?
I am staying hydrated, eating normally, etc. but holy hell my head hurts so badly since Saturday (second dose was Friday afternoon). All other side effects have waned - the aches (muscle/joint), arm soreness, fever, etc. The headache is the gift that keeps on giving.

Gyms here are at 25%, masks required. I'm fully vaccinated and am often the only person walking or using an elliptical. I do go to classes but the facility is huge and classes are capped at 12 (4 in the small room which "normally" could hold 20; I never go in there; I only go to classes on the turf field) - Space is not an issue and I position myself so I'm generally 6-10' from the next participant. I'm very comfortable with it.
I think it'll be a long time until this isn't at least a somewhat unpopular opinion.

Yeah, I have no idea what my comfort level is anymore. Oregon has gone from being the one of the lowest case states, to the sharpest rise in cases. People locally are fairly pro-vax, but I’ve also noticed that the people engaging in borderline safe activities tend to overlap with the people not taking precautions overall. My gym is full of old people (one of the things I like about it in normal times) so at least they’ve had plenty of time to get vaccinated.

I feel like once you are fully vaxxed it's a game of what is most important to you. I thought about going back to the gym because I really miss it for weight training purposes but I don't need to yet. I built a mini home gym during the pandemic and it's working great. Going back to the gym is just not something I have to do yet. However, we have been out to eat. I missed it terribly. We try to go early but now that DH and I are fully vaccinated the risk is worth it to us. It wouldn't be to others.
I am concerned that the new CDC mask guidance will basically end adult mask wearing, and that fact will make it more complicated for families with unvaccinated children to be in public. Both because there will be plenty of non-vaccinated adults not masking (because they can), and also because kids are less likely to keep a mask on when they don't see anyone else doing it.

I have no proof that it is related, but I have had a headache since my second Pfizer dose a week ago. Nothing helps to make it go away.
Could the headaches be related to inflammation of the lymph node? Is there any neck pain? I only ask because my chiro will massage and release my lymph nodes when they are swollen.

I had the worst headache for prob 10 days after my first. Like it woke me up in the middle of the night bad. I haven't gotten my second yet, and I won't lie I'm a kinda nervous since I felt bad after the first one.
Yay and 🥴 at the same time. I bought a ticket to a backyard house show this weekend (one of my favorite artists). I have been joking that I am taking my antibodies to a party. But, I’d really be happier if everyone else masks up. Ugh... it’s outdoors, BYOeverything. So it should be fine. But... ahhhh! I’ll still mask!
Semi-related... All my music buddies are vaccinated but busy. “Who is busy these days?!” she screaming internally. (Two active duty and out of town, one has her kids, one can’t leave her dog, etc) Introvert me is questioning my sanity....
I have a mild lingering headache after the 2nd dose but I have had a headache the last week and think it's related to pollen and not such much the vaccine. I have been doubling my water and a occasional advil and it seems to calm down. I hoping it will end soon.

Maybe? I have headaches frequently, (tmj, neck issues, cluster headaches, etc.), but I had one most of last week that I couldn't figure out, and I did have my second dose last Monday.
It was a really bad headache that was really unusual in the way it hurt and where it hurt.
I fell down a Twitter rabbit hole of someone drilling down into a lingering question I’ve had: what ever happened with that mysterious vaping-related lung issue, which kinda presents like covid. If case you forgot about it, it died out 2020. And while they tested for known pathogens, it’s not clear if they ever sequenced for novel pathogens. I didn’t have the time today to read all the citations and such, but, the gist is in the tweet below. Am I a conspiracy theorists for wondering if this is a thing? It has crossed my mind before.
Which says: I have to share this.
please consider in light of all the unprecedented breakdowns & betrayal
Hypothesis:
EVALI vaping illnesses were mostly covid, caused by cryptic transmission of a less effective ancestral variant of sarscov2 pmj.bmj.com/content/96/1141/686.long…

Me too. I got vaccinated the day I became eligible, which means I still have 4 weeks left before it's safe for me to be around unmasked strangers (sure, it's safe for them if they are vaccinated, but I don't get to know whether they are vaccinated or not when they won't give me enough space on the sidewalk).
@@@@@ But I'll be dealing with this for ages since I have a kid under 12. It's hard enough to keep her wearing a mask now when half the other people don't. It will be a lot harder when the only people left wearing masks are her father and I. We will, of course, wear them as long as she needs to in order to set a good example. Actually, DH will probably wear one for life because he's found it really helps with his allergies.

’ancestral variant’? Wow. That’s a pretty big claim. The link didn’t work for me so I couldn’t see the supporting info.

rubytue, it's an interesting thought, but that first citation that is specific to the vaping lung issues makes me think no.
The paper points out the contradiction that while the vaping cases were defined based on use of vapes within 1-3 months before the onset of symptoms, "The pattern of cases (steep increase and steep decline within 7 weeks) is probably more characteristic of acute poisoning rather than insidious toxicity, which is against the presumed 1–3 months latency." IMO that's also a strike against it being a virus.
The typical patient was a white, young man between 18 and 24 years of age who vaped multiple products. They only confirmed Vitamin E exposure in half the cases, but IMO that's a pretty high bar for a market where I highly doubt that most people stick solidly to one brand of vape juice and always know the manufacturer and that it came from a legit source.
The case distribution also makes me think that whatever actually happened there, that it was more likely to be a bad batch with localized US distribution, even if the specific bad stuff wasn't Vitamin E.
"To the best knowledge of the authors, there have been only nine EVALI cases reported outside the USA/Canada. To date, three cases have been reported in Brazil (allegedly all used vape juices from the USA), one case from Argentina and one from Ecuador. There have been three cases in Asia: two from Thailand and one from Israel. One Thai and the Israeli patients allegedly sourced their cannabinoid vapes from the USA. There has been only one case reported from Europe, with a vape fluid ordered from the USA. There have been no reports from Russia, where the vape market is similar to the USA in size and exposure although with less stringent control. There have been no cases reported from Australia and Africa."

Are you still a member? Can you try it to check it out? If you can, I would. If you’d have to commit to reactivating a membership, I am less sure.
In my area, I’d be OK with it because mask compliance is generally high, vaccine resistance is low (though our rollout sucked and may are still waiting to get vaxxed), and I feel OK about the direction we are going. In it I think this is dependent on your region and your risk tolerance.
I am happy that we can ditch masks outdoors, too. I do worry that it will give even unvaccinated people a pass to skip the mask outside, but realistically those people were probably often non-compliant anyway and also, outdoor transmission risk is low enough that even if nobody was masked OR vaccinated, we aren't talking about a high risk situation to begin with. Hopefully between lots of people being vaccinated and being outdoors, everyone will be safer.
Got my second dose of Pfizer today. Sunday H gets his second dose. Then we will wait two weeks and have a GTG with my mom, sister, and BIL who are all vaccinated. It makes me SO FREAKING HAPPY.
I read that CDC update and it definitely worried me because we have no way to know who is or isn't vaccinated and therefore is just going maskless because they are anti-mask. We'll continue to mask in public like we do. Only place we don't mask is on walks around the neighborhood because we can be spaced out.
sonrisa, litebright, thanks for poking holes. I feel like I just succumbed to the “make sense” and “I had questions” for of you tube indoctrination. I remember being so fascinated by it at the time... and then covid hit.
