I didn’t see one for this week, so guess I’ll make next weeks a day early 😂 This is apparently my follow ups from previous random vents.
We did go camping. I was at the tail end of my period (this is a followup from two weeks ago). We came home a day early bc it was in the low 50s and the wind was howling. Like the only pleasant place the sit was inside the tent, which is, not fun in the middle of the day. But I survived my first camping trip in 15+ years! I might even do it again. Maybe.
I’ve also complained about house hunting. We’ve made and lost 7 offers. Well, just before we left, we got word that a post-pandemic work will involve me only having to go in 1 day a week. Suddenly, all house hunting options shift. Last summer, we were considering buying land on the eastern shore of MD and slowly building a house there. Then we pivoted to a nice house in commenting distance. Now, I’m back to the dream of waterfront property over there. Internet access and a job for H are the stumbling blocks. Still, I am looking and found the perfect spot. 14 acres, a building site that is high and dry, and it already has a septic, well, and electric.

rubytue, is Starlink available for internet there? A friend just got it in PA and has been blown away by the speed. We signed up to get it at our place that doesn't get broadband.
Random period camping story-I unexpectedly started mine during our 1st camping trip in our camper. We were miles from anything and i had nothing to handle the situation. I was not happy. DH won permanent husband of the year status when he informed me that, while stocking the camper, he'd put some tampons in the bathroom for me. I would have married him all over again right then.

Oooo. I’ll look. We rented a place over there last summer that had satellite internet and it was... poor.
I have a problem. I really can’t stop thinking about this land. I’ve spent all day looking at house plans. 😬😬😬

We have satellite at the river and it sucks. Starlink has potential, though, even if it's Elon Musk...
Car Talk is trending on Twitter, so we are re-listening to some old favorite episodes. It's so hard (and sad) to believe that it's been 9 years since they ended the show.
(Also, OMG, what a reminder that we've been together for a long time--for the first decade of our marriage we listened to Car Talk religiously every weekend. It ended... almost a decade ago. Fuck, how did I blink and wind up married for almost 20 years?)

We saw an advance screening of In the Heights this weekend. It was so so so good! Now, I haven’t seen it on stage so I had little background knowledge, but the film was a delight.
My neighbors have been flying a T**** flag below their American flag since before the election, but it wasn’t super visible because the flagpole was short. Just realized tonight that the sound I keep hearing outside in the stormy weather is their flags snapping in the breeze on a taller flagpole!! It’s unfortunate because we can hear it from our bedroom. They also cut down a nearby tree with a fellow neighbor (unsure of his political leanings), which I think may have prompted the flagpole increase. Grrrr!
My BFF lives out of town but still has two properties here. The tenants at one place report problems but then don't respond in a timely manner so nothing happens. This is the first time I've been involved though. On April 30th, I let them know that I found scheduled a handyman to come fix a list of items. I didn't hear from them after this text. A week later I sent a text introducing them to the handyman. They didn't respond to that text either. I followed up today asking if they would be there or if I needed to be there. The husband responded saying that the wife was having dental surgery and that the earliest would be Monday/Tuesday. I'm guessing he meant that the earliest they would want workers or be available to have them at the house is next Mon/Tues. I don't know if it's an emergency appointment or not. I feel bad if it is but this guy is scheduling 2 weeks out. If it's not, and they didn't say anything 2 weeks ago, WTF?
I called the handyman today but he didn't call me back. If he doesn't have any flexibility in his schedule, the lease does allow for landlord/representative access with 24 hours notice. I don't want to be insensitive to a shitty situation if it is an emergency but the handyman has had his schedule set for a while and is really busy.
Am I an awful or rude person for saying "too bad, so sad, work is getting done Thursday"? Most of the work is outside so I'll ask them to start with the inside stuff so that they'll be done by the time they would get home. I might be extra sensitive to this because I've had such a shit year health-wise but at the same time I recognize that the work needs to get done. And I overthink things like a pro during normal days.

I’d be sure to tell them that it’s disrespectful to fly the American flag in inclement weather, and you’d appreciate it if they make sure to bring their flags in!

winecat, if it were an emergency, they would respond like it's an emergency. What you can say is that due to their non-response and inability to be around on certain days, the work person can only make it on XX day. As a tenant, if I wanted something done quickly, I made time and worked to get it done quickly. It's on them.

yeah, my response to that would be, "I will be there to supervise the handyman since you are not available, we will arrive on Thursday at x time. Thanks." And just double check that a text is sufficient notice as per the lease terms.
mrsukyankee- Good point. They didn't respond to a few texts from me and a couple from the handyman so I'm annoyed at the lack of response. And I don't want to try to reschedule at this point and to try to coordinate things again. The tenants don't seem motivated but it is stuff that needs to be done. My friend is getting chemo every other week so she's got her hands full. I have keys so I don't need them to be there.
so here's an actual random - we planted a veggie garden and now that things are actually in it and growing....I've come to the conclusion that I hate gardening. it's such an ongoing freaking hassle.
wawa- Good point. I will verify with my bff. And thank you. I don't want to be inconsiderate but at the same time, I let them know 10 days ago and they didn't respond at all. I just want to get things fixed and move on.

You guys, Hamilton tickets are back on sale today and I scored some for next April on my 40th birthday. I am so ridiculously excited. GO AWAY PANDEMIC.
I bought a back brace posture thing. It's essentially a backpack with no pack. I knew that with my less than perfect home office set up and laptop I'd been hunching over more. Then, to celebrate 2 weeks post second shot, I got a massage and the lovely therapist said that she'd done extra work on my upper back and shoulders because she'd noticed signs of kyphosis.
KYPHOSIS IS A FANCY NAME FOR "DOWAGER'S HUMP"!!!!!!
I know I am not a spring chicken, but ffs I am too damn young for a dowagers hump. The only dowager I embrace is Violet Crawley.

ohhh, you'll have to report back if you think it helps. my posture is SO AWFUL. and I know part of that is my home office, and some of it is my general giant lack of core strength - but I find myself hunched over my keyboard AAAAAAALLLLLLL DAAAAAY no matter how I adjust my desk setup.

It's always the Trumpers who completely ignore flag code.
Anyway, I'm currently in Maine and on a drive to a rural area today we saw a gun store that put up on their sign outside, "Racist Demoncrats won't give black people ID," so yeah, that kind of curtailed our property hunt in that area.

I’ve been going through photo albums to find pictures of my step dad (he passed ) and I found a hilarious picture of him with Caitlin Jenner in the 80s.
We just signed offer #8 in our house buying attempt. Yes, wawa, it’s probably the exact one your can guess. My dream street! Second time trying to buy on that street. Peekaboo view of the lake 🥰
